I compiled a list to see how many appearances characters have on the covers of Archie #1-173. I thought the results were interesting:
Winner, obviously, with 171 appearances: Sonic
Second place, 49: Sally
Close third, 48: Tails
Here's the rest:
21; Original Robotnik
20; Knuckles
17; Rotor
15; Bunnie and Shadow
12; Antoine
11; Current Eggman
10; Amy
8; Mina, Julie-Su, Uncle Chuck
7; Geoffrey
5: Ixis Naugus
All other characters have fewer than 5 appearances on an Archie Sonic cover. (The numbers may not be perfect... don't eat me for it).
Let me know your reactions to this list! Excepted someone to have more? Less?
Personally, I think that Shadow should have had less, and Knuckles to have more. It's weird how there is such a big gap between Sonic and the others, and then Sally/Tails and the others.
Is Shadow the only one besides Sonic who has had the whole cover to himself? You know, issue 146? (I'm not counting the little Sonic logos on each cover.)
Sonic wasn't on issue #20 (it was just a statue or him) or issue #157.
I didn't count the Sega logo as being on a cover, and I did count the little box in the upper left of the first issues that sometimes featured characters.
So, with that said, then yes, Shadow is the only character other than Sonic who had the cover to himself.
Nifty. Did your tally factor in 2 of Ant's appearance (137 and 156) being Patch?
I hope Chuck gets s'more appearances. I rather like him.
