I stumbled upon the official website of a heavy metal rock band that is dedicated to video game music known as Megadriver. If you haven't heard of them, you can download mp3s of their songs from the "Dicography" link at their website:
They have a way cool rendition of Green Hill Zone on their first album among other music from Genesis games.
