The topic was moved to MFC 2 and locked down, I don't know by whom, nor do I know why.
While I think the rule about personal attacks were broken by some of the posters that is not much of a concern to me, mods around here usually do their job in a fair and professional manner.
The issues of conservation, preservation, game/land management, and how we manage those issues, is a rather important political topic and I believe that it deserves discussion.
We had a good thread on Fox Hunting's ban in the UK a while back and it did not descend into name calling so I know that we were mature enough to handle the subject matter, and I have confidence that we can do so again.
And so I respectfully request that the thread be moved to Marble Garden and unlocked, or that I am given the go ahead to start a new thread in Marble Garden about the role of sport hunting in modern society. Something along the lines of differences between conservation and preservation, and different models of game/land management. There are plenty of historical examples of the myriad forms of management that run the whole spectrum of political philosophy.
Thank you for your time.

Isn't it a bit heartless to turn a donation request into a heavy debate in the first place?
I think the reason it was locked is well covered in Very Crazy Penguin's post, people were using the topic to be, for lack of a better word, jackasses. Posting stupid jokes, insults, heartless comments and more or less disregarding the heartfelt and pure request the original poster had made.
It was moved to MFC2 because it had hit a number of posts which causes this. It was locked because the thread was deemed, by the mod in question, to be a steaming pile of... you know what.
Of course, I don't speak for him or any of the staff, I am simply padding out a reply which asks "why such the vehement debate in a topic pleading for help?"
"why such the vehement debate in a topic pleading for help?"
Simply because of the subject matter. An old tale comes to mind...
An emperor had a son whom he loved dearly, and so he gave his son a fine hunting cat as a birthday present. Within three days the cat was dead, and the emperor listened to his son explain how he had fed, bathed, groomed the cat and tearily lament it's passing.
So the emperor got his son a fine hound to replace the cat. The next day the emperor came across his son holding the hound over the balcony and watched in horror as the boy let go, causing the hound to fall to it's death.
The boy turned to his father with a tear in his eye and said, "This one doesn't fly either."
There are many morals to the story, but the one applicable to our scenario is that there are many ways to "help". Hence a simple plea to help "save Alaska's wolves" brought up much broader discussion. After all, those that shoot the wolves think that they are saving the overall wolf population.
It's complicated, political, and current. I think half the trouble came from the posting in MFC instead of MG in the first place...
Anyways, thank you for the explanation.

Craig hit the nail on the head. I doth proclaim him high king of nail-hit-on-the-headery. The coronation will take place in a land that is far away but close to our hearts, at a time that may only exist on the inner eyelid of a dreaming child, so real that it can only be false, and so false that it can only be strawberry pudding. Sweet fuliflling strawberry pudding, with amazing sprinkles that produce a unique taste sensation for each individual taste bud they may pass, an ever-changing chameleon of the confectionary world as if fueled by the everlasting power of rainbows. There will be much rejoicing, dancing upside down on the underneath of the largest fluffiest cloud the world has to offer, as the little children jump up to reach the tree tops of the world below - henceforth referred to as The High Spherical Garden. And from The High Sperical Garden the leaves of blossom will rain down on us all, and there will be much dancing, and rejoicing for the new king. All hail, Bayfield! Hail to you, Thane of Bunnyland! All hail, Bayfield! Hail to you, Thane of The Wiggly Tree! All hail, Bayfield! That shall be king hereafter.
Afterwards there will be cake.
*Narrows eyes at Lee* None of that, please >>;
*Back to Jimro* If half the problem was that it was posted in MFC in the first place, you're proving your own folly. It was posted in MFC because it wasn't intended to be a political debate, it wasn't posted in the SPA because it wasn't intended to be a stupid mess of idiots defacing avatars. It was posted in the main discussion board so people could click the link and try to help.
If you were so moved by the need to create a debate out of it, you could have easily created a topic in Marble Garden yourself and linked to it in the thread in question. But with you, every post has to be contraversial and the grounds to start a debate, as insightful and well worded as they are, are often just unwanted in the situation.
Deviation upon the intial topic is promoted and all, but have some tact, dude. That's like starting a debate on animal testing when someone asks for people to donate to cancer research. It's just not on.
Craig,
I will let the subject lie if that is the general consensus of mods. Altho it does irk me that I cannot explain to VCP how I can be a hunter and care about the environment.
Jimro
Why not open a topic in Marble Garden? I enjoyed the Fox Hunting debate too, if it's handled maturely and put in a forum away from the idiots, it might actually be a good discussion and I'd be a part of it for sure.
Thanks Craig,
Thread started, I look forward to your input.

I'm just wondering how I 'jumped on Marauder's back' (as VCP put it) when I answered the original point of the topic by saying 'aerial gunning seems too cruel for hunting. Nix it'. >>
I have two things to say about that topic.
For once I "mostly" agree with VCP.
Get your own @#%$ thread if you wanna stand on a political soapbox. That wasn't your thread, Jimro.
I would go out on a limb and say the bastardization of my avatar was to make people lighten up and was at least ok in that sense. If VCP said it was against the rules he'd be being hypocritical and so would I.
The "@#%$ Wolves" post I thought was rather funny. And I figured Wonderbat made it that why. Crim and I took it that way while the rest of you went on a mud slinging debate.
I guess the bottom line is maybe some mods step on eggshells around you guys but obvious VCP doesn't and right now I don't feel like it either. Pull your heads outta your asses and get a sense of humor. If you don't learn to laugh at yourself everyone else WILL.
despite what you said jimro, i actually still agree with someting craig said earlier
Isn't it a bit heartless to turn a donation request into a heavy debate in the first place?
thats why i would close it down if i were a mod, because the discussion is waaaaaaay to heavy for an innocent donation topic.
I can take at least part of the blame for making a post that I figured people would be able to accept as a joke.
Guess I was wrong.
Wonder, you complained about us thinking you were joking in the chat. You said that it wasn't a joke, and that you were being serious.

Man, first you incorrectly quasi tell someone off, then commit the crime yourself. What's up with you lately? Surely you know how things go down by now.
But yes, Bat has a tendancy to lie to try to cover his ass and you jump on him for every little thing cos you dislike him lalala this thread has served it's purpose GO 'WAY.
I smell closure! YAAAAAAAAAY!
