We fanfiction writers, we're all sand castle builders with the tide coming in. But I don't care. Like most human beings we do what brings us happiness. What's your opinion on the blow article?
Fan fiction is practice. Kinda like when artists start out by mimicking other styles to learn them, then they go on create their own unique style. Fan fiction is that same principle, after awhile the author moves on to their own thing or joins up as a writer for a licensed product.
You make your mistakes earlier with non-published works and tend to look rather stupid in the eyes of more experienced writers. Noone is good at something the first attempt, you have to crawl before you can walk, and all that jazz. Though this little article is pretty funny, and not just towards the really BAD authors milling around 'teh interwebz', but 'txt' and 'l33t' speak in general.

I read something similar here (that's a link, folks - the colour isn't all that obvious) a little while ago, with regards to Mary-Sues.
Did Rico seriously just sign twice?
Apparently so...
Noon... I was onhold to the gas company typing it. I can only assume I signed it, then typed it and signed again. That is a testament to how scatter brained I become when I try to post something at work, while dealing with the normal problems, my expanded problems due to my now lack of any help, and trying to get things ready on my recently purchased house.
I have no real excuse but being a complete scatterbrain.

Hehehehe, Rico's a Boob Tube.
To me fanfiction is way of exercising the mind or sublimating other thoughts. It helps me translate something out of my head and into something more "visible". If it comes out as a coherant piece anyone can read I'll know I'm onto something and can devote more time thinking about it and adding more.
If it comes out as incoherant I'll know it wasn't worth my time and as a bonus it'll be out of my head on onto a piece of paper or the computer so I don't have to think about it anymore and focus more on other stuff.
Course, sometimes even if it's a good idea I'd write it out to get it out of my head so I can think more about other stuff without fear of forgetting my ideas. Because I'd know they were written down so I wouldn't have to always keep them locked up in my head.
My fanfictions are a sign of my respect for the characters therein. Even though most of my fanfictions are comedys, I have an undying respect for the characters I use... except for Sonic the Hedgehog... All the other Sonic characters are good though. ^_^
I care for my fanfiction for as long as I'm engrossed in it.
And then I usually get over it and move on to another project which I'll never finish.
Since I've been working on a particular epic for Digimon since 2003 spanning over multiple titles (plus a Final Fantasy X-2 sequel and a Naruto story that I've been working on since 2004 and 2005, respectively)...I would have to say, yes, I care for my works.

It's fun. o.o
I thought we had ff.net comically filtered. Maybe I was just dreaming.

?
Well, it IS filtered by tits. >_>
Ironic how the tits aren't filtered, isn't it?
I used to read FF a lot more than I do currently...Sometimes if I just stumble across a story I may stick it out and read it. I've never read a Sonic FF though....I reccently read some Bones FF that were interesting but completely different from the series so I enjoyed it plus the writer was very good.
I used to read fanfiction often. Until I realised that a lot of it isn't really good. Then the habit slacked off. I still read from time to time but I have to scratch and dig to find good stuff.
