I mean if DC can do it with the likes of Warner Brothers, then why can't Archie and Sega do it with DIC or some other animation studio.

I mean you look at what Warners and DC are doing with the Death of Superman story and the Justice league story The New Fontier among others as welll as what Marvel has done with Ultimate Avengers, Iron Man as among others over there, you think Archie along with Sega would get the idea.

I mean if you need a dark dramatic story in the Sonic Comic Unerivse that has pently of Action as well as twist and surprises, then ENDGAME would be the one to choose to adapt into a feature length feature, even if was Direct-To-DVD.

But then here is the question, are they afiard that a movie adaption of any kind of the Sonic Comic, depending on the fact that the stories in the comic have been darker at times then others and possibly knowing that fans have seen how dark the Saturday Morning series was times as well, that perhaps their worried that if they make it too dark or in a way that the fans would want to see presented, that maybe their worried that the MPAA after it is shown to them, could possibly give it a PG-13 rating .

Sure they probably realize that a PG would be most likely, but don't you think that could be one of the many reasons a story like ENDGAME has not been into a movie, hmm..I wonder?

The huge difference is that EVERYONE knows Superman, you can release a Superman straight to DVD movie and have an audience, wether or not it's the continuation of a 4 season cartoon with a 5 season spin-off.

Archie, no currently circulating cartoon. No public awareness. There's no audience for it.

The costs of a DVD far surpass that of a comic, so it would logically need to sell far more than the comic does and it can only do that if it has a target audience larger than those who buy the comics.

What Craig said.

... Wait, what? An Endgame movie? I'm sorry, but that little peice of Archie Sonic history ain't exactly something most people who've read that arc would want to relive(myself included). Endgame was an unholy alchemic beast of bad writing, bad editorial planning & Sega's karma. :D Sure, Super Special #6 fixed loose ends that erupted from the arc, but seriously... Endgame? >.< Plus people who started reading the book post-Endgame and beyond would say stuff like, "WTF where's Eggman?!"

If they just cleaned up some of the plotlines and knew when to focus on emotional stuff Endgame could be a pretty good story. The changes I'd make are this:
-- Show a glimpse of Knothole at the beginning to introduce people to the story
-- Kill Sally (Let's be honest, there wouldn't be a sequal)
-- Drop the Crocbot/Downunda stuff
-- Explain the Ultimate Annihalator...clearly
-- Highlight Snively's treachory, highlight Drago mistreating Lupe
-- Ending: Sonic saved the world, but lost the love of his life

I don't think Sega would really want to allow this story to be made into a movie. People would see the movie and ask Sega "I just saw the new Sonic movie, will Robotnik be in future games?" "But in the Sonic Movie, they killed Robotnik! How did he come back?" "Where's Antonie and Rotor in the games?" Questions like that.

Also, the thing was already brought up that a Sonic movie wouldn't draw in the largest crowd. He's a well known video game icon, sure, but his popularity isn't that great at the moment.

PG-13 for dark parts? The worst that happens to a hero is the Princess-in-a-coma bit. Snow White managed that with a G rating over 50 years ago.
Endgame was OK for the time it was releashed, but I cannot imagine it on the big screen ever. For the same reasons Craig and co. stated: it would cost too much, the mainstream audience isn't there, and some plot points were confusing.

I actually enjoyed "Endgame." The fact that Sally lived made up for any flaws, in my eyes. Sally is one of the comic's greatest strengths, IMO. Of course a number of things could have been done better, like being back Sally in a better way and coming up with a better explaination for Sonic being framed. I agree that a movie of it is likly not to happen, and that I wouldn't want to revisit it either.

As far as being dark, Miss Purr, remember Hersley being abused by her now ex-boyfriend?

Spoken like someone who's never been on the receiving end of the situation (and this is me speaking as someone who has)... :-/

I still remember being shocked and rather impressed that we saw as much of that as we did on-panel, given the target demographic. That was some very dark stuff.

As I've said before: I'm mildly surprised that, now that Hershey's happily married, we haven't seen the after effects of that or some coming to terms with it rear its head at some point (particularly after Dulcy went through something similar, which was swiftly buried).

But I wonder if, like the gun death in The Shot Heard 'Round the World, that's something that the comic's current sensibilities just don't want to deal with.

You're talking to a guy who was stabbed in the eye with a fork by the girl who "loved me", because of a stupid arguement.

Ouch.

*hugs*

Sorry... I've never been able to be one of those people who takes giggly emoticons and abusive behaviour (without going into detail) together - I suppose it's still an old raw spot.

People, let's face it. Sega is never going to let Archie make a movie. That's assuming Archie would even want to, since they rejected Ken Penders' idea for a Knuckles the Echidna cartoon/animated movie with characters from the comics.
