You could just make your own post in MF Central if you want to announce your "new"-ness.

Personally, I don't care one way or the other. Of course, as I never make "intro" posts when I "join" a forum (unless it's required and I tend to avoid those like the plague), I'm the last person who'd ever advocate for the thread. People will get to know you (if one chooses to do so) based on your posting in areas where they post, not your introduction.
