Synopsis[]
Sonic, Belle and Motobud pursue a fleeing Metal Sonic who's holding Sage captive. The robot out speeds both of them and retreats into the darkness of the cave. It's too echoey to tell which way they went. Sonic suggests Belle link up with Metal Sonic, but like last time the device on Metal Sonic's head is keeping her out. Belle contemplates if letting go of Sage is the right idea because Sage is one of Dr. Eggman's creations and she might be a problem later down the line, reminiscing on how repairing Metal Sonic unintentionally led to this situation. Sonic reminds her there's an equal chance Sage won't be a problem and tells her both about how Metal helped save the world and how Sage brought out a side of Eggman Sonic's only ever seen in Mr. Tinker. He tells her it's not wrong to want to help people and that Sage is essentially Belle's sister, lampshading his initial attempt to repair Metal Sonic. Belle comes up with the idea of linking with Sage, who begins speaking through the puppet. She guides Motobud and Sonic to her location, learning Belle thinks of her as her sister and finds it 'interesting'. Belle quickly returns to control after.
The cloaked figure who had been watching them hears Motobud's engine and orders Metal Sonic to deal with them. They open the coffin and disappear into a darkness that emanates from it. Sonic and Metal Sonic clash while Belle shuts down the device Sage is trapped in. While Metal Sonic was occupied with his organic counterpart, Motobud pins down his foot with a claw. This allows Sonic to attack the device attached to Metal Sonic and enables Sage and Belle to reboot him. Metal Sonic tears off the device that previously had control over him. Immediately he attempts to attack Sonic before Sage orders him to stand down and pursue the kidnapper, with Sonic highlighting that they're teaming up and how much Metal 'loves' it. The cloaked figure destroyed the computers in the room before vanishing into a darkness that permeates the halls. Sonic and Metal blast off after their target, easily keeping pace. Cornered by the hedgehogs and the Eggman sisters, the figure slams their coffin onto the ground to shroud the arena in darkness. A large beast is formed from the darkness. Sonic and Metal start attacking the monster and ascend upwards. It attempts to create illusionary copies of the two, which are quickly destroyed. It then grabs them, but the duo charges up a spin dash and blast through the monster's eye. Sonic pulls out the mysterious figure in the process and unveils them. Sonic recognizes the face and is shocked. Before he can say who, it is, the monster creates a dark projectile in the shape of a star and throws it onto the ground.
Sonic, Metal Sonic, Belle, Motobud and Sage appear outside of the cave and in broad daylight. Sonic forgets what he was saying but shrugs it off as they came out victorious. Belle highlights that she tried getting away from this sort of scenario by leaving Emeraldville. Sage is ready to depart with Metal Sonic but removes Belle's trojan access in her programming. She claims Tails could reverse engineer it and put 'their' father at risk. Belle notes this and asks if Sage can leave the link between them open in the event Belle and Sage ever want to talk. Sage obliges with a small smile. She leaves, noting that the next time she and Sonic meet it will likely be an enemy. Sonic is looking forwards to when she challenges him. Sonic and Belle begin to prepare until the puppet remembers her wagon. It was tipped over, covered in snow and a wheel was broken off. The fact they were in the middle of nowhere meant Belle couldn't fix it on her own. Sonic tells her he called up Tails and Amy to help with the whole situation. Though they didn't make it in time to stop the mysterious figure, they were able to help fix Belle's wagon.
Sage relays to Dr. Eggman that no lasting damage was made to her or Metal Sonic. She made a log of what materials went missing and what they were used for. She says Belle was the only true loss, believing she will take precaution of any future remote control. Sage makes a profile of the assailant's nature and identity but doesn't have anything concrete. The only person who could fit their modus operandi has perished. Eggman cautiously looks around the room before asking if Sage is really fine, gently holding her hands. She assures him, with Orbot and Cubot cheekily snickering out of view of either of them.
