Popularity Points Opt-Out

Certain people would not like to take place in the popularity point system that has been forced onto the chat. I think the best way to make everyone happy, including the people with high scores, is to make it opt-out. How about people are able, by request, to have their points set to 0 and locked down or something similiar? This way, those that would rather not take place in the system can do so.

It shouldn't be too hard to implement some sort of thing where anyone who requests it could have their points stuck to zero. If it can be edited to where someone continuously goes up no matter who /loves who, it can be implemented that someone stays at zero, no matter who /loves or /hates them. I'd really appreciate it if this were one less thing I were flamed about on a dialy basis, in Chat* and offboard, so if it can be done, start with me?

*Please don't ask me for proof, I will say now I have none, and if I were to name anyone, it would be my word against theirs.

Vec has said as soon as he gets access to FlashChat control, he is removing the popularity points completely.

This would be a great compromise, really, between the people that do and don't like popularity points.

That's referring to how Acrio gets points every time anyone loves or hates anyone, and Thunder loses points every time under the same condition, if anyone didn't know. Definately not fair on Thunder's part.

EDIT: OTB's post came in while I was typing mine, oops.

Is that official, OTB? That is, final? 'Cause this is more of a way to leave more people satisfied, like, I know some people want the system, and I'm indifferent to it's existance except for the whole forced-to-use-it thing. Some people just can't resist the urge to flame those with a low score, or use it for typical assery - "As long as I'm around, all you RP kids will have a negative score" - so I'd like a way to be excluded from it. Unless Vec's already made up his mind to no-matter-what get rid of it, I'm just expressinga different option here.

yes, SX. I'd quote what Vec said in chat but I cleared a while back.

Actually I said I'd fix it, so that may mean an opt-out or opt-in or positive scores only and you should post your opinions here. It will definitely mean taking out the current cheats that up some people and down others every time somebody uses the command.

"As long as I'm around, all you RP kids will have a negative score"

Whoever said something related to this?

I'd be more comfortable if you ripped out my version of the function entirely and start from scratch.

I thought the "RP kids" thing would tip you off that Bat said that, Geo.

Also, Acrio said something along the lines of all RPers havnga negative score too, though now that I think about it he was probably just stating a fact.

Probably opt-out is best, in my opinion.

I don't think having positive scores only would be better. It would be exactly the same, except instead of the disliked people having negative scores they'll just have really low/zero scores.

I don't personally have any problems with the popularity system. It's just there, it's just numbers, it's not meant to be representative of anything serious. That said, I do feel that, if someone wishes to opt out of it, they should be allowed to.

I have never made such an outlandish statement and have personally never used the /hate command against anyone whose name doesn't strart with an 'S' and end with 'tairmaster'.

So, in the future, if you're going to make allegations against me, could you at least keep your stories straight?
This isn't the first time you've made a mistaken accusation about me in the last few weeks, let alone ever.

EDIT: I would like for a staff member to edit the offending statement out of SX's original post, as there is no proof to show that such a statement was ever issued, as our southern host so readily admits.

Lord of the BBQ (5:08 pm): Have you ever seriously insulted thios poor defensless southern lad based on his popularity score?
Lord of the BBQ (5:08 pm): Keep one hand ont he bible when you answer, Bat.
Winterbat (5:09 pm): SX stop saying I said things that I did not

It climaxes at

SX (In a beautiful dress) (5:09 pm): I already said I had no proof, and that's why I didn't name you until Geo asked

And downfalls as SX clamors to say his friends and staffers have proof. proof that, conveniantly, doesn't exist.

Right. SX has admitted he has no proof and has publicly apologised in chat for making such claims without proof. There's your retraction right there. Frankly, I think this is a whole lot of fuss about nothing and it's best for everybody if nothing more is said on this minor issue. End of discussion. Back to the popularity system in general.

Back to the topic at hand, I really can't see any valid complaints about the popularity system as it doesn't affect anything and exists for entertainment purposes. Besides, it's not like people are being forced to use /love or /hate, or to look at the charts.

So, out of curiosity, just why exactly do people have such an issue with the system? It's been a bone of contention since its introduction and I honestly don't know why.

Because it's used [as a reason and/or way to] to flame; also, as you said yourself, it's pretty much pointless. Honestly, it isn't that big a deal of it, I'm more sick of seeing fights about it and seeing Acrio brag that Thundy and Hiro and I will always have low scores more than I'm sick of the system itself, hence I'm more "Let's make it optional" and less "OMG KILL THE DAMN THING RIGHT THE HELL NOW"

if the system wasn't rigged, I wouldn't think there would be any issue with it.

Actually, if the system was rigged, I think sensitive people might be more offended by it.
As in, if they see a low score, they would know that that is really a reflection (Not rly but jewno mang jewno) of what the public thinks of him or her, instead of some crazy whacky number.

The previous only applies to silly insecure kids. Personally I don't mind it, as it's comedy.

Acrio explicitly said the system was created to start fights. It has accomplished that, so I'd imagine he's rather pleased about it.

Terg's statement is either true or UNtrue. I can or can not prove it so I may or may not be bothering.

Actually, Geo does have a point. As it is we know the numbers mean nothing other than what Acrio's opinions are, lawl.

As already mentioned, I would think the fact that it is rigged would be the reason why most people have a problem with it.

Personally, as it serves no practical value, I don't see any reason for it to exist. Of course, too many chat commands--of which there was at one time way too many IF there still aren't--also belong (or belonged) in that category. I don't go in the chat often enough to pay attention to how many there are now versus any time in the past.

Obviously, if it does stay, it should have an opt-out function (along with ANY unnecessary chat-related "game"/command).
