Well, I figured that I should be honest about my intentions =P. I've been making Sonic fangames since...well, probably too long. I finished making one game (a beat-em-up) a while ago and I'm currently making a racing game - though the future of that one is pretty uncertain. I apologise if most people here know of these already...but I'm assuming not, all things considered. Anyway, allow me to elaborate:
The first, completed game is called 'One Girl Army'. It stars Amy as the lead character and...wait, don't run off just yet =P. Amy may be the lead, but the game itself is not sickeningly cute or 'girly'. It will appeal to anyone with a passing interest in beat-em-ups. Even if that's not your kind of thing, I encourage you to try it (natrually).
There is a storyline, but it plays second fiddle to the action in this game. The cutscenes can be skipped at your leisure and are generally meant to be more funny than serious.
Onto the gameplay itself...your 'mission' is to fight your way through waves of enemies any way you can. In each stage, Your targets are the 'leaders', but be warned - they can be dangerous if you don't break their morale first.
Now...Amy may only be armed with her fists and her hammer, but she knows how to kick ass . Basic combination attacks allow her to knock enemies away, launch them and even follow them up for some mid-air action. In addition, Amy learns several special moves throughout the game that can be used to extend her combos and take down tougher foes. To top it off, when Amy's fury builds up she can also bust out a 'fury' attack that'll knock enemies for six. It's not as complicated as it might seem - special moves are dead simple to pull off and you don't have to worry about timing your combos.
Alright then, here's a few screenies:
And finally...if you want to check it out, you can download the game here: homepage.ntlworld.com/christopher.lowe7/ogafinal.zip
I reccommend you read the help file before starting off. It explains how to change the default controls (they're set up different from usual, spread across two players), as well as the game mechanics, saving/loading and a few other useful tips.
The second game, currently early in progress, is very different. It's called 'Sonic Powerdrift' and it's a mode 7 racing game, but without that horribly slow mode 7 extension. The emphasis here is firmly on action. The handling is as aracdey as you like, with instant turning and no fiddly gears to worry about. As in most racers, you can get speed boosts by collecting rings littered around the tracks. That is, if the other racers don't get to them first...
...of course, you're not the only one taking part =P. You will typically be racing against three computer opponents. The characters in the game so far are Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy. Character/car selection is important, as each one has different stats for acceleration, braking, top speed, cornering and weight. Choosing a character ill-suited for a track is not an advisable strategy.
Unfortunately, I don't have a demo of this game ready yet. Certainly not a presentable one. So instead, there is a video: homepage.ntlworld.com/christopher.lowe7/pdvideo.zip Oh, and a couple of screenshots:
While this game is going OK so far, I'm uncertain as to whether I should continue it or try another game like 'One Girl Army' - which I did actually enjoy doing. Eh...time will tell, I guess =P
Well, that's everything. I'm open to suggestions, criticism or generally anything you'd like to say.
You were the one behind OGA? Hrmm, I really must've gotten things mixed up; for a while I thought that was someone else's baby, maybe ilascott's or something (but then, ila WAS making an Amy game a while ago, so that would make sense).
I should try it out sometime. If it's anything like Streets of Rage, it'll be good.
Will you be able to play multiple charcters in "One girl army" or is it just Amy? Also about Sonic power drift. What tracks will be featured in the finished game?
Well it's not called "Two Girl Army" so I think the answer to that first one is a bit obvious.
Awesome! I'm downloading OGA as I type this. =3 Finally, a game where Amy can really unleash her fury! Excellent work!
WOW! I'm totally blown away by the music! I'm listening to the main theme right now... I love it! And the in-game music is good, too! It has a Sonic CD feel to it...
Thanks for your interest. Righto then, I'll answer a few questions:
Shadow Hog - Yep, it was me. I can see why you might think Ila made the game, as he has an Amy fetish too =P. Or maybe you got confused with Epon. Way back in 2002, he started making a platformer of the same name. It never got finished, though....Epon abandoned it, and some time on, I thought I would use the title (seeing as it fits in with my game nicely).
The game doesn't play exactly like Streets of Rage (you won't be picking up metal pipes or throwing opponents around - sorry!), but I reckon that's what people would think of the most as they play it. It's similar in that you do basically move from left-to-right while smashing up the enemy =P but there's more variety in the combos you can do, and you're encouraged to take out the 'minor' enemies in a section first.
Soldier Dan - To answer your first question...what Shadow Hog said. My post also states that 'One Girl Army' is complete, so...yeah. As for 'Sonic Powerdrift', I'm really not sure what other tracks will be in the game. There wont be any kind of story behind the game (come on, Sonic would never use a kart anyway =P), so the tracks can be themed around any zones people like the best...or anything original.
Shoehedgie - I thought the theme song (or rather, 'One Girl Army' by FIF) was cool, too . The music in the actual game comes from all over the place - take a look at the credits in the help file if you're curious.
