Last time I heard he was 16 but that was before his little space adventure back in the late 120's. He must be at least 17 if not 18 now.
I was under the impression that he's now 18.
i thought he was 17, as the year 'jump' applied to everyone but him. (or am i mis-remembering?)
As was put at one point, let's just call him a teen from now till forever.
17 sounds about right. It's quite easy to envision two years between #68 and #160 - including the one-year gap - which would make Sonic 17, a year behind everyone else.
Just because he didn't experience that whole year doesn't mean his body didn't age. Seriously, other than maybe a gray hair or two and the whole drivers license thingy (depending on your situation and location), did anyone notice a physical difference in your body between the years 17 and 18?
Questern, you are missing the theory of relativity. The passage of time is all relative to where you are. According to Sonic's time, he was gone from home for only a couple of weeks (iirc). Where as on Mobius, a whole year passed.
It probably doesn't matter how old he is...25 years into the future, he'll still look the same.
Well, Sonic's probably going to the be the same age (or at least look the same age) since he doesn't technically age in the games. He'll pretty much remain 15/16 (again, if only in looks), depending on who you ask.
he's 17 now. they celebrated his 16th birthday in i forget which issue, and number 17 happened when evil sonic became Scourge
I don't want Sonic to be a teenager forever, I didn't like how they seemed to age everyone a year but Sonic. It was like they were holding Sonic back. My problem with Sonic in M25YL was that, besides being selfish and ungrateful, he still had a teenager's mentiality. I don't mind if they age him, in every way, slowly as long as Sonic shows some growth and changes for the better by the time the comic book ends(whenever that happens), though I don't mind if Sonic considers himself young at heart as long as he acts more mature. As for how old Sonic is now in the comic, I would consider him 17, or he should be, since he has had two birthdays in the comic(his sixteenth was in Sonic #6 .
That's the thing with Sonic; he's never lost that rather juvenile, rebellious attitude that comes with being who he is. Sure, it may annoy the heck out of us, and I didn't see much point to him spending a year away from everyone other than to set the stage for plot developments that would have taken too long otherwise, but that's just who Sonic is. Sonic can be responsible and mature; he just doesn't want to be. It takes a major catastrophe or something similar to get him to act like an adult, and even most of those don't really dent his spirit.
Oy, the whole theory of relativity and different amounts of time passing thing is old and irritating. A friend of mine and I have a routine for when we talk about those kinds of things: we put our hands on our heads and say in a pseudo-pained voice "AW, BRAIN HURTS!" Sonic's probably about 17, though he acts like he's 7.
That is what is so frustrating about Sonic, Spectre, he can step up and be the man when needed but then he goes back to his same childlish behavior. He doesn't have to totally get rid of his fun side, but it would be nice if he learns from his mistakes, grows up some, and starts making better decisions before his attitude permently ruins his friendships with certain creatures(which is why his attitude concerns me).
That would, in effect, cause him to stop being Sonic the Hedgehog.
i think sonic has grown from the way he used to be. He was constantly juvenile in the early days, only showing some signs of maturity when it came to saving Uncle Chuck. "Endgame" caused him to grow up a lot and I think there was some semblance of a difference in his character after that.
Since then, I think he's matured the way any teenager would. He is only 17. 17 year olds don't have to be completely grown up. that's reserved for age 22 when you HAVE to be. I think his characterization has been pretty spot on lately. I see an evolution from the boy hedgehog in the early days to this mixture of an adult and teenager we see today
Yeah, exactly. Anyone who's complaining about Sonic being immature and whatnot, go read issues #1, #42, #73, #125, and #180, in that order (random selection of different issues from eras of the comic's history). Of course there'll be differences from different writers, but if you think the character himself hasn't matured at all, you're dead wrong. Keep in mind he's a (fictional, anthropomorphic) 17-year old in the middle of a war - I think he has no problem with his level of maturity, and to be honest most of the "Sonic is immature" arguments seemed to be based around his relationships with Sally and Fiona, so I'm not giving them much merit anyway. And come on, saying he acts like he's 7 is just an insult.
MattManic7325, I replied to your post via PM. I agree that Sonic does seem more mature compared to way back in the early days. Anyway, maybe Sonic should "no longer be Sonic the Hedgehog," or maybe he doesn't need to change that much, I am not sure. I just want my greatest wish/dream for the comic to come true.
I agree with DC.
180's actually quite a nice issue to use as an example for that. In both that and Line of Succession, we've seen Sally actively displaying an ability to compromise - which was the exact thing that led to the break-up of her relationship with Sonic in 134.
We just saw her stating to Julie-Su that it's now how she tries to resolve conflicts, when Julie-Su was showing the exact same fear-filled intractability that Sally was showing back then (you just have to look at Julie's face when Sally mentions the drone...).
She's one year older than Sonic, lived through the same war, has had family issues even after it and already had one nervous breakdown.
Now, I'll freely admit that I class Sally as a Mary-Sue. I actually liked her more between 134-173, when she had flaws - but she seems not only to've gotten her SatAM personality from Ian, but been shown to've learned from her experiences.
She's growing up, and she's actually maturing mentally in the process. Just what's Sonic's excuse for not doing the same, other than Sega not letting him?

He doesn't want to? He can step up and take responsibility, but it's his personality which is preventing him from doing so because taking that role of responsibility causes change, and I don't think he's prepared to do that.
I know - I should've put that "other that..." in brackets. 🙂
Sonic is 17 which i think is dumb.
Riveting logic, there. Very convincing argument.
As CCL says: please try to help us out a little. It's difficult for people to actually reply to you and talk about what you think when you can't manage anything more than "x/y/z sucks".
Think about it from someone else's point of view. If it doesn't look as though you care enough about your opinion to talk about it, why shoul they spend their time talking to you?
Everyone knows Sonic is 105, which I think is whickety whack.
ZOMG IM A CHAO NOW NOOOO TURN ME BACK TURN ME BACK!
Actually... I appear to be split and divided CHOPPED UP if you will into three (3) distinct different Chao. And by distinct different I mean totally identical. Which is three times worse than good. Which is bad. I blame Toby.
Extremely off-topic. And, for that matter, use the Edit button.
Aye aye captain.
I think he's 15 or 16...
About 17 I think. He turned 16 in issue 68 or 69, and he had another birthday after he came back from space.
He turned 15 in #11 and 16 in #69.
He should have turned 18 in #160, but because he missed a year he only turned 17.
Does that mean everyone who was 1 year younger than him before the space-trip are now his age, and everyone who was his age are now older than him?
Perhaps physically, since Sonic lost a year of growth. But they're still the same age as Sonic in terms of... Mobius Years.
