The correct response is "lol wut?" What do you think, guys... chance in Hell?
this is just rediculous. why??????? why doesn't anyone let the show freaking die? it's like it's been a vegetable for the last 10 years and it should rightly be put to death
Well, we're taking it with careful optimism. A Grain of Salt, so to speak.
While admittedly, this is one of the better chances we've had at a possible Resurrection of the series. He's a Professional, who knows the business fairly well. His plan isn't really to 'bring about Season 3' but more 'relaunch' the series, in a manner that'll be acceptable to hardcore SatAM fans, like myself, but still meet the needs of today's more modern market.
To call it a vegetable for 10 years is kinda.. yeah. There's been news every year on it, sometimes good. Sometimes bad. For example, we got the DVD set last year, and some peoples interests were piqued in it. I would call it more like a CANNED Vegetable. Like, you know, that one last can of carrots in the cupboard you take out, look at, but don't really make because you'd need two cans? It still gets taken out and looked at occasionally, but never really opened.
We perhaps hope to open this can of Vegetables, this time! Or, maybe the Can Opener will break, and we don't. There is no harm in trying. 🙂
I'm down with this. I don't think it'll happen, but hey. The SatAM boxset saw sunlight...
Say it succeeds and SatAM is revived. Sega requires the characters to resemble their modern designs, and thus it is so. The uberfans call heresy and forever view it as a blemish on the good name of SatAM. "They ruined the look of the show!" - Because you know how even the slightest thing can cause outrage amongst hardcore fans.
I have my doubts (And distaste considering I never liked SATAM) but good luck...
I for one would like to see an updated version of SatAM. Maybe a few new elements, and a revised plot, but I just want to see the series come back! It doesn't even have to be a continuation of the old one: just give me the Freedom Fighters and possibly Ixis Naugus back and I'll be happy.
Well, if this is going to get done then it's going to have to be a reboot, no question. Keep some of the old cast, villains and concepts but establish new designs, new plots, new relationships, new villains. With writing that gives a sly nod to the Sonic of old while blazing a new trail into the future. Stay far away from Flash animation.
Of course people are going to complain if things change to much. But change they shall, keeping too many ties to the old animation would only be a detriment. New VAs would pretty much be mandatory (Spike Spencer as Tails! ... j/k).
Do we keep the "striking back at Robotnik's tyranny with terrorist attacks rebel strikes" or will that need to be changed? How menacing will the Doc actually be? Remember, Sega needs to approve this if it ever gets the go ahead, and if strays too far from Eggman-sama and Let's Go On A Sonic Adventure! there could be trouble.
But I digress... the mind races with the possibilities but right now it simply wouldn't do getting your hopes up. There's a slew of obstacles to contend with before this would ever get off the ground.
I very much doubt the likelyhood of this, but could it happen, then I would wish for a Transformers: Animated of the SatAM mythos.
That program has been a shining light in a bleak black cesspit of recent animation of the franchise....
No!
Let it rest. It had it's run, it was fun, but that was over a decade ago and I really don't want a revival on a franchise that's basically hurting in almost every aspect (minus the Comics)
It was a different time back then, and if fans are going to expect the same show they knew back then, are going to be disappointed.
my god, the general populace understands!! *tear* seriously when i saw that this topic had 7 other replies i figured my opinion would've been borderline flamed.
The only problem with bringing back or rehashing sat am woukld be to find a way to incorporate all of the new Sega & archie characters I mean toquit a few sonic fans today to have a show without KNUX AMY & SHADOW would be a sin, not to mention they would have to get a decent budget for multiple season if they want to pretty much make an animated version of the archie comic (Which I myself would love.) But then some SATAM Fans might get mad, frankly i thought the series could have always used a dash of old KNUX even back in the day.
As I said on the thread, I am not gettng my hopes up. I think it does speak well of the show, that it has a special place in some people's hearts that they would want it back even after all these years. The show didn't get a proper ending, in some fans minds. If( a big if here) by chance it does come back I would want the characters and their friendships/relationships to be done justice. That is what would make me nervous. Also, I probably wouldn't want too many Sega elements(except probably Knux and maybe a few other things), because IMO, it is Sega that has damaged Sonic's reputation. Sega may have created Sonic, but Sat a.m. made him better. I don't want things to change too much, it bad enough that Archie went too far away from Sat a.m. I'll be satisfied if Archie got back to, and stayed with, as much of a Sat a.m. style as possible. It is sad, and a pity, that Sega and Archie weren't more accepting of Sonic Sat a.m. more fans would probably be too if they were, and I believe things would be better. It is hard, for me, to read people say things, about something I loved, that it is old and should just die. Yes, I know I shouldn't care what people think but it still bothers me, even though I would be fine is Sat a.m. never came back(as long as thing work out in Archie). I do believe that Ian has brought things closer to what the comic should be, like bringing back the old freedom fighter dymanic as much as possible.
Since we're on the topic of SatAM, I had a bit of Fridge Logic the other day.
I was thinking about SatAM for one reason or another, and I got to thinking about Robotnik's way of speaking. I'm well aware that his speech pattern was to show just how cunning, cold, and evil he was. Now, I'm probably the only one who thinks this but, I couldn't help but think that it sounds like he's trying to seduce someone. Or even sometimes like he's turned on. With that in mind, I don't think I'll ever be able to take SatAM Robotnik seriously again.
Advance apologies to anyone who might be scarred by this post.
Julian is voiced by Winnie the Pooh.
He's a silly ol' bear.
And Tigger too.
Doesn't stop him from sounding like he's turned on, though.
I haven't taken that model of Robotnik seriously since Sonic Underground...
I very much doubt the likelyhood of this, but could it happen, then I would wish for a Transformers: Animated of the SatAM mythos.
That program has been a shining light in a bleak black cesspit of recent animation of the franchise....
Agreed on both counts. I'd love to see a new cartoon designed like the comics, with an even mix of SatAM and SEGA elements and characters.
Although the concept presented on the FUS forums sounds lame. Adult Swim? ...Who the Hell thought that'd be a good idea?
I would love to see the SatAM series resurrected. If these plans go through (which would be like winning the lottery or getting struck by lightning.) the original show will be over 20 years old by the time the new show airs. Wouldn't there be a generation gap? Hmmm... The Star Trek TV series comes to mind. The show should be called SatAM: The Next Generation.
Is this real?
The delusional animator? Yes, yes he is.
It sounded really Kuta-esque at first. I would have preferred an anime company to have a go at it, but if this guy is really interested in it, I wish him luck. Hopefully, a lot more thought is put into it than recent attempts at a revival. Also, if he does adapt it from the original and/or the Archie universe, please cut out a lot of the fat and stick with what's been important with both.
If this does go foward, for Primus's sake, I hope there are more locales than Knothole or Robotropolis.
ME too, hopefully they'll at least add Angel Island & Downunda, (Wouldn't mind seeing places like Station Square, Tundra, & casinopolis either.)
Felt compelled to post here, as there seems to be a lot of animosity towards "that delusional animator"
Oh hey, that's me! ^-^
If you want to know more about why I'm doing this, go here:

It's a crazy-jay-whing-dang-doodle of a mess ever since i posted the pitch news. Some positive, some negative. I was just a little stunned at the negativity on this board.
This board is pretty cynical about Sonic in general right now...
Animator X? Hmmmm, that isn't a trustworthy name at all. I think he's a robot and he's out to destroy us *nods sagely*
As far as the franchise as a whole goes, I think that most posters here've been with the franchise for a long time and seen plenty of reasons to get cynical over the years. As far as SatAM in particular goes, I suspect that we've got some well-embedded fatigue from Rich Kuta and Ken Penders persistently telling ego-stroking fairytales about the exact same prospect.
I'm another person who doesn't see how it can work outside the US in the post-SA environment, let alone after so much time has elapsed and so many of the cast've moved on. I'd respect dedication and persistence if it were ever to happen - I just require seeing it actually happen first.
I've never been a fan of SatAM, but I have to give you my moral support and well wishes.
The reason I'd be cynical is because the news is that you have the chance to pitch the idea. Last time someone did that Sega simply said "Ok, so how are you paying for it?", so I see no reason why fans should be all prepared to celebrate when you've only mentioned pitching the idea to Sega who have once before blown it off.
From what I understand, though, your pitch is far more proffessional than the previous attempt, with art work and a "bible" of sorts, and for that I feel you are at least passionate about the idea and once again wish you all the luck in the world.
Just not going to get excited over a meeting which may take place a whole year from now and amount to "sorry guys, I tried".
...
Yeah. This is Sonic HQ. We're jaded fellas here. You should see how we reacted to the announcement of the new Sonic game.
if this show does come to the light of day...Which im guessing is probably like a 10% chance right now if even that, Id love to see the dark legion in it, (Seeing Dimitri lien-da & Fini animated would be enough to make me explode from excitment.)
I think Aaron Dismuke would be a good Tails. And I can totally see Paul Dobson as Robotnik, possibly Richard Cox as Sonic, and David Kaye (in his Sesshomaru voice) as Knuckles.
Richard cox, Id rather get Jallel White back but I doubt that i'll happen, I think that they should get Alison Lohman to play the voice of sally. & shaun connery would make a good voice for mammoth mougel,to bad he doesn't do cartoons.
Well Kath Soucie (sp?) is still doing voice work, so it's possible she could come back as Sally. She recently did a roll in the new Transformers Animated series.
Tara Strong would make a good Amy.
shaun connery would make a good voice for mammoth mougel,to bad he doesn't do cartoons.
Actually, Connery voiced Athair in Sonic Underground; unless, you mean he doesn't do cartoons any more.
Connery's been retired for a good 3 years now thanks to League of Extrordinary Gentlemen, he officially stated that the only movie even remotely capable of removing him from retirement would have been Indy IV and we all know he wasn't in there.
Let the poor guy have his rest, he's the man now dog.
I wish you the best on your SATAM revival efforts Matt. But I'm not jumping for joy just yet. The last time someone "pitched" a SATAM revival of sorts, they played the whole sonic community as a fool. So forgive me if I am alittle bit skeptic towards this new attempt to revive SATAM.
Again I wish you the best. Good luck.
Well, Wiki said he voiced the title charater in a short called "Sir Billi the Vet." Of course, I have no idea when that was or what it is and may be a moot point, but meh.
I think Aaron Dismuke would be a good Tails.
I'm sure the kid's past puberty now. I agree he would have made a good Tails though.
... Vic Mignogna as Sonic ftw!
shaun connery would make a good voice for mammoth mougel,to bad he doesn't do cartoons.

really i had know idea i haven't seen much of underground though....I guess he might be willing to be mougel then, as for him being old, so what chers almost 70 & she still sings, as long as someones doing what they love it should'nt matter, of course connery may not enjoy voice acting as much as some other stars do. .....anyway i also agree that tara strong would be a good amy, i think the 4kids voice for her is to whiny, as for Knuckles Im thinking.....NICOLAS CAGE.....(I CAN DREAM DARN IT) Comr to think off it Kira Knightly would make a lovely voice for rouge the bat.......It would be......"Soothing".
I ADMIT NOTHING!!!
(lol)
... Vic Mignogna as Sonic ftw!
Vic can sing the opening theme, because he is manly like that.
really i had know idea i haven't seen much of underground though
To tell you the truth, I never watched Underground, never could find the dern show, at all, but I learned about Sean Connery playing Athair when I read Athair's Wiki profile a while back ago.
Good Luck, Animator X!
I have cocoted the ultimate list of actors & actresses(In my openion) Too play the voices of the characters its kinada long...so.
The FF
Sonic-Jallel White
No stop, I'm sorry but, Ultimate and Jallel White DOES NOT COMPUTE! LOL
And Shia's too old for Tails.
And Dolly Parton for Bunnie. WTF?
And Shia's too old for Tails.
And Dolly Parton for Bunnie. WTF?
.......Yea sorry about that, that was the caffine talking.....gotta stop drinking so many soadas, anywho gammarallyson you do know that white has played the voice of sonic in every U.S. made sonic cartoon don't you?
Well, yeah, but that dosn't mean he's good for the part. Young Urkel me lad grates me too.
True, I like hin though
(Note i have editited out my shame....But ya gotta admit it would be funny to see big being voiced by Mr.T)
Big: Give me back my frog fool!
eggman:wtf???
Oh please, Big can only ever be voiced by the Duke.
Most of you have been exceptionally courteous, kind, creative, intelligent, and thoughtful.
But I have also received some very heinous, very nasty comments in private, in public, and on many other websites, public and private alike. People would be nice to my face, then turn right around and badmouth me for my efforts. And I've even had one instance of a fan wishing me death. No, I'm not afraid, but this is a sign of much bigger things. My time isn't worth fighting fans tooth and nail when I already had such a monumental task in front of me.
I asked myself if it was worth it to soldier on. And I came to the conclusion that...no, it isn't. It's just a TV show that is well past its prime, and perhaps I was foolish to think this would work. I didn't come here to impress anyone. I didn't come here to claim I had all the answers. I only had a notion which seemed to be on the right track, judging from the phenomenal response on this board.
I'm not mad at any of you. Just a little wiser and more aware of the state of things. And I'm sorry. Those of you who didn't want the show to come back will obviously be satisfied, and those of you who had high hopes may be upset. Whatever the case, please don't blame each other. Please don't flame the board or deluge Rocky or the other moderators to play the blame game. It's no one's fault but my own. And if you feel I've wasted your time, I am sorry for that as well. And Rocky, I'm sorry for all the effort you've given to me that is now going to waste.
Goodbye everyone. I wish you all well.
So...I guess that is it then? The revival is cancelled? Or not?
