Wow. I like it. Has that sorta Jet set radio Graffiti style to it, which is certainly a cool thing, it's very original indeed.

Good job.

Wild, very imaginative and stretched features, with nice attention to coloring details. I like it, Im reminded of the sonic adventure art again, though your style is much sharper and stretched far as details and expressions go.

Great work.

Craig: Thanks. ^^

Becca: Oh, the usuals - comics and 'toons, of course. ^^ My favorite comic book artists - who've had the most influence on me over the years, I think - are guys like Mike Wieringo, Humberto Ramos and Mark Bagley, and on the Eastern front Akira Toriyama and Yoshiyuki Sadamato. :) My "style" is mostly just trying to keep my characters and environs cartoony enough to be fun to draw, yet detailed enough to be unique and interesting. Anime action with Western comic pacing. :) Of course, translating this into furry animals like Sonic and crew is something of an experiment for me, since I haven't drawn many of these characters since I was an inexperienced young'un. In fact, like with this new pic, this is my first time EVER drawing some of them. It's a challenge. ^^;;

And yes, Sonic mugged Mickey. Or Mario. ;) Probably Mickey, since he and the plumber have been awfully friendly as of late.

Blu: Thank ya's.

WK: Thanks. The Adventure art, huh? That's where I got my color references. ^^

Anyway, new pic. Knux and the Chaotix crew (+ Sonic and Julie-Su, ala Archie-verse.) Knuckles featuring the bling-bling he's been sporting recently in the Angel Island arc. Ju-u-u-ust a pinup, pretty much. Coloring was pretty meh/lazy. I've yet to find a color tech I'm comfortable with for these kinds o' characters.

I really like the knux and the chaotix piece of work. very well done.
And the gloves you gave knuckles seem different. The're not really like the boxing glove type he usually has where it covers all of his fingers. in these one of his fingers are free. I like it. I'm not sure if this is how the official sega sonic style of knukcles is drawn, but if it's your added little detail it's a nice touch, I think.

I like it, I like it! For being your first time drawing these characters, you do so well. It's not just a simple copy, you have your own style and yet manage to capture them excellently. My favorite bit has got to be Knuckles in the second pic. Any chance you could take just him and make some kinda wallpaper thingy? I know I'd use it.

Craig: Wha-ha! Red you say? I should've looked up some color reference for him, I guess. Ah well. ^^;;

TakeOutBandit: I hadn't thought about it at the time - never really bothered to take note. XD But I'm pretty sure it's usually the boxing gloves - no loose digits. Leaving one finger free was just something that popped in - I think most of the gloved Echidnas from the Archie-verse sport the look. Personally, I think it lends itself to some more animated hand gestures - as opposed to the usual "I can make a fist!" Thanks! :D

Snipe: 'Fraid I no longer have the PSD of this man. Sorry.

Questern: That I do. ;) Right here an' now. ^^

Hey guys! Been awhile since I've updated this topic. ^^;; Here's some quick sketchbook stuff.

Old (August) sketch of good ol' Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik. The words added after the fact, while I was doing some quick (and crappy) colors on 'im.

Another old (August) sketch of Julie-Su - invested a whole hour into the coloring this time, as part of my continuing efforts to learn a comic-book styled cuts+gradients CG method in Photoshop.

*almost pops* x_x Don't mind me.. I just get easily pissed off by artists who say "Ooo! Lookit my sketches" ^_^;; Only to see it's often completed artwork.. Some people..

Anyways.. Worry not, I can see these are actually sketches. ;P

They're good. Your original style does somewhat make it easier to appreciate. ^_^ And yay! You called him ROBOTNIK! I like you now. ;P

Weirdo: Haha. ^^;; Well, they STARTED as sketches. ;) And yeah, I was never too keen on the "Eggman" name, either - though it's common, so I always figure I'll add it in. But in quotations. A nickname, and not his real name. 'Cause he's ROBOTNIK, darnit! XD

Luna: Thanks. :3 DA as in... Deviant... Art...? Because if so, yes. Yes I have considered joining Dev Art. In fact, it will have been two years since I joined in February. ;) The link to my Dev stuff is in my sig.

Anyhow, one more thing to post before I head out of town for the weekend, and that's... Ian "Potto's" Other-M issue 27!! :D (Or the two preview pages of it - not the whole thing ya' know. :P) Despite what the Sonicverse Team main page may say, #27 is indeed out finally! I was put in last minute to draw the first half - nine pages - earlier this month, and the second half was drawn by the lovely Lady Laguna. Check it out at the newly redesigned Bumbleking on Sonicverse Team!

Dude o.o

Okay, now I am totally in awe of you. At first, I wasn't to keen on your art style (no offense, I just...wasn't) but it has grown on me, but seeing it in comic format...It rules hard. It's the bees knees when put in a comic dude, it really is. Thanks for the heads-up about the new other-M dude, and well done on being asked to draw those pages:thumbsup

Oh, hey, It's Matt Herms!

Dude, I've gotta say, your pages in the latest O-M were THE best of that series ever. I was very disappointed when Lady Laguna took over half-way through; no offense to her art, but yours outshone it greatly, even she thinks so.

Any plans on doing O-M in the future, or any other comic art for that matter? I'd gladly pick up anything you're involved in, you've got great talent.

Becca: Heehee. Yup. :3 I got pulled in last minute for the gig - my first official ish is supposed to be a ten page spot on Other M Special numero 4. But, I gotta' admit, I do like the rush of the last-inning job. Thanks! :D

Darkwolfe: Haha. No offense taken, man. I wanna' tell stories with my art, after all - so if people like it more when it's in sequential format, it's all the better! :) Thanks man. (And actually, I asked to draw for OM. ^^; After reading ish 11, I was hooked and HAD to draw for it, ya' know? So I cooked up an 8 page submission one weekend, and Ian offered me time on OMS4. Then I got dropped this ish, and got to draw 9 finished pages in a week! :nn; It was wild, but fun. ^^)

Antipode: Thanks!! :D Well, as I said, I got more on OM in Super Special 04, which is a ways down the road. But I'm also working on alotta' indie books - self-published titles. I keep it all updated and stuff on my Dev Art page. :)

Chris: Thanks! Yeah, this is the first two pages of issue 27. OM is one of the longest-running (both in years and in issues made) fan-comics out there. It's a really awesome story - like the "Age of Apocolypse" to the Archie-verse, sorta'!

Butterna: Thanks!

Anyhow, quick new pic. I'm in the middle of a move, as I mentioned. But I dug up another old (August) sketch - this time of good ol' Bunnie Rabbot - to do some quick gradient-color practice again. Went for a more muted palette. Lemme' know what ya' think!! :D

Heh, stories are good...

*snaps out of it* So, if I can draw well, and beg nicly, I may be able to work on Other M sometime? (unless all the story is taken already:lol )...I'll have to see how well my own comic goes down when I post it, before I grab my begging shoes.

As for Bunnie, neat pic, I love the action pose and the way you shade the metal is great. The dulled pallet really works beutifully.

Kitsune: Thanks!! Im very glad that it got ya in the mood. :thumbsup

Silver: Thanks!

Mm Well, Ive been in the middle of moving this last week or so, so I havent been able to draw much. But I did this back before having to pack up. :D Its pencils of Sonic versus Shadow good versus evil, light versus dark. Oh yeah!! I didnt do much with the BG, though I want to really up the CG stuff on this more than my usual. Fireballs. Rain. Glowy and stuff. Or somethin. ^^; Hopefully Ill get the chance to color it soon. Thanks for lookin!

Ah yeah! And I forgot to link him in my original post about Other M ish 27 (didnt know he had a Deviant Art account), but check out issue 27s cover artist, Razor, here! :D And also about the issue, SonicVerse Teams main page has been updated now, too! Strange, I though I commented on these already... ah well.

At the risk of not being original, I have to say I'm very impressed by your art. For one thing, your general style is unique and interesting, and the colouring is pretty snazzy too. I like how you fill up the page, if you know what I mean.

I look forward to seeing the Sonic vs. Shadow picture finished.

I love your art style as well. It's very graphic and deep. You do very well with just contrasting with pencil shading. My only argument is that it seemed way too busy in the comic. It is hard (at least for myself) to follow exactly what is going on in the pictures. There's just too much fit into one page.

Although I certainly might get stoned for this post, I stand by my statement. For all your other work though, besides what is in the comic, is all straight A+ grade art.

Sniper: Thanks! ^^

Becca: Aw yeah, thisll be colored. Im actually hopin to get it done this week, even. :) Ive been in too much of a drawing groove, lately especially keeping busy working on a lot of indie-comic project stuff, too. And with Thanksgiving an all, ya know Busy. XD Thanks! :D

Fizzy: Thanks!

Buzzbomber: Thanks man! :D

Fox: Haha! No worries, bro Ive gotten that critique from A LOT of folks and fellow artists, too. :nn; All part of the learning experience, after all if something doesnt read the right way, I just gotta remember to do it right the next time around. Thanks! :D

And speaking of comics XD

I did these eight pages over a weekend wa-a-ay back in September as a sorta portfolio submission to Ian Potto Flynns fan-book Other M. :spin No Photoshopping like Id do later in my first assignment just the drawings and the letters, which I paced accordingly with how the pages originally appeared in issue 11, Veni Vidi Vici. :thumbsup So, here be those eight pages I drew up what seems like so long ago, to get a shot at Other M! Uh Minus the letters. So as not to give away too much of the story. :p

Written by: Ian Potto Flynn (before 2003)
Originally Drawn by: The very lovely Rone, who illustrated this scene my favorite in all of the comics far more powerfully than I could ever hope. :)

You can read the originally ish, brought to you by Ian and Rone, at the SonicVerse Team!

i remember that issue well, a very nice re-drawing of it there! ^^
somehow your style reminds me of graffiti art, it's so busy, got a odd prespective to it and the lineart is pretty bold.

Becca: Yup yup. ^^ It was one of my fave issues, with such a strong emphasis on Barks character right there at the end. I knew I needed to draw something to show Ian and everyone what I could do doing something with Bark just seemed like an obvious choice. :) Thanks! Hehe and yeah, youve got an eye for spotting my influences. ;) Yeah, graffiti has been another big influence on me although graffiti itself (the lettering style, and particularly trying to tag ANYTHING) in general is something Im strongly lacking in. XD

Swifthorn: Oh, since around August or so. ^^;; I tend to be very sporadic about updating and replying to it, though. XD Thanks!

Sslax: Thanks!

Well, I know I certainly dont update very often. But I did some sketchering of characters from Other M again. ^_^ Id been on a rather extended break from my assignments on the book for a long while working on a new indie book instead. But Im getting back into it and needed to get a feel for the characters again, so

and great, you updated! i do hope it wasn't due to my bugging of you on your sheezy page, i can see that you're busy.

i like here how you've given each character's lineart their own colour in these drawings, you don't need to colour them in fully as it looks good just how it is!

Cosmickid: Thank you. :)

Becca: Heehee. Nah, its cool that was hardly bugging. =P Although you did remind me that I do have this topic, and hadnt touched it in a good couple months. XD I dont like to update art topics unless I have some kinda big significant work finished stuff like this stuff (sketches) is cool, but I dont like showing off sketchwork usually. ^^;; Its a bit embarrassing. But, speaking of

I finally sat down to color this (and four other illustrations) last night. Its my least favorite of the five things I finished, though it shows more of my weaknesses when it comes to CG color than it does my strengths. (Ugh The rain. UGH.) But, at the very least, its one less thing from 2004 staring me in the face and telling me Im a lazy bum. ;)

'weaknesses' you say. pfft, i disagree. :p the rain effects and the textures you've got in places look good, but the 'flat' colours on sonic and shadow look almost plain in places.
it still looks good!

you draw so energetic looking pictures, that's why i gave you a poke to show more. 😛

Herms, you make my want to cry in jelousy now...

*does so*

Right, no that that is over with^^ Those sketches rule Majorly (with a capital M) hard, I love, as Becca pointed out, the coresponding colours in the sketches, It must make things a little easier when it comes to figuring out colouring^^

The Bean and Bunnie one is amazing, particularly the perspective on the bomb weilding hand^^ Bean's stern look gives the whole pic that little bit more...edge, as well^^

The Chaotix one I'm not AS keen on, It just seems a little too hectic. Mighty is extraordinarly well done on it, but Espio and Vector are a little confusing to make out, particularly Espio's pose, but I guess the big white trousers don't help that =P. Ray, Nack and Julie look fine though, but Mighty definatly dominates the pic with his greatness^^
And what about Prelate Miles?:jester

The Sonic sketch is just far too awesome, especially his feet, which look snazzy ^^ The name banner is perfectly positioned, and the contrasting red really makes it stand out clearly^^

As for the Sonic Vs Shadow pic, well, it makes me want to hang up my pencils and give up art, content that no-one will ever need to draw again:p But seriously, the colouring on that just makes the already great lineart better :) The Rain looks perfect to me, and I doubt the background could be improved, ever. The colour on the main characters is perfect, and the light glows on the Bg, shoes, and chaos attack are very well done, though the lighting effects on the two seem a little too faint to me, kinda more like light-fall under water, perhaps makeing them brighter with sharp bright centres with a larger duller glow around? I don't know, but it might work better^^ Also I noticed much of the sketch shading left on. While this is REALLY effective in certain areas (ie, the jets on Shad's shoes) it does detract from others (the soles of Son's shoes) perhaps it's something you need to watch out for in future, or not, whatever.

Anywho, keep up the awesome work.

*hopes this comment dosn't disapear into whatever black hole consumed my last comments on the SonVsShad pic*
