What is "Sonic Universe?"
"Sonic Universe" will be a new on-going monthly title set in the "Sonic the Hedgehog" universe. Makes the title pretty apt, ne?
What will SU be about?
SU will cover characters and settings outside of the normal scope of STH. So supporting cast members and "ElseWorld" stories will be here. The sky isn't the limit here - it's the universe!
What will happen to "Sonic X?"
SX had a good, solid run. We're taking our cue from "Seinfeld" and calling it quits while we're ahead. That, and given the nature of SU, it's not entirely impossible we'll never see SX again. Just don't look for it for a while.
We will be going out with a bang, though. More on that in a minute.
When does the awesome start?
I can't reveal the date yet, but you can expect things to get rolling very early 2009.
If it's set in the Prime universe (mostly), will there be cross-overs?
Yes and no. Lemme 'splain...
By its very nature, SU will be in a perpetual cross-over with STH, and visa versa. Events in STH will affect the SU world, and stuff that happens in SU will have consequences in STH. We're trying to make it so you don't have to read both to get what's going on, but it'll still be nice to pick up both books each month.
That said, there will be more direct cross-overs a la the old KTE days. More on that in a minute!
Spoilers? Please?!
This info thread wouldn't be very much fun without them, now would it?
First off, there's going to be a pretty epic cross-over the end of this year. Consider this your check list!
"Bold New Moebius" ends with the epic "Hedgehog Havoc" two-part story. Something will happen in STH#196 that sends Shadow and Metal Sonic away . . .
. . . and into SX#40! "The End" will be the grand, sweeping curtain call for the series. Shadow and Metal Sonic will then be whisked away into . . .
. . . Sonic Universe #1! "Living Weapons" will mark the beginning of the book and its opening story arc.
How are they transported? Where do they wind up in SU#1? Who do they meet? You'll just have to read to find out!
Whoa. So what . . .?
I'M NOT DONE YET!
While SU is gearing up, we'll be getting into the Road to #200. Did you think Sonic's "punishment" in STH#192 was light? Did you think I'd let it go that easy? HA!
And y'all have been wondering about Zonic, right?
And do I even need to plug STH#200? STH#175 was just Round One, folks. The final push by our heroes is going to be big, and the results will be affecting the books for literally years to come. That's not hype - that's a promise!
Done now?
Hardly! This is the SU info thread, right? It's time for some closing teases:
- Shadow fans: get ready for a whole bunch of Shadow.
- Knuckles fans: get ready for a whole bunch of Knuckles.
- Do you like it when we fill in little gaps in the history? Get ready.
- It's sure been a long time since we've had a new character on the book, isn't it? You don't have to wait much longer.
- And a whole bunch more . . . but I think I've reached the limit that I can reveal! It's officially time to geek out!
Well said!
I don't want to rain on jazzyjin's parade, so I'll direct all discussion and further speculation to [url=" http://www.bumbleking.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=925" ]this thread already in progress.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled forum.
While I'm willing to give this a chance... I hate it when stories cross series. Hate it. That's why I steer clear of superhero comics.
I'll just wait and see how this goes, I guess.
You're not the only one. I dislike it too. =
I think it sounds pretty good and I'm looking forward to it.

I think it'd only be to the extent that the Knuckles comic did it, which wasn't too too dependent on the other. I think it'll be a good way to spread the focus some. The stuff from Knuckles that got shoehorned into Sonic will have some room to breath again, as will newer game-centric stuff like Shadow/GUN and other FF groups/characters.
I guess, I mean I'd love to see the Archie Sonic universe get a proper expansion, but I spent much time back in the day reorganizing the Sonic comics with the Knuckles comics and Super Specials to be in chronological order, and all this Sonic X/ Universe crossover stuff makes it appear as though I'll be doing the same again. ^.^;; I'm just the type of guy who prefers everything in one universe/continuity to stay wrapped up in one neat little package.
That said, though this series sounds like the complete opposite of what I would've preferred, I'll just keep my trap shut until all of this actually takes effect so I know what we're actually getting into. It could turn out awesome for all I know.

-Please do not give Shadow guns.
-Give Knuckles his own personality (not another Sonic lite).
-I smell a retcon...
-Does the comic really need another new character? Is it going to be someone tied to the new Sonic games coming out? Or Silver? Could save the comic from doing an obligatory adaptation.
Don't really know what to feel about Knuckles the Echinda 2.0. If it improves the content of the original comic, then great.

- It's still a kids comic, he probably won't get a gun. He has enough chaos powers anyways.
- I don't know where you get this, Knuckles already has his own personality, I have no idea why you think he is a Sonic lite.
- I don't. All he said was that he was going to fill in some of the huge gaps in the series (like some parts of the Great War and things before that). I won't say that it won't happen, I just don't see it simply from that one comment.
- He probably was not talking about Silver, maybe a game character, but I think he was hinting at a character of his own creation. I'm sure he would like to add in some characters of his own creation. He has done quite a bit of house cleaning, so there is more space for a new character. As long as they aren't like the terrible one shot characters that Ken and Karl introduced, I'm perfectly fine with it.
I don't think it's Knuckles 2.0, I think it will be very different from that. I also agree with Lea in that it will give Ian and other writers down the road more space and freedom to explore more territories on Mobius (like the United Federation and the Downunda), check back in with some old (and new) characters, and expand them all a little bit.
"And y'all have been wondering about Zonic, right?"
ian if you were a woman i'd date you.
but no seriously, fina-frickin-lly. i've been asking that question for years.
So in other words, characters like Sally and Bunnie, could meet up characters like Cream and Chris from Sonic X?
I hope people won't start abbreviating it as "SonicVerse". Just sayin'. XD
I already have. Sonicverse is here to stay
This just in: "SonicVerse" unofficially coined by fans.
But seriously, wow, it's about time. I'm really looking forward to SU, because I've been wanting side-stories for a while concerning just about everything else, so this is a dream-come-true.
This sounds okay by me.
So in other words, characters like Sally and Bunnie, could meet up characters like Cream and Chris from Sonic X?
No, there is still a barrier between the Multi Verse. Whether or not a prime verse version of Cream will show up, I don't know, but I sincerely doubt we'll see Chris in StH.
EDIT: For those of you concerned about your Sonic X subscriptions:
"[real name removed to protect person's identity],
Yes, your Sonic X subscription will carry over to Sonic Universe. Thank you for your letter and for being such a loyal Sonic fan.Victor Gorelick

I didn't receive this e-mail, but somebody at Bumbleking did. Basically, those for SX subscriptions that go over #40 (like me), rest assured your subscription will carry over into Universe. Looks like I'm now guaranteed the first 4 issues of SU.
Sonic Universe = back-up story section from main comic given full book privileges
My thoughts exactly, Psx. Not to say it's a bad thing, though.
I suppose so to a certain degree Psx, though as Matt said, that isn't necessarily a bad thing.
As long as they're decent stories and not, say, "Island of Misfit Badniks".
This might be a question for an "ask Ian" topic, but...
From what I can gather, Sonic Universe will comprise stories of "all" universes...Archieverse, Segaverse...
...So does that mean that there will be "no more" game tie ins in the current Sonic the Hedgehog comic? And that they would be moved to appear in Sonic Universe instead?
Or is "Sonic the Hedgehog" the still "de facto" main comic for Sonic viewers?
Sonic will remain the defacto comic as far as I know. StH will be the one really starring Sonic and telling his stories. That's not to say Sonic won't be in Universe, but it sounds like it might star other people and other Sega characters more. I don't know about the tie-ins.
Doesn't sound bad so far. So I need to get a new subscription for this book as well.
I'm hoping any new game tie-ins will make more sense and don't let me hanging. I don't own any game systems other than NES and the DC so it's kinda hard to buy and play the games. Heck, I'm still wondering what the whole Blaze thing was.
-Give Knuckles his own personality (not another Sonic lite).
I admit that was way out there. But when the Knuckles comic started it looked like he was being placed in that situation with the Chaotix and Julie-Su becoming his team and a new setting appearing out of thin air for them to interact with (Echidnaopolis). Ken and co avoided it for the most part until the series was canceled, with the material continuing in the Special and eventually the Sonic comic. Haven't read the recent issues for a while now, so I assume Ian has handled Knuckles well.
If it's good material, Sonic Universe better last because of how big the Archieverse is. It can't always be about Sonic.
As long as I havn't got to look at Chris's whining face every month then I'll be happy.
O_O
For an Archie comic, this is pretty damn huge and complicated. I hope they can pull this off. If so, pure win.
My thoughts exactly, Psx. Not to say it's a bad thing, though.
I suppose so to a certain degree Psx, though as Matt said, that isn't necessarily a bad thing.
I... er, didn't mean to imply that. Just stating things matter-of-factly.

Not saying you were, I was just agreeing with Matt. That pretty much is what Universe is going to be.
So is this new comic supposed to be a reboot to a more game/Sega-Sonic universe(which is what the Sonic X comic tried to be like the cartoon it was based on) or same-old/same-old Archieverse but only with different characters? If it is the latter then that's pretty disappointing.
Little responses here . . .
That said, I stand by everything I wrote. I still hold out hope that someday Archie will release a purely SegaSonic comic without the constraints of over a decade of existing canon.
Canonical freedom? Nice idea, admitably. SegaSonic comic? I shudder at the thought. If you thought the constraints on SX were tight, they'd be nothing compared to a pure SegaSonic book. I can't really elaborate - part of my position in all this - but trust me: you wouldn't get much from a SegaSonic book.
And I still think that Sonic Universe #1 being the third in a three-part arc about the Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic X Universes merging is a half-baked idea.
Just so this isn't an arguable point anymore:
SONIC X IS NOT MERGING WITH SONIC THE HEDGEHOG. IT IS SIMPLY ENDING.
^I don't know about that. I think the games' universe is big enough to support its own comic series. It already has boatloads of a huge cast of characters now compared to the Genesis days. It would be neat to see the South Island friends in their un-archie/dic-fied forms.
The heck with South Island, I want to see Westside Island again.
He isn't talking about not being big enough to support it's own series, he's saying that Sega's rules and red tape that would most certainly come with the comic would be ridiculously crippling.

Yep...Segas rules were deffinantly crippiling SonicX...Lord I hope that doesn't happen with Universe!

I'm sure that the same rules that apply to StH will apply to SU when it is making stories about the Sonic Prime Universe. Same goes for the Sonic X stories that appear in SU, same rules that applied to that book will apply to those stories.
And y'all have been wondering about Zonic, right?
I knew it wouldn't be long, till he was brought up again.
Ya, know, maybe Zonic will reveal that Fiona has been all this time, a double agent. And I guess we can kiss Scourge goodbye for a awhile in STH.

That actually sounds plausible after some thought.

Scourge taking a break for a while I can see. Fiona being a double agent, I don't see.
Ah, Zonic! I've been wondering what's become of that character! The last time he really had any story was #112, and that was laughable at best (I mean Zonic did nothing but get hit on the head and Antoine "saved" the day!) Zonic is just another Archie character getting swept under the rug to be forgotten about before they could fully explore his potential! Color me excited!
Nah, Zonic showed up in the back stories of issues 149 and 150. The one that involved...
GET IT AWAY
BEFORE IT MANGLES US ALL WITH ITS TICK-ESQUE BOD!! >O!!!
DO NOT WANT!
Ugh, yet another of Penders' abominations that made it into the book.
Actually, Titan Tails is one of "Romy Chacon's" abominations. 8D
It was? Sorry about that, my bad. Still, it was an abomination of epic proportions.
Actually, Titan Tails is one of "Romy Chacon's" abominations. 8D
Your mama too. = )

Thank you for making that relevant and oh so funny post. [/sarcasm]
Hey you started it bsonic.
Please ignore the now banned troll and continue the discussion.
As I said the last time Zonic had any story was #112! I just pretend that 149 and 150 never happened just like I ignore that crappy three part story involving those Metal Sonics on a rampage! Those never happened!
