mmm... A back up story featuring you favorite characters. Knowing Archie, it will probably be Tommy Turtle.

I always knew Eggman was French.

That Sonic X plot actually sounds pretty god. Neo Yi is gonna freak when she hears Big the Cat is in that issue. Looks like Evil Sonic will stay in the prime world as a new/changed character. I don't know if I like that or not.

I think this is a good idea, although I don't like his name that much.

The best part about this is that it eliminates the need for us ever to have Anti-Mobius stories ever again, without disregarding the established continuity.

I'm not too sure about freaking out, but I am happy. When I get the time (and when #8 appears) I should look into it.
As for #161, I got nothing to say except..."Scourge?" Yeesh.

..I hate quick reply...

Shot version Scourge looks like bad plot point mirroring Chaos Knuckles(TM) Is he faster than the two hedgehogs we have now? Ugh better last one issue.

And: 15 years? ::Man , remember's #10 like yesterday::

Scourge is Evil Sonic, DL. Therefore, he's probably just about as fast as Sonic.

However, I'm assuming that that's dye we're seeing, not some kind of super form or Chaos effect

The cover for 161 doesnt look to bad but I prefer Spazs earlier covers, but again not bad.

The story sounds interesting I wonder whom the long lost Badnik is? Maybe its Scratch or Grounder from AOSTH but upgraded and deadly then ever, although I doubt it more likely its going to be Heavy or Bomb. Shadows on the Cover does this mean hes going to be in it?

Scratch what I said before about dye. Guess I didn't read close enough. Seems Scourge is green because of a Master Emerald encounter. Must be similar to Green Knuckles after all.

Let's say this badnik that's coming back is Cocoanuts. Who hear besides me remembers that disclosed list of plots left behind by Bollers before he left? For those of you who do, then you know what I'm getting at. As for Scourge, I can't say I saw this coming. Not the most original name, but at least it's better than Super-Evil Sonic.

It doesn't necessary have to be a super-powered form of Evil. I'm hoping that he just mutated to another colour due to Emerald exposure or something.

The chosen colour of green for "Scourge" might be a nod to a glitch from Sonic 2, the Sonic "Ashura" glitch.

If you're in Emerald Hill, have debug on, and place a load of Waterfalls, Sonic's palette will become screwed up [it being accidentily overwritten with another section of palette], causing Sonic to become Green and Black, like Scourge with his black coat.

Once the story appears, I'm sure Ian or another person will pop up and explain his designs :)

I absolutely hate the look of Scourge. It's like a palette-swap characters from a chessy sprite comic. Plus, with that jacket, he looks kinda like one of the village people. Only green. This is one issue I might just pass. Don't Sonic and the gang have real eyelids? Thier iris's have thier own eyelids!

Sonic X on the other hand seems to have a decent plot, and a GREAT cover. Very humorous. Who's taking the pic? Bokkun?

You seem to be overlooking the fact that the character was even LESS than a palette-swap before, and he's always had a leather jacket.

I agree with Hiro in that I'm not so sure about "Scourge" being made. If it's more like Evil's super form, then fine, but if it's more permanent like when the Super Emerald caused Sonic to gain his SA look and he stays in Mobius Prime, then I'm not to crazy about it though I think Scourge looks cool.

If it's permanent, that will make 5 hedgies(excluding Jules, Bernie, and Chuck)-Sonic, Amy, Rob 'o' the Hedge, Shadow, and now Scourge, that are in action. I ask, and I know what the answer will probably be, do we really need that many hedgies? Anyway, the covers for both issues are cool but especially the Sonic X one what with Eggy's glasses having that shine.

As far as Scourge being faster than Sonic, whether he's just temporarily super-charged or permanently ME-empowered, he will most likely be faster than Sonic and maybe even Shadow.

i'm guessing it's permanent.

it's kind of good, because we don't need two sonics running around.

But what has happened to the Master Emerald because of this? Has it been absorbed into Evil Sonic or not. I honestly don't want this to be another get-the-emerald-back-before-the-floating-island-sinks plot.

I also believe this may be a super form of Evil Sonic as there are differences between him and those that mutated. Dimittri became Enerjak by artificial means using the Chaos Syphon to drain the 11 emeralds of their power and into his body, but the syphon overloaded and he was caught in an explosion. Mammoth Mogul had a Chaos Emerald become physically embedded into his body which aside from granting him his powers would have altered his morphology due to the initial purpose of the Xorda's gene bomb. Knuckles obtained his green form because of the genetic experiments Locke did on himself before impregnating Lara-le and then bathed Knuckles' egg in Chaos radiation while his body was still forming. This explained why he hatched so quickly and his real knuckles/claws are evidence as Locke pointed out that he was at least physically a mutant because of the process. All that was needed was a reaction of great force to serve as a catalyst, like the explosion in the Albion science lab when General De'Coolette broke free, and Knuckles then looked liked Dimitri right after his change. Those two had the most similar conditions except for the difference in the amount of time it took for the changes to happen.

I would expect Scourge to be even more powerful than Super Sonic as well since the Master Emerald is really composed of 14 emeralds and 7 emeralds are needed to transform once. I would also bet that if this is a super form, then it will be temporary just as Sonic pointed out in #126. Just how long it would be because this is the Master Emerald and not a regular one is another story though.

"Scourge" ( it was about time someone gave him a better than Evil Sonic)looks cool expecially those scars in his chest that Knuckles gave him (at least I suspect that Knux gave it to him since it looks like Knux's knuckles marks). Could use some other colors like yellow or blue besides. As for the old badnik maybe it could be one the sub bosses from the games. The story sound great Ian :thumbsup . BTW where did the name Scourge come from?

"Scourge" (not Sourge) means "illness," or "great disaster."

Some people are thinking the name doesn't fit him, but LBD had a point that Evil Sonic gives himself the name. Now, you know that Evil Sonic is full of himself, so he would give himself an exagerated, all-powerful name such as "Scourge." Another point was that the "S" letter indicates super-fast hedgehogs, such as Sonic and Shadow.

Wow, those covers are amazing, other than the eye mistake. The Sonic X cover is ingenious, probably the best cover ever in a Sonic comic.

And why is Evil Sonic not called Ashura? That would be so cool... my best guess is that Ian wanted to name him Ashura but got overruled, possibly due to the mythological origins of the name. Or maybe the color scheme is a coincidence. But having a character based on a glitch would just be so unbelievably hip and tongue-in-cheek, especially as a way to not only remake a crappy character but also to remove the evil dimension from future stories.

While I suspect Spaz had Ashura at the back of his mind when designing certain elements of Scourge, I can't really speak for the visual look alike.

As for the name, two reasons it's "Scourge:"

1) As previously guessed, it sticks with the "S"-name theme.

2) More importantly (to me, anyway) was I didn't want to "steal" from a fan-creative. While it's arguable that Ashura has become kind of public domain, I did correspond with the "owner" of Ashura many years ago. I know somebody put thought and spirit into the creation, and to me that lays more claim to the character than any copyright. I'm not about to use anybody's stuff - fan-made or otherwise - so I didn't even consider using the "Ashura" name.

I was born and bred on the Sonic fandom. I'm not about to go betraying that. Even if Ashura - the actual character himself - would've been awesome to write =P

This kind of "new" for archie though I believe they did this is in SatAM (can't remember). I think it is some classic animation thing. With Sonic's eyelids, it seems like everyone makes up their own design for it. In Archie Sonic's eyelids has changed color from blue, to tan, and to white. In Sega it has change from blue (classic), to tan (SA1), and back to blue (SA2).

Not quite. They've been tan since Sonic 1. Only more recently has the color been changed to blue, and it wasn't in SA2.

Wrong. Sonic's eyelids were definitely a fleshy color in the original games - it wasn't until Sonic R (because he never closes his eyelids in 3D, IIRC, and Xtreme never came out) that he had blue eyelids, and it was right back to the fleshy color with Adventure, which it remained until Sonic X came around and changed it for no particularly good reason.

Not like it really matters, but whatever.

He's had those eyelashes since almost the beginning of the comic. Anytime Sonic blinked, his eyelashes displayed like those. Take a look.

I can't believe what I'm hearing. First everyone whines about him being a clone of Sonic, then when they do something to fix that, everyone whines that he's a recolor. What's it gonna take to make you people happy? I for one am thrilled at this idea. The Anti Sonic was always one of my favorite villains, and one of my complaints was how he was never used well, or given anything to set him apart from Sonic. I can't wait for this issue Ian. As for the so called "charge" from the ME, I doubt it's a super form. For one, he doesn't even look like a super form, and two, why go through all the trouble of remaking him to have it be a 1 story deal? It's just a simple color change, nothing more. Just a way of setting him apart from his counterpart. I take this to mean Scourge is here to stay, which makes me grin ear to ear. I just hope more people will learn to appreciate the plot twist.
