I've been wanting to get into "sprite art" for a while, but the problem is I barely have a sane clue as to going about it. Does anybody have any advise and/or tutorials??

The only advice I can give is to always keep a thumnail view open, and if you start spriting, never, ever stop. Because if you stop for a small while, it gets really, really hard to start again.

In more detail, uh, I find it best to, like real drawing, to start with a "Skeleton" drawing, in colours your not going to use such as garish yellow or green, mapping out the pose and basic structure. Then map out a basic outline sketch, not what you intend to use exactly, but just as a guide, either in another garish colour, or pure black, then go from there. Once you've got your outlines, it's all just fiddling till it looks right really.

Oh, and never, ever use pure black or white on an actual sprite. taking colours in RGB jumps of 32 tends to work quite well, but if that isn't enough, 16 jumps should really be your maximum. Try not to go beneath 16-16-16 as your black, but any of the 32s work as a black well. White should be about 224-224-224, anything else is too bright, keep pure white for your background, unless your using some other rediculous fuschia or green or something. Or black if your emo.
