I've noticed that this place is really cluttered with old topics that no one replies to anymore. I was thinking that someone should probably go through the old posts and delete the ones that are over a month old without replies. What do you think?

we never delete topics here, it's what the storage forum is for. ^^
how is it cluttered? old threads move off the first page as new ones replace them.

*scoots this over to the right place, which is the emerald visiter center*

Edit: cheezyboard is giving me errors, i'll move it later

there's no reason not to keep old posts for posterity; i like being able to look back on old threads for reference and entertainment. if we go by your suggestion, we would basically be wiping away almost all traces of our past just to make the place look less "cluttered". tell me why this is a good thing.

There are numerous older topics with the "Unknown - Cannot be restored" but the lead is almost always intact with the replies not. That's from the great Ezhack 05.. if that's what you mean.

They have an uncertain future. o.o

Well, what I really meant by this, is that it is becoming harder and harder to create new (good) topics without copying an old one, and isn't that against the rules?

Then why not just have fun posting in the existing ones?

I understand that - especially when you're a comparatively new poster - people like to be able to create their own topics, and to be able to say "I did that! That's mine!" when they look at the results. We're all human, and a little adrenaline buzz from pride can be nice.

But as far as I'm concerned (and this is just my personal opinion rather than me trying to speak for the staff), it's who you are and what you say, not whether or not you've been able to put that proprietary stamp on an entire topic. By the same token, if a topic you started got hijacked by lamers, would you be as keen to say "That's mine!" then?

It doesn't matter. Say or do something that people like, and people'll pay attention regardless. Why should anyone care whether you started the topic or not?

lol @ hard to create new topics...

That's like saying it is hard to create new movies or new music or new video games...

I thought about that, too - but I wasn't going to be quite that blunt...

I can see what he's saying when it comes to thinking of something original, but we can't all have the software to create flashy media, or have time for a marathon like the original Sailorness outbreak.

Ideas're everywhere, though - what's on the news, what's on TV, whatever you've read recently... And that's just what doesn't necessarily require any additional bells and whistles like sprites, music or the like.

He's also partly concerned with regard to the actual rule regarding replicating topics - which seems to have happened in MFC and in general on the board during exciting times with developments like Sonic being in Brawl and such.

If a topic is several pages back in a forum, I do not see it as a crime to create a new topic that covers the same subject. It would be impossible to keep track of every single topic and make sure not to repost something that was already posted; also, maybe a new topic will invite fresh discussion, while a huge ancient topic would only be ignored if revived again.

Pretty much use your good judgment when it comes to making posts. If the topic you want to post about has a topic within the first three ages of a forum, then you can probably just post your new information there. That's my suggestion.

I see. Wow, I've been going on forums and the like for... six years now? Maybe a little less than that, but I never even really thought of some of those things. I even once had my own websites, but I got rid of them due to lack of membership. Samanfur, you make some VERY good points, and I'd like to praise you for that. Same for Tergonaut. I just worry that new members, unlike myself in style, would think it unfair and not post at all anymore. It doesn't bother myself as much as I may have made it seem, but I worry about the other members.

EDIT: Also, the fact that you still consider me a newbie kind of hurts, considering the time I've spent on this forum, talking to all of you on an equal level.

Apologies if I offended you, Ramza - I just hadn't seen you much before the last few months, and made a calculated guess on how long you'd been around from your post count.

*slaps own wrist*

Don't worry, you didn't offend me. ^_^ It just kind of upsets me when people say things like that to me when I've known them for a certain amount of time. I count many of you to be my friends, including you, Samanfur. I know that may not mean much to some people, considering this is the internet and all, but it matters to me. Anyway, enough of me being sappy. This isn't the place for that. I can do that somewhere else. This is a place for serious discussion, and nothing more. What I meant in what I said in my first post, I believe, has now been made clear. I hope you may take what I have said here into account and, perhaps, find some way to mend the situation in favor of those who do not know how things work around here. Yes, I know that may be hard on some of the other, older, members, but isn't it best if the forum is kept alive, then being tied down due to this rule or that?

P.S.: Thank you for you words, Samanfur. It was kind of you to apologize, even when you didn't have to. I thank you.
