I've noticed that the original Freedom Fighters are being phased out, in favor of more game characters and new characters..

For exemple Rotor's become redundant since Tails has become a tech guy himself, and we've all seen Sally go from being Sonic's girlfriend to another background character. And now that Bunnie and Antoine are back together again, they haven't shown up much on "screen" anymore.

I'm not a 'shipper, and I don't want this to be a relationship thread, and I don't want the game characters to be ignored...

...but I hope Archie hasn't forgotten about the Classic Freedom Fighters. They were part of what drew us into that world, after all.

I too have been noticing a lack of appearences by the OFF (Orginal Freedom Fighters)heck, three issues ago even Knuckles barley appeared. I mean, what was the last comic where Sally appeared for more than a page? #.156? Not even M:25yl had her for more than two pages worth. Shadow has been seeping in too. He's been in M:25yl, Birthday Bash, System Shutdown, and not to mention 170-175.

I would like to see the Orginal FF get more action, but we know Ian has plans. So we'll just have to be patient i guess.

You mean the Knothole Freedom Fighters. The Original Freedom Fighters are another group entirely (Tig Stripe and his group).

I seriously doubt that Ian's going to be getting rid of the SatAM gang.

having never seen SatAM, i was drawn to the comic by the characters from the games.
but the archie sonic cast has gotten so friggin' big over the years that we barely see some characters at all.

I don't read the comic, but I do keep up with the fandom and look at some scans and I've noticed sometimes you have like a whole mob of the "regular cast" just standing around before a fight to be included in the scene. Or maybe it happened once, whatever.

And the regular cast keeps getting bigger. It's like main characters are pretty much cameos.

The FFs (Sonic, Tails, Sally, Rotor, Antoine, Bunnie, Amy) and Chaotix (Knuckles, Vector, Espio, Charmy, Julie-Su, Mighty, and MAYBE Ray) should be there, plus Rouge and Shadow, but Archie has a lot of extraneous characters.

I think the operation should "expand" so we can have some characters out of the action, and perhaps doing their freedom fighting in some other area off comic, so they don't have to show up constantly. Maybe just letting those characters get jobs in Knothole that keep them out of the story unless they have a role to play.

Tommy - he's now a backup to Rotor, whose role is questionable anyway because of Tails
Saffron - Charmy clone
Fiona - Ian's been turning her into a character with some history lately, suggesting connections to shady activities with Bean and Bark, but honestly I don't think we need yet ANOTHER regular.

I don't think any of the above have fan bases.

Rotor being more of a stay-at-Knothole type is consistent with his SatAM character anyway, and they certainly need multiple mechanics. So he could easily still have a major story role without having to be shoehorned into appearances (especially action related) to show he's still in the comic. Tails can do his thing on the field when necessary.

Some of us (myself included) are starting to warm to Fiona as a character, and it doesn't make sense to unceremoniously drop her from the continuity after the big deal Ken made in "Line of Succession."

The way to balance the cast is an issue. There are FAR too many heroes. The fact that the Dark Legion was starting to go soft was only aggravating this. I hope that Ian's going to be resolving that.

The problem is that all of these characters have to share one book, whereas previously they had three books to occupy. Some characters are going to have to see a decrease in role.

Though they don't all have to show up in the same story, you can get away with just using a handful of specific ones. The key one to have in the story is Sonic, everyone else can fit around him depending on who the story needs.

I concur with keeping Fiona. Can't go wrong with the ol' Shady Past plotline.

yeah, but it's gotten way to blaringly obvious. i really hope ian is going somewhere with this, because honestly her "shadey" past and Relationship with sonic are really just boring. they are kind of making her out to be the spider-woman of the freedom fighters.

Sonic: wow, you've got a shady past, wanna go out some time?

Captain america: wow, you've got a shady past which includes being an operative of a worldwide terrorist association, a triple agent status, and a really great pair of ****, wanna join the avengers?

I like to think that the Sat a.m. cast is not being phased out, just on some down time.

i'm hoping the comic's just in some sort of transitional phase while we get all these other characters' stories resolved (tommy, fiona, shadow, etc) I do hope that sometime soon we can get alot of stories featuring the Knothole FF and the Chaotix. It is true though it was a whole lot easier when there was more than one comic. solution? Knuckles the Echidna should return, but that's my old opinion that won't die out
