Sonic HQ a little bit behind?

I've been noticing a lot lately the Sonic HQ site is getting further and further out of date. The comic archive only goes up to issue #189. The newest article on the news page is from August! There hasn't been a sonic comic review in almost 30 issues!!! What's going on?

Obligatory comment about how the staff have real lives and how other sites are in exactly the same position.

Everyone knows that outdated sonic fansites are more important than real life.

So basically the staff doesn't have any desire to update it is what you are all saying.

Yeah, you could say that.

A little of both on my end.

News only gets updated for years if I decide to check it. I don't have the time to spend to check and I'll admit I'm tired of being the only one to check, too. So, I update news for Knuckles Haven when I have time. After I've done Knuckles Haven, if I feel like it, I'll do it for Sonic HQ. Obviously, I haven't felt like doing it for Sonic HQ for awhile. ;p

Comic reviews are only going up if someone submits them. No one has done that in forever so it won't be updated. I stopped reviewing the comic when I first lost interest in it back around Sonic #150. While a change gave me a reason to give it another shot, I still have practically no interest in it beyond that I need to know some things to update Knuckles Haven and Sonic HQ; and I haven't read it at all since Sonic #178. When I have time I do update the comic archives on the site. However, I'm not scheduled to do so again until my February vacation (around President's Day). This vacation is devoted to working on Knuckles Haven.

I don't play the games that often, mostly as a result of Sega having games on a zillion different systems and I'm not buying (nor renting) stuff just to play all those games, especially when I know I'm not interested in many of them OR I'm not interested in enough other games on the system to make it worth me spending hundreds of dollars for 1 or 2 games. An example of that would be I'd love to get Sonic Rivals & Rivals 2 but I have no interest in a PSP as the games don't scream at me "must get." I do own and love Sonic Chronicles, which I'm trying to finish writing up for Knuckles Haven. Later on, just like I did for Sonic Battle (which I also loved), I'll update it for Sonic HQ as well.

I do have other responsibilities--mainly called a "job." My job allows me to easily pay for things such as the server that Sonic HQ is currently running on, but it doesn't leave me with a lot of time. I spend 7am to 5pm almost everyday working on my job. Then, I spend time at home doing stuff to prepare for my job almost every night. When I do have free time, I tend to need to take a break from thinking & working, and even though I don't mind working on my websites--it's still work. So, I'm not doing that with the majority of my free time. I spend it doing other things I like to do whether it's playing with my violin, watching sports/cartoons, viewing original art/fan art, or reading fiction/fan fiction, etc.

While the Archie comics and games do not necessarily inspire me to truly work on the site, there are a lot of things that need fixing that I do wish to fix. Then there are things that I'd like to accomplish, such as doing massive SatAM updates considering I have the entire series on DVD to work with now instead of just memory. I don't have all of AoStH or SU but I will soon and I'd like to work on that. I have the 4Kids version of Sonic X complete and I'd love to work on that as I was a fan of that anime (even if others were not). I do have some things I'm more than passionate about doing, but the time isn't there right now. I'm hoping (but it didn't work out last summer and considering my job and what NY state is doing I bet the same will happen this summer) I get to work during the summer on stuff, but I'm not going to guarantee it. Last summer showed me why.

I'll admit it doesn't help that I no longer go on messengers, nor do I visit here that often. If it wasn't Christmas/New Years break for me, I wouldn't be here now and I wouldn't have seen this thread. But I figure if someone really wants to tell/ask me something, they will email me. I do respond to those when I get the chance to check and I check at least once a week. I've explained myself a few times because some people do email me about Sonic HQ (and Knuckles Haven--but most people there know to read the topic I update occassionally with my status/plans, even if I don't stick to it as much as I'd like).

Looks like we need to pull in new people. Acrio doesn't count because he seems just as disinterested in Sonic as the rest of us.

I understand. I'm sure your life has gotten much busier over the years since you started working on the Sonic HQ site. I'm guessing you've been a staff member of it since the near beginning around 9 or 10 years ago?

The Sonic HQ should highlight what's crappy about sonic in a way that's subtley erotic and confusing to sensible people. Like what is all that happens at this board.

Actually I think Acrio had a better idea, he just said it in a way that's subtly confusing and erotic to sensible people.

Comic reviews? Just check the Archie subforum. They usually go under the title of spoilers but that's about as close to a review you'll get. Besides...I'm not sure many care about reviews for comics. If they did, people (aka me) might be willing to do them.

Holy Chris, we could just LINK those on the site :O

Oh, when I cared about updating the main page regularly, those topics were always linked there. However, I always only took reviews that people posted in the thread dedicated for reviews to be posted on Sonic HQ itself. It made life easy because going through a spoiler/discussion thread to pick out posts is time consuming--and time is precious to me. Up until around Sonic #154-155, that special thread was used, whether it is still around in Knothole or not. I believe that's what Techno is referring to when it comes to reviews on the site. While I have no clue how much better Yuku is compared to Ezboard (and personally don't care), the reviews that end up posted on the site will remain as long as the site remains. Reviews posted here are only here as long as Yuku doesn't lose stuff like Ezboard did.

My idea is just make SHQ a big archive place and then have the mofo. That's it. Maybe a news page. No reviews or anything. That's practically what the message board is for, I think. Just have a big "Archie Sonic Review Megathread" with discussion and the OP updated with new reviews, all user controlled. *shrugs*

I think that would make it much, much simpler.

SHQ and MMHQ need to be updated. Because one thing I do have is time and skills.
