I'm pretty sure there's already a topic about this... somewhere. But yeah, I'm definitely getting it.
WE'RE SONIC HEROES!
I liev in the middle of nowhere that's why I have my wonderful subscription. I need to find a way to get my hands on one of these.
eBay.
Not glamorous, but functional.
Or free. Which kind of defeats the purpose. But if you simply have to have it...
Basically, Archie is actually doing a free Sonic comic this year for the annual Free Comic Book Day event in May. Personally, I'm waiting until about May 2nd/3rd and then I'll be calling around the comic shops near me (or that I'm willing to travel to) to see who has it. Whoever has it, is where I'll be going. That's when I'll see if I have to catch up via online shopping or at the "lucky" comic shop. ;p
Free Comic Book Day has a lot of good titles this year. I'm gonna have to try and con my LCS into letting me buy some.
I have a question:
If you don't pick up this book, will you miss something crucial to the storyline?
Any answers appearciated.
Probably not. There's been no mention of the plot therein having anything to do with what's happening in the comic now or in the past. The cover says it's an all-new story, and the blurb appears to imply nothing earth-shattering will take place, simply a straight set-up and fight with Metal Sonic. Since this is a comic being made and distributed for a day that is supposed to entice non-readers to pick up the book, having something steeped with 10+ years of continuity would be a bit of a turn-off.
Though there's nothing precluding it from being accepted as canon otherwise, simply saying it was a quick fight that took place in the near past between story arcs would suffice, and Ian may even take the opportunity to use the story to explain certain details about Metal in general.
... well, it's free so you probably shouldn't expect much, all the same.
free in america, perhaps. the comic shops over here seem to have a very limited stock of good freebies on free comic book day.
i think this is mainly because they have to pay for the comics themselves. >>; either way, i'm not getting my hopes up to find a free copy of this.
That's if you can even find one stocking Archie Sonic, as well, Becca.
Although my local one does, so it may be worth seeing if they have any freebies going.
If you missed it, try going to a local comic book store and asking if they have any leftovers from Free Comic Book Day. I went to mine and fortunately they still had lots of copies of free comics from FCBD despite it being, according to them, the best turnout they've had so far.
Anyway, this issue was really great. It only reaffirms my opinion that they shouldn't divide almost every issue into two separate stories. Doing that when it's necessary is fine, but for the most part I feel the stories just aren't as good as they could have been if they had the full issue to tell them.
Speaking of free comic book day, when I got my issue of Sonic #174 from Impalse Creations a free issue of Archie Kids came with it.
