I hear occasional complaints about advertisements, but they don't bother me, for one simple reason: I don't see them. And you shouldn't have to either. Hence this topic, in which I shall explain how to get rid of the ads. If other people have different ways then they can feel free to share.

Here's how I am avoiding the ads:

1) I am using Mozilla Firefox. You can download the latest version of firefox from Mozilla's website. It's free and a lot of people prefer it to internet explorer. I agree with them.

2) I have also installed the "Adblock Plus" extension. This is extremely easy to do. In firefox, simply go here and click the "Install Now" button. This will do exactly what its name says: block ads.

3) Finally, I have installed the "Adblock Filterset.G Updater" extension, which you can do here by clicking the "Install Now" button. Basically this improves adblock and regularly updates its capabilities.

With those two exetensions enabled in Firefox, you should not be seeing any ads. You may, however, still see the gaps where the ads would be placed. I still see them, but they don't bother me.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to stop them in other browsers, or suggestions on how to eliminate the gaps left by the ads, then please share.

Opera has a spiffy built-in content blocker that works pretty well. Just right-click somewhere, click "Block content", then click on anything you want blocked.

Why are there ads now in the first place, anyway? o_O

We aren't feeding the Ezcashcow so they punish us with ads.

Adblock does that wihtout a filterset, ZeroSky, but you don't ever need to do it if you follow Step Three. I do the same thign and haven't seen an ad, popup, banner, or annoying script since.

I got the ads even with Adblock (not Plus) installed, so I just manually blocked everything from pagead.googlesyndication.com

Works like a charm now

Ah... Seems like they do things differently now than the last unpaid board I was at.

Yeah, I was just explaining how to do it in another browser since he asked about that.

I usually don't block all ads myself anyway, just things that annoy me.

One thing I forgot to mention as well, you don't have to block each and every individual image. When you block something, it blocks everything from that server, not just the one ad.

I don't know about vanilla Adblock, but Adblock Plus doesn't seem to require the Filterset.G Updater extension to automatically block the ads; I use just Firefox and ABP and I've yet to see any of the ads whatsoever.

go to adblock preferences, then paste http://pagead.googlesyndication.com/pagead/ into the new filter box

due to admining several non-gold boards.. i've gotten used to ignoring them. at least most of them aren't the type that try to give people epileptic fits.
firefox filters out the more annoying ads however.

I would advise that such discussion be kept in private, or at least off EZBoard due to the TOS.

What, EZboard doesn't want people discussing ways to circumvent their blatant attempts at blackmailing their free user membership base by hook or by crook, on their boards? I'm shocked... just SHOCKED.

Well, not that shocked.
