Haha I'm afraid I'm in the same boat as you there. One of my tutors saw how I used photoshop in class and suggested I try painter out so I've been spending many a hour in the college Mac suite trying to figure out how the hell it works.
I still can't get it =( I can't even get it to paint onto non watercolour/ink layers yet.
Tip 1. Painter is useless without a tablet. Seriously.
Tip 2. It functions suprisingly like real paint. Also layers in this act very... odd.
I use it on occasion myself, I'll put up some actual useful pointers in a couple of days, since I havn't used it in yonks (or ought else.) And I need to get myself reaccuainted. I'll doodle something up perhaps and do a step-by. If mine still works, I might have to reinstall it, I opened something with it the other day and it went green.
I digress.
I use it. I actually really like it for more...artsy stuff rather than the clean stuff I usually do. I'll get back to you with some advice.

I have used Corel before so I understand the bare basics. And thankfully I do own a tablet but my ability to ink/outline my pencil drawings is total crap. I don't know how to do it more efficiently but maybe I just need better skills (practice n all that )
EDIT: I drew a couple of pictures over Christmas Break. This one in particular I want to attempt to color. Unfortunately between the day it was drawn and now the paper has been through some hell. Its all wrinkly and fringed on the edge. And the flicky at the time must be redrawn because the scanner cut him off! 
Aaaaaaand Amy's hands need reconstructive surgery but I think I can manage that.

As much as I like the "painting" feel that Corel leaves behind, I stick with Photoshop. I've tried to sit down and learn something else but... PS has become a part of me.

PSP's still around, actually. It's up to 12 or so.
Argbibble, my laptop recently died, but now I have a new tablet and it's back. And I can't for the life of me remember anything =D

Elise the Singer
After watching Macross Frontier. I had this wild idea that Elise should have been a Princess/ singer celebrity in 06. So the opening cutscene would have been a rockin concert instead of a Final Fantasy esque parade type a deal. And she'd be singing in a concert hall set in a casino modeled after all the casino themed levels in sonic games.
Eh....I think that would have been cool.
Sonic going "Hey you stupid bolt-brains, I'm over here!"
Or something to that effect.
