I mean, if You were the people at DIC Animation, what would you have done?
Well, me personally, I would have shopped it around to other networks.
For example, I would have tried CBS, because they had just started the Action Zone Block on their lineup.
Another choice, would be the Fox Kids Network. I mean, if people say
that Power Rangers was one of the reasons that Sonic SatAM got
canceled, then why not have play side by side with it on the same
Network.
Another Network that comes to mind, is the KidsWB Network. It was
starting up around that time, so why not have a show like SatAM on it's
debuting Saturday Morning Lineup to help give it a boost.
And, of course, I would have had a movie released, even it was a
direct to video movie, or the final four episodes of Season 2, along
with The Void episode, released as movie finale.
But that's what I would have done.
What you have had done?
Uh...There's nothing ANYONE could have done that hasn't been done already!
...It's been sixteen years. Time to let it go.
It's funny that you mentioned networks that no longer have a Saturday Morning Cartoon line up.
CBS: At the time CBS had a contract with Nelvana which aired Dumb & Dumber, The Mask & Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (Jim Carrey Triple Bill). As well they were airing Skeleton Warriors, Ninja Turtles and Gawd knows what other numerous shows they had on that line up. Sonic would have no room on there.
Fox Kids: [Board Meeting]
Employee:"Hey I got an idea! let's have the series that couldn't stand up to the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers and air it back to back because it's not like were desperate?"
C.E.O: ... Clean out your desk.
Why would (at the time) the No. 1 SATAM network air a series that lost viewers and got canceled when they were the ones who was airing the show that killed said series?
Kids WB: Even though they Steven Spielberg Cruise Control (Which isn't a complement), Kids WB was dong just that. Airing their OWN titles and winning Emmey's and ratings.
Now I'm sure that SEGA didn't really try to shop around for Sonic SATAM , because they aired The Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog not long after.
Point is if I was SEGA (Not DiC because they were only paid by SEGA to create the animation... Twice) I wouldn't sweat it. If they wanted Sonic's name to sell games, toys and T-Shirts? Then their work is done.
... IS DONE!
I mean, if You were the people at DIC Animation, what would you have done?
[controversial & provocatice statement]I would have tried to make a better show, rather than a venue for furry Star Wars fanfics. [/controversial & provocatice statement]
I'll admit that is kind of an unfair oversimplification, but it is kind of true too.
To be fair Vec, it was 93. Show's like Sonic SATAM where what was "in." I mean they have been shows that were ahead of that time that where canned because the target audience just didn't get it.
But other than that, your pretty much right! XD
EDIT: Been meaning to mention this.
...It's been sixteen years. Time to let it go.
GAWD! That made me laugh FOREVER!
Being honest, if you work on a TV show and it get's cancelled, you do NOTHING! Mainly because there's not much you can do, you just move on to your next gig. I also find it funny that you never hear anyone who worked on the show talk about bringing it back, BECAUSE THEY MOVED ON!!!
Well, what I would do, is I would like, maybe pitch a spinoff series?
But they already did a spin off series (of sorts)
... And it was terrible! Not my cup of tea!
It still had more variety in locales and characters than SatAM ever did with fewer episodes to boot.
Hmm, I wonder just how much longer I'll have to wait before someone states that hey are going to try and relaunch the series or continue with a season 3! It happens on average about twice a year, and I haven't seen one yet! Go ahead try to get my hopes up I dare you!

Yeah, but when it turns into a poor mans Josie & The Pussycats with equally cheesy songs to match the variety is lost on me.
Then again SatAM was a cool concept... IN 1993 and only... IN 1993!
But I digress. I'll stop before this turns into another needless "OMG (insert Sonic series) IS THE BEST EVER AND TEH OTHERS SUCKS!1" fest.

Fair enough.
I would have accepted that the show's number was up and had the ending of the last episode re-worked to feel a bit more final with no mysterious eyes or any other cliff hangers and maybe a breif flash forward. (Sort of like the Sonic: In your Face Future.) And that's all.
If I knew that Season 2 was the season, I certainly wouldn't have waited until the third to last episode of the last season to give Tails character development and give him official Freedom Fighter status.
I've already written fanfics on fanfiction.net about it. My name is M. Briggs. I might write an outline of some events that would happen in future seasons. That's if you don't go by Archie.
