And this time, rather than a new comic, we get a reprint of Sonic the Hedgehog #1 with an updated version of the original #1 cover by Spaz!

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG #1FCBD 2008 EDITION

by Mike Gallagher & Dave Manak

Sonic the Hedgehog has been speeding his way through video games, TV, and comic books since 1992! He is undoubtedly one of the biggest cultural icons throughout the world. Now, Archie Comics is paying homage to the blue blur by taking us back to where it all began. With the overwhelming success and popularity of the Sonic Archives reprint series, we are proud to bring you a reprint of the first-ever Sonic comic from the ongoing series: Sonic The Hedgehog #1! In honor of this years Free Comic Book Day, Archie is re-releasing the classic stories from this prized issue, but with a special bonus: the cover will be completely re-imagined with a modern spin by current Sonic artist, SPAZ!

Awesome cover by Spaz!

By the way, is this the recolored version of Sonic #1 by Jensen? I hope so!

That cover is really cool. It makes me quite nostalgic. I still remember seeing the cover for the first time as a little kid...

However I don't think the first issue represents the current state of the comic at all. People are going to pick this up and either A: ) Decide they want to stay away from Sonic's wacky antics or B: ) Decide they want to try out the Sonic comic but then find no wacky Antics in it.

Gotta agree with MD, as much as I absolutely love the colour, I don't think this issue was the best choice for what's basically a chance for Archie to giveaway free promotions.

That being said, as someone who doesn't need the comic to be promoted to him? The comic is freaking sweet. It's almost like a celebration of the comic's 15th anniversary.

Would of been sweet if Spaz! updated the visuals on the inside, too.

Such a wonderfully perverse contrast of style and substance.
