I've noticed that thing for the past couple of years and I must ask.
Does it do anything?
I mean, if I unclick it, will I be modded for off-topic? 
I think it's so you can see your message as soon as you post. I think unchecking takes you to the subforum's main page.

Yeah, it kicks you to the main page. Keeping it checked, you can see your post without having to click back into the thread.

Ah. I just thought it literally meant in-topic (As in topicality) for whatever reason. lulz
