Sonic In SSBB Hoax?

Update: The magazine scan has been revealed and it is apparently a HOAX.

ICEknight @ The GHZ translated a Spanish interview Shakidna posted at Sonic Cult:

C. Doriga:We're almost running out of time, one last question: Are you going to include SEGA's mascot, Sonic The Hedgehog?

M. Sakurai:Well... That's a tough question, I'll tell you that Sonic's already in the game, but we're still waiting for a last confirmation from SEGA. Due to the proximity of the game's release, SEGA's deadline to submit their confirmation is the 26th this month, and in that date the official site will be updated about the inclusion o not of SEGA's mascot in the game. I'm personally crossing my fingers.

Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog

Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog was finally released onto DVD today by Shout as part of a 3 volume DVD set. If the first volume sells well then Shout will produce the other two. The DVD contains an interview with Milton Knight and a "How to Draw Sonic" video.

STC-O

Sonic the Comic Online may have lost to Penny Arcade at the Eagle Award's, but this hasn't slowed it down - out now is the new #242, with extras including randomly-loaded variant covers, posters, and a never-before-seen Sonic script for the original draft of #223!

The two-part adventures Out Of Psyche, Out Of Mind and In Cold Blood end this issue, as Sonic battles surreal mindswaps and a truly bizarre invasion while Tails attempts a rematch against the sadistic Bleed - a foe that easily hospitalised him in Part One. (For new readers, the previous issue is available in the Back Issues section) And as two strips end, a 4-part Knuckles story begins as Mobius is threatened by Vichama, the God of Death, an enigmatic foe that’s been haunting the edges of the comic for many issues and who is definately living up to his title...

Sonic the Comic Online in the running for the Eagle Awards

Due to public vote, fancomic Sonic the Comic Online is currently one of the five successful nominations for Favourite Web-Based Comic in this year's Eagle Awards. The winners for the awards will be chosen by a second public vote which ends on May 11th, and will be announced at the Bristol Comic Expo.

This is the first industry-wide award in Britain to have its nominations chosen by public vote since the Diamond National Comics Award 2004, where STC-O came second, losing out to the officially licensed The Matrix Comics.

The late Tom Frame, who lettered the original Sonic the Comic along with a celebrated run on 2000AD, has been nominated for Favourite Letterer and the Roll of Honour.

Ryan Drummond and gang to come back??

Hey gang! I recently visited Ryan Drummond's page, and looked under "Current Events" and saw in a recent article, that it's just may be_possible_that Sega will be dropping the 4Kids voice cast and returning the original!

Although he has posted this back in October of '06, and no updates as of yet. It's just a floating rumor, but Ryan himself IS checking it out for himself. So stay tuned...

Mario & Sonic Olympics Interviews

Gamedaily's interview with SEGA and Nintendo has slightly more info. The game is being developed by SEGA sports with supervision by Shigeru Miyamoto. They're considering ways to balance Sonic's speed in a race. And to those wondering about whether SEGA has gotten the message in the overall response to STH360, this quote is interesting:

BIZ: The Sonic franchise, especially with the recent games on PS3 and 360, has sort of seen a drop off in quality over the years. The games have not been received all that well and the franchise could use a jumpstart. Do you see this team up with Mario as a way of reinvigorating Sonic or refreshing the brand?

SJ: I think that's a very fair question. The Sonic games of late... the better games have been on the Nintendo platforms. Sonic Rush on the DS last year was a really good game. Sonic and the Secret Rings on the Wii is a great game as well. It's selling really strongly and is definitely one of the Wii platform favorites at the moment. So it feels like Sonic and the Sonic games have an affinity for the Nintendo platforms anyway, and we're happy to extend that. But you're right in that Sega has been looking to reinvigorate the Sonic franchise and inject some more quality into the games going forward. And we feel this is a great opportunity to work with Nintendo to do that.

Newsweek's interview says that Shigeru Miyamoto will have more involvement in this game than on the average Nintendo title.

Separately, is there a plan to revitalize Sonic on other platforms? Or is this a sign that it just makes more sense in the future to focus Sonic on Nintendo platforms where the product quality has been good and where there may be more audience affinity?

We are actually undergoing a fairly considerable refresh of Sonic as an intellectual property, as a character. Sonic on the Wii is probably the first product that's come to market that reflects that. We're not going to be bringing another game out on the other platforms for quite some time, because we feel that it is time to reinvent Sonic, to make Sonic contemporary again. At the same time, even the recent 360 and Playstation 3 games have sold extremely well. Sonic is still an extremely endearing character; there's still a lot of love for Sonic out there in consumerland.

No More Sonic Hedgehog : (

"An international committee of human geneticists recently voted to change the names of a few human genes because the current, sometimes flamboyant names—like Sonic hedgehog—are either offensive or embarrassing. Other genes earmarked for a name change include lunatic fringe, radical fringe, manic fringe, and Indian hedgehog. The vote was conducted by the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee, which establishes naming protocols for human genes..."

Wasn't it kind of cool how Sonic had a gene named after him? I mean, a gene in the actual human genome! Well, that's no more. Show's over, folks.

Las Vegas!": Ever seeking ways to raise capital to finance more evil robots, Dr. Eggman takes a "gamble" that the new Throndyke Casino, owned by Sonic's best friend Chris' parents, might provide the "jackpot" he's looking for. Will Sonic, Tails and his friends be able to stop Eggman or will there be a new "king" in town complete with his own deadly two-armed bandit?
