Again Sonic and Knuckles end up brawling! Sonic pretends to be beaten, but secretly follows Knuckles and Robotnik's escape. Sonic arrives just in time to see Robotnik absorb the Chaos Energy to become invincible!
Knuckles realizes that Robotnik lied to him, but is already prepared as he uses the concealed seventh Grey Emerald to regain control over the other emeralds!
Robotnik is sent back to Mobius with his new powers removed, and Sonic asks Knuckles to join the Freedom Fighters; but Knuckles chooses to stay on the Floating Island; to guard the emeralds and wait for his people to return.

It looks like curtains for the cornered fox, but a flash grenade suddenly blinds Nutzan, and he`s grabbed and pulled into an underground pipe system. His rescuer introduces herself as Sab – one of a group of freedom fighters known as The Flock, who used to live in the zone before it was industrialised, and now fight Robotnik from their underground base in The Runs. Recognising Tails as a zonerunner – one who travels the zones fighting Robotnik – she asks him to join them in their sabotage plan.
If she's that observant, you'd think that she'd noticed that he's yet to actually do anything but wish Sonic was around in this story, wouldn't you?
