SONIC THE HEDGEHOG ENTER BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS
Archie Comics would like to announce that Sonic the Hedgehog has been was recognized by Guinness World Records as the longest running comic series based on a video game.
From the 2008 Guinness World Records: Gamer's Edition "LONGEST-RUNNING COMIC SERIES BASED ON A VIDEO GAME The longest-running comic series based on a video game is the American Sonic the Hedgehog Published by Archie Comics. It has now been running for 14 years and over 180 monthly issues having first appeared in July 1993."
Starting two years after the release of the first video game in 1991 for the Sega Genesis. Sonic the Hedgehog features a combination of characters and storylines from the games and cartoons, mixed with original characters and stories. The Sonic games continuity is an intricate part of the comics, each new game is incorporated into the story of the comic. Sonic and the Secret Rings included a free comic made by Archie Comics specifically for the game and both Sonic Chronicles and Sonic Unleashed will be included in the comic. In 2009 Sonic will continue to reach new milestones with the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 200th issue.
The comic made it into GWR. Cool stuff! I knew there was a good outcome for not selling all the comics XD
Wow. That's pretty neat. Considering that Sonic was also the first video game character to be seen in a Rose Parade and Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, Sonic has a lot of firsts.

How many comic series based on video games are out there, anyway?

I really think Archie Comics and the GBOWR, have made a major mistake. About Archie Comics being the longest running comic series based on a video game!? Last time I looked Archie Comics as right now has 190 issue's and Fleetway Comics (Not counting the online, Sonic Comic) ran for 223 issue's. I think the GBOWR, better triple check to see if they got all of their facts right on this!?

"longest running comic series based on a video game."
>.>
Meaning duration or time span, not # of issues.
Well, actually it's right on both points, since A) UKian comics published more frequently at this point and B) StC was forced into reprints at the end of issue 184 or 185 I think.
Thats way past cool! I may just have to get a copy of the new Guinness Book of World Records!!
So is this article only in the Gamer's Edition or is it in the regular GBWR too?
