I am a frequent user of a website called SMS for short, and it's webmaster, PorpoiseMuffins, did a write-up about what Sega could do if they wished with Sonic. Here's the link.
The Running Toward A Crossroads.
It might make some of you think a bit.
I started reading and finished. While it is true what he says. It's been a long time since SatAM aired. I'm not holding my breath for season 3 anymore (stopped doing that a while back) or for the SatAM Freedom Fighters to be featured in a game. US audience doesn't have much say in the games that come out of Japan. However, I do agree that the story in the games keeps getting lamer. Instead of bringing new characters and making more speedy or magical hedgehogs they should focus on Sonic and 'Buttnik and fixing the camera/glitches etc.
i disagreed with the comment about the newer SA design is too tall and "lanky" i actually think it looks better than anything sega has ever done with the design.
that said, i didn't read the whole article. i've read too many speculation articles or posts to really care anymore. if something official comes out then i'd read it. but other than that, i'm really tired of hearing some 40 year old talk about his opinions of sonic.
Actually, hypershadow77, the one who runs that site AND wrote the article is 20 years old...
i thought he said at one point that he was 40.

I am an over 40 and I still love Sonic
yeah it was the other guy, nevermind
I read the article, and I do agree with about 80% of what it says, so here are the things I beg to differ about:
-The idea that a Sonic movie is inevitable. That's unlikely. However, I would prefer a new series, perhaps SatAM-related, but not a straight-up SatAM season 3 either.
-The idea that Sonic and the Secret Rings is a step in the right direction, saying that less is more. I bought that game recently, and I think it is just awful. I do not see how anyone could think it's a step in the right direction, or that it's the best 3D Sonic game, simply because it puts the focus back on Sonic and his speed. There is far more to the series than that oversimplification. Less is not more, less equals a waste of my $40.
-The idea that the fact that Sonic Rush was a success means that there is an apetite for "classic" gameplay. I know where this is going: It's almost a suggestion to make a 2D Sonic game for the consoles. Such a game would not be a success. The 2D purist still craves such antiquated gameplay, but the mass consumer, which is like it or not, Sega's real target audience, doesn't have the same craving. Bottom line: Keep the 2D on the DS and PSP. And one more thing: The Sonic Rush games do not really carry the spirit of old-school Sonic, it is really just a contemporary series masquerading as something old-school by keeping it 2D. Sonic is a platformer with focus on platforming, good level design, item collecting and speed. It is not some amalglamation of Jet Grind Radio, time-trial racing, and convoluted roller-coasting, which is what Sonic Rush and SRA ultimately are.
-The suggestion that the series should try cel-shading. It's already been tried, in Sonic Shuffle, and it was terrible. It looked garish and unattractive. I also don't want to see a return to his original "Steamboat Willie" character design. There should be a design change, but it shouldn't become a complete face-lift.
-I believe he also suggested that the musical style should change. I agree that the travesty known as Rumblebee should be fired and forgotten, but I'd hate to see the loss of Jun and Johnny. And going back to the old Genesis music wouldn't be a great idea either. Maybe there can be a few contemporized track remixes here and there, but a step back to 16-bit techno would be bad.
-The notion that the story should be either changed or phased out. It does need change, but minimizing things back down to "Get the dastardly Dr. Robotnik!" would kill my interest above anything else. Oh, and they shouldn't hire Ian Flynn either. Nothing personal, I just don't want to see the series narrative turned into someone's esoteric fanfiction.
Whew...that 20% turned into some rant...
Whether or not something is fanfiction isn't a matter of opinion.
That still doesn't mean he should be hired to write the stories.
In my opinion, if they wanted a Satam like Cartoon, they should remake it and reintroduce it to the audience, tough I think that wouldnt be the same, The Satam cartoon is only a treasure cartoon for the fans, wich I have the pride to have got the dvd collection box.
I think most people look back on whatever show they grew up watching with the proverbial 'rose colored glasses' on.

so you'd want someone who calls themselves a proffessional writer but has never even heard of sonic to write it instead of a fan of said comic?
Ben Hurst was a professional writer who had never even heard of Sonic before he was introduced and started writing stoies.
It may seem that I'm putting my SatAM fanboy cap on right now, but there is merit in what I'm trying to suggest. An outsider with no prior experience with a franchise could benefit said francise as much as a fan taking the reigns. An outsider can offer a fresh perspective, whereas a fan has their own ideas, which can potentially turn the narrative into something too esoteric to survive.
you do have a point i suppose, but it's not like ian is running things into the ground. he's been doing a pretty good job so far anyway.
Romy Chacon for SatAM movie!
There's no way in a million years it'll be in the same canon, but there more than a few elements they could use from SatAM that very much had a good formula going.
Romy Chacon for SatAM movie!
I'm fully aware that this is a joke, but if that ever does happen I will permanently renounce my status as a Sonic fan.
