Hey there, just wanted to show off a bit of info on my webcomic project I've been working on. First..a general idea of what I'm going for with this comic and what the story is all about:

If you've ever heard of the Ultimate Marvel Comics line you'll understand what I'm trying to do, if you haven't, Back in the early 2000s, Marvel created the Ultimate Marvel Comic books line, basically taking already established characters and revamping them with new backstories, new powers, new everything pretty much, Ultimate comics generally strayed away from magic and radiation, usual components for creating superheros and opted to use genetic manipulation and more realistic ways of explaining the character's backstories.

So what is Ultimate Sonic the Hedgehog? Basically what I talked about above. I will be taking the Sonic Universe and basically starting over. Very few characters will retain their original's personalities, appearances etc. For instance, remember Vector the Crocodile? In my story, Ultimate Vector will start off as the Ultimate version of Croc-bot before being Derobotized by the Freedom Fighters to see the effects of Derobotizing a Robot that ISN'T a Robian. Or even Tails, now 15 years old, will gain the ability to mentally control machines after touching the Yellow Chaos Emerald. There's literally hundreds of established characters to reinvent and I'm excited to do so.
The Story:
500 years in the Future, one of the leading companies in Robotics, Kintobor Industries, is attacked by a Mercenary Group who is attempting to steal Kintobor Industries technology for a rival Robotics company. During the attack, one of Dr. Gerald Kintobor's experiments is accidently released. Originally, before becoming one of the pioneers in A.I. and Robotics, Dr.Gerald was attempting to replicate various extinct animals by basically using a mutagenic virus to turn one animal that is plentiful, into another animal that is not. The project was shut down by the Government who feared what would happen if the virus was released, which in fact happened when one of the mercenaries found Gerald's virus hidden away in a secret part of his lab and dropped the container holding the virus. It spread like wildfire, covering the entire planet in a matter of hours. Most of Earth's population was turned into half human, half animal hybrids, while there were some humans who's bodies resisted the virus and did not change at all. The virus eventually died out after a few years, it was unstable and unable to survive for long although many of the infected people died as a result, those who managed to carry children would spawn a new race of person called "Mobians". These Mobians often fought with the Humans over control of the planet, which lead to one of the worst Civil wars in Earthan history called: "The Great War". After the war, humans and Mobians did reconicle and lived peacefully. Until that is..

500 years later, the year 3000.

Dr.Julian Kintobor, the current owner of Kintobor Industries, was a highly respected and valuable scientist who not only created the Riot control robot called "Swatbots". he also created robots called Servdroids that helped families around the house, taking care of children. However, Julian's prosperity would not last, one night while fixing a malfunctioning Swatbot, the robot suddenly came online and fire a shot from it's laser cannon into Julian's chest. Fading fast, Julian attempted the only thing he could think of to save his life. In Julian's time period, most important scientists keep backup "copies" of their brains on chips in case they die before making some great discovery or invention. If this happens, that scientist's brain is uploaded onto a computer mainframe so that he or she can continue his/her work. Remembering this, Julian atttempts to place his backup brain inside his super computer, but instead misses because of his weakening state of mind and injects it into a Servdroid. Uploading a backup brain into anything BUT a regular computer is not only dangerous, it has a low chance of even working, In Kintobor's case it did work in a way, but, upon going online, Julian's brain couldn't handle it's body and he lost all focus on reality. Calling himself Dr.Robotnik, He went on a crime spree, raiding various labs and robot factories across the country, he altered his body to become stronger, Robotnik built his latest invention, the Robotizer. Injecting the subject with nanobots, the Robotizer replaces the skin and organs with robotic tissue and makes them completely obedient to Robotnik's will. After kidnapping and Robotizing hundreds of individuals, Robotnik attacked New York with his army but, was halted by the Freedom Fighters, an elite group created to defend Earth from superhuman threats. However as he became stronger, it became apparent that the Freedom Fighters were not enough..in comes

Sonic the Hedgehog, a lowly 16 year old Newspaperboy, Sonic lives with his parents Jules and Bernice and is both a lazy and uncooperative teen. Sonic often thinks he was born for something more than his lowly lifestyle and wishes he could join the Freedom Fighters. Sonic's boring life changes one day when a small blue stone crashlands from space into his backyard. After touching the stone, Sonic gains super speed and his quills become sharp enough to cut through steel. Realizing he can finally do something worthwhile with the gift he received from the stone, Sonic attempts to impress the Freedom Fighters by tracking down and battling Dr.Robotnik to a standstill...seemingly easily overwhelmed by Robotnik's power, Sonic proves both his resolve and will to the Freedom Fighters by saving New York from Dr.Robotnik and destroying Kintobor Industries's tower, Robotnik's headquarters.

And that is the summary of the story and what basically happens in the first several pages from the Webcomic.

Just took the time to read over this whole idea and then take a look over the comic art itself.

I'll be completely honest here: I don't like it.

First of all, the plot idea. The explanation of why there are animal anthropomorphs is more than just a bit far-fetched. If Gerald's research was shut down by Government intervention specifically because they fear what might happen if the virus is released, why did they not seize the virus and put it somewhere safe?
Furthermore, how the heck does it spread in just a few hours around the entire world? That isn't even physically possible by any stretch of the imagination - you might have noticed the fact that the H1N1 virus (aka swine flu) was only recently declared a pandemic - and it's taken weeks for it to reach that far, and I doubt it's managed to reach every part of the world yet.
Extrapolating on that point - how on Earth does this virus manage to not only cover the globe in a scant few hours, but also only disappear after a few years? The reason I make this point is that you make it quite clear this is supposed to be 500 years in the future - surely medical technology should be fantastically more advanced by then, and easily able to swiftly develop intervention means for this virus?
Also, going by the fact this virus covers the globe and infects most of the population, I'm assuming this then means a huge percentage of said global population dies soon after. And then there's a civil war? (Also, you may wish to check your history books. I'm pretty sure the name "The Great War" has already been taken for an earlier globe-spanning war or two...)
Then we move on to the year 3000... why?
This next part I have huge problems with. Are we to take it Julian keeps his brain backup on his person? Also, why is he working on maintaining the Swatbot by himself if there's the possibility of it killing him? And the really problematic part: why on Earth does the backup require Julian personally to inject something into a computer? Couldn't someone else have done it when they came in the next morning and found him dead? It is just a computer copy of his brain algorithms after all, right? And the worst part, how the bloody hell do you manage to inject something like this into a droid instead of a computer?! Even for a dying man with a weakening state of mind, it should not be that difficult to distinguish a supercomputer (which is usually huge and occupies a space of several square feet) from a robot (the ones you're describing here sound to be roughly the size of a human).
And then we have the fact that Robotnik, once incarnated, randomly decides to attack New York for no reason whatsoever.
Finally we have Sonic himself, and he's so horribly clichéd I don't even know where to begin, but he reeks of Mary-Sue.

That's before I got to the comic art itself, and there is one thing I will state very clearly from the start: you need to leave the damn Photoshop filters alone. The only thing you've actually drawn on the cover page is Sonic himself, and it's blaringly obvious from the get-go. Regarding Sonic himself, I see what you're trying to do by adding lines to portray all his spikes, but it doesn't really work - he just looks like he hasn't shaved in several days.
Then we get to the first page, and I haven't even the slightest idea what in the blazes is going on here. There seems to be some sort of bizarre non-sequitir happening in the middle, as the dialogue between the characters doesn't add up with what appears to be happening on the page. Also, the fact that you've added shadows to the characters on what I assume are the walls behind them unfortunately makes them look like cardboard cut-outs, as you forgot to shade absolutely anything else on the whole page.
The one saving grace I have seen is that your take on Robotnik for this does actually look pretty neat - however you'd need to do a lot of work on how he comes into existence for it to actually work.

Overall, the best advice I could give you in regards to what you've done so far would be to take a long hard look over it and iron out all the plotholes in it before even making another page - as some more successful writers and artists have put it, if you can't figure out why or how something makes sense, how is your audience supposed to?
Hope you found the pointers I raised useful - I do like the concept of what you're trying to do, but so far the actual idea for it shows need of a lot of work. If you're willing to put that work into it though then I wish you all the best with it!

Well thank you for your constructive criticism, and I agree with pretty much everything you said. Believe me, when I got the idea to do this I got a bit too excited and raced forward on the project at (ahem) supersonic speed. Although I can't counterpoint most of what you said, there are a few plot holes you pointed out that I am working on fixing for one:

The Government did take Dr.Gerald's mutagenic virus away, but not wanting his research to go to waste, Gerald kept another sample of the virus hidden.
I'm calling the civil war between the Mobians and the Humans "The Great War" as a nod to The Great War from the Sonic Comics.
I didn't want to reveal this plot point so soon but, basically as you pointed out, a virus like that could not cover the Planet in a few hours, that's impossible but, the web comic is going to be frequently flashing back years earlier to the events that helped release the virus and reveal exactly what happened. Basically the Ultimate Version of Black Doom is going to be a factor in the virus's spreading. MY black doom will be somewhat like Loki from Marvel Comics, a character who enjoys destruction and chaos, Black Doom has been watching Earth for some time, and when he foresees the possibilities of Dr.Gerald's virus(and the devastating civil war that follows) Black Doom will use his powers to help spread the virus but, I am also going to make the virus's spreading take a bit longer(possibly a week, maybe 2). Yes you'd think at that time Doctors would be prepared for something like this which is why Black Doom will use his powers in some form to halt this as well(you will not see Flashbacks to Black Doom's part in the virus's conception until much later in the comic however. When you see Julian in the comic you will realize that he is working on the SWATbot basically to keep himself busy, and like I said it's malfunctioning and he didn't expect it to suddenly go crazy and fire about nor did he expect to get shot by it. Yes I did not explain Robotnik's reason for attacking New York at all, which I apalogize for. It will be in part though that Robotnik like his mainstream counterpart still has that ambition of his to create his own empire: "Robotnikland" "Eggmanland" whatever combination of his name fits your liking but, you get the point. For the comic itself, yes I agree, it did not come out at all like I hoped it would, I used way too much photoshop and not enough of my own skills. Sonic himself, I am comfortable with his design and will only be altering it slightly, I like the extra spines on his back and head as it makes him look a bit more like a real hedgehog to me. By the way, when we start the story it's in the year 2500, which is when the virus turns most of the population into Mobians, I'm moving ahead 500 years again so you'll get an idea of how the world has changed since then and how the relationship between Mobians and Humans has changed as well over the years, similar to the racial struggle between whites and other races over the past hundreds of years. Also, it takes place in the year 3000 also as a nod to the Sonic comics since currently they take place in the year 3237. Overall I am a bit dissapointed that the first reaction to my comic is an incredibly negative one but, I'm grateful for your pointers. Keep checking my DA and give me a heads up if you think anything's improved at all.

It's good to see you're determined with this, so I will perhaps keep an eye on it as you develop it - and keep a watchful eye for how the plotholes get plugged ;p

One other thing - could you do something about using bold font in all your posts? it actually makes them more difficult to read, and it's a tad unnecessary.

Sorry, bit of a habit on other forums. Anyways, soon I will be reposting the first page with major alterations so keep an eye out. I am currently trying to find another artist to collaborate with for the cover to the first Volume.
