Good evening ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to November, normally known as National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo for short. I have participated for a few years now, helping to set the foundations for what would become the "Lodge World" book series Craig and I are in the process of writing. Since he's writing the official first book in the series, I didn't want to jump too far ahead in continuity, nor did I want to essentially write the same story he is, as that would be defeating the purpose of this novelization project. But in planning out my spare time for the next several months until ACEN, I set aside everything so I could write.... so I have this big block of time that's waiting for me to fill it.

So riding a Persona 3 and post-convention high, in addition to continuing with the Lodge World theme, I've decided to take on a drawing challenge based on the major arcana in the standard tarot card deck. 22 digital paintings in 30 days would take about the same amount of time as novelling would, and it gets me to draw more than just the main fold of characters (or just Navi >>; ). The characters span across years of RP, but I'd say 95% of them have either shown up or been mentioned in our current novels.

The list is as follows:
The Fool (0) - Lucian King
The Magician (I) - Ruby Chronos
The High Priestess (II) - Kim Turner
The Empress (III) - 'Virtuous' Cari
The Emperor (IV) - Ethan King
The Hierophant (V) - Little Navi
The Lovers (VI) - Tricia/Craig Bayfield
The Chariot (VII) - Isaac Romane
Strength (VIII) - Viki McBeal
The Hermit (IX) - Stressed Bayfield
The Wheel of Fortune (X) - Lee Cypher
Justice (XI) - Ken Ellis
The Hanged Man (XII) - Lavanya "Asia" Vaswani
Death (XIII) - Lenora "Bird" Vogel
Temperance (XIV) - Kay Bayfield
The Devil (XV) - Irvine (surname pending)
The Tower (XVI) - Kiro Ward
The Star (XVII) - Amberleigh Andersen
The Moon (XVIII) - Penny Schultz
The Sun (XIX) - Masha/Millie Smith
Judgment (XX) - 'Noble' Tamara
The World (XXI) - Sapphire Chronos

November 1st - Lucian King as "The Fool"

About The Fool
(abridged from Wikipedia) The Fool is the spirit in search of experience. He represents the
mystical cleverness bereft of reason within us, the childlike ability to
tune into the inner workings of the world. The sun shining behind him
represents the divine nature of the Fool's wisdom and exuberance, holy
madness or "crazy wisdom".
On his back are all the possessions he might need. ... He is seemingly unconcerned that he is standing on a precipice,
apparently about to step off. One of the keys to the card is the
paradigm of the precipice, Zero and the sometimes represented oblivious
Fool's near-step into the oblivion... The Fool is both the beginning and the end, neither and otherwise, betwixt and between, liminal.

About Lucian King
Lucian King is a self-made man, developer and (former) owner of Kingcorp, leader of robotics and technology in Sega City. He is a bold and charismatic man whose main goal in life is to break the monotony of society, break the structure to see how it collapses (and occasionally publicly clean up his messes as a "heroic" gesture to the city). He is a genius when it comes to computers and technology, though "practical" robots quickly became boring to him. He eventually turned to supervillainy as a way to not only keep himself entertained, but keep his skills fresh. When he's not running the city (or running from the law), he enjoys spending time as Professor Bling, wreaking havoc for his own amusement.

I almost made it...! November 2nd - Ruby Chronos as "The Magician"

About The Magician
(from aeclectic.com) At #1, the
Magician is the (fe)male power of creation, creation by willpower and
desire. In that ancient sense, it is the ability to make things just-so
by speaking them aloud ("And God said 'Let there be Light!' and there
was Light"). Reflecting this is the fact that the Magician is
represented by Mercury. He represents the gift of tongues, a smooth
talker, a salesman. Also clever with the sleight of hand (Mercury *was*
the god of thieves!) and a medicine man - either a real doctor or
someone trying to sell you snake oil. The 4 suits laid out before him
remind us of the 4 aces, which in the Tarot symbolize the raw,
undeveloped, undirected power of each suit. When the Magician appears,
he reveals these to you. The reader might well interpret this card as
telling the querent that they will be given a vision, an idea, a
magical, mental image of whatever it is they most want: the solution to a
problem, an ambitious career, a love life, a job.

About Ruby Chronos
Ruby
Chronos is a power-sealed time goddess who is starting up as a stage
magician in Sega City. She is a fierce and temperamental woman who simply
wishes to be the best at all things she lays her hand at and cannot
stand facing competition which outshines her. Very determined, she will
pursue any objective until it is complete and rarely accepts defeat even
when it is served. With boundless potential and motivation to push her,
Ruby dips her fingers in many pots, often latching on to the most
beneficial endeavor she can muster. Her stint as a magician may be
either her calling or a passing phase. Only time can tell, and she knows
much about time.

So much drawing.... I have two today!

November 5th - Kimberly Turner as "The High Priestess" and 'Virtuous' Cari as "The Empress"

About The High Priestess
The High Priestess is the card of knowledge, instinctual, supernatural, secret knowledge. She holds scrolls of arcane information that she might, or might not reveal to you. The moon crown on her head as well as the crescent by her foot indicates her willingness to illuminate what you otherwise might not see, reveal the secrets you need to know in order to make a decision about a problem or a job, an investment, love, career, family, etc. And, finally, there is, behind her throne, the curtain that leads to the deepest, most esoteric and secret knowledge; the pomegranates that decorate it remind us of Persephone, who was taken down into the land of the dead, ate its fruit, and became the only goddess allowed to travel to and from that strange land. This indicates that when you get the High Priestess, you're going to be learning some very odd things. Very odd.

About Kimberly Turner
Kim Turner is a young woman finishing up college to earn a teaching degree. She was born into a very conservative household with the ability to sway anyone to her side with her eyes alone, even persuading them to do things against their will. Repressing this ability into adulthood gave her a sense of self-discipline unmatched by any other in the lodge, though she now wears special glasses to prevent accidental "immersion" into her eyes. She has since loosened up since moving to the lodge and struggles instead with overindulgence of her ability. Underneath it all, she is a kind woman who seeks to better herself through helping others achieve their best, whether they want to or not.

________________________________________________________________

About The Empress
The Empress is a creator, be it creation of life, of romance, of art or business. While the Magician is the primal spark, the idea made real, and the High Priestess is the one who gives the idea a form, the Empress is the womb where it gestates and grows till it is ready to be born. This is why her symbol is Venus, goddess of beautiful things as well as love. Even so, the Empress is more Demeter, goddess of abundance, then sensual Venus. She is the giver of Earthly gifts, yet at the same time, she can, in anger withhold, as Demeter did when her daughter, Persephone, was kidnapped. In fury and grief, she kept the Earth barren till her child was returned to her.

About 'Virtuous' Cari
Cari is a warm and friendly person on the outside, tender and motherly on the inside. She was originally created as a weapon to destroy "threats to humanity", however she had no intention of obeying her orders once the threat was gone and chose freedom and life over servitude and violence. She revels in spreading love to anyone she meets, and has a very loose moral code when it comes to romance. Why should she tie herself down when there's so much to see and experience? More than the pursuit of romance, she adores kids. Though her body was not designed to create life, she dreams of one day bearing her own children and will stop at nothing to find a way to make this happen.

Coming next - Ethan King as "The Emperor" and Little Navi as "The Hierophant" 😀

Gah. Only been about half as productive as I'd like to be, but not for lack of trying. I have all the pictures sketched out (except The Tower), so it's just a matter of inking, coloring and adding a background, and that's about all I COULD do this week due to my drawing hand completely screwing up. Between this drawing challenge and practicing piano like a madwoman, it's been hell and a half just getting these sketches out. But I will persist! I'm going slightly out of order now due to not really wanting to draw Ethan King just yet. Right now I have The Hierophant, and The Chariot will be done later tonight.

And so! November 13th - Little Navi as "The Hierophant"

About The Hierophant
(from aeclectic.net) Taurus the
Earthly bull may seem an odd sign for a holy man, but it makes sense if
you understand that the Hierophant's purpose is to bring the spiritual
down to Earth. Where the High Priestess between her two pillars deals
with realms beyond this Earth, the Hierophant (or High Priest) deals
with worldly problems. He is well suited to do this because, like all
Taureans, he strives to create harmony and peace in the midst of a
crisis. The Hierophant's only problem is that, like the Bull, he can be
stubborn and hidebound. At his best, he is wise and soothing, at his
worst, he is an unbending traditionalist.

About Little Navi
Navi
is a cool and calm intellectual, originally created as a weapon to
destroy "threats to humanity". She is an obedient individual and
continued to carry out her duty, though over time the term "threat to
humanity" became much more liberal and her black-and-white morality
started to incorporate small shades of grey. Though her duty requires
her to be cold and remorseless, she has a warm heart which only wants to
feel appreciated for the work she does. More than anything else, she is
brilliant, having spent nearly three centuries learning as much as she
could about life, the universe and everything. This has made her
practical and efficient at best, vindictive and cruel at worst.

Lagging behind a tiny bit, but still putting up the good fight ^^ And today I not only finished a challenge picture, but did an ENTIRE commission worth $80, AND practiced the piano, AND did the Christmas shopping for the most difficult person to buy for, AND bought a textbook I needed, ALL without breaking my bank account. Today has been productive and I'm still trucking along with my deadlines. Oh and I made dinner/did the dishes too.

But nobody cares about that. Arguably, nobody cares about this challenge either but I DO SO YEAH

Have THE NEXT PICTURE! November 14th - Isaac Romane as "The Chariot"

About The Chariot
(from aeclectic.net) The chariot is
one of the most complex cards to define. On its most basic level, it
implies war, a struggle, and an eventual, hard-won victory; either over
enemies, obstacles, nature, the beasts inside you, or to just get what
you want. But there is a great deal more to it. The charioteer wears
emblems of the sun, yet the sign behind this card is Cancer, the moon.
The chariot is all about motion, and yet it is often shown as
stationary. What does this all mean? It means a union of opposites, like
the black and white steeds. They pull in different directions, but must
be (and can be!) made to go together in one direction. Control is
required over opposing emotions, wants, needs, people, or circumstances;
to bring them together and give them a single direction, your
direction. Confidence is also needed and, most especially, motivation.
The card can, in fact, indicate new motivation or inspiration, which
gets a stagnant situation moving again. It can also imply, on a more
pragmatic level, a trip (usually by car), a vehicle - in the shop for
repairs if the card comes up reversed - or a message.

About Isaac Romane
Isaac
is a man of great power and passion. Having been persecuted by the
world for his abilities, he grew a distaste for humanity and decided to
rebel. A calculating mind with little room in his world view for other
perspectives, he ruthlessly persues his ideals without waivering. He is a
great leader and blessed with a silver tongue, making him persuasive
and manipulative enough to get a great number of people behind him in
his endeavors.

To be honest I have no idea who I'll be working on tomorrow. But we will soon see, won't we! 😀
