Everyone thinks about King Shadow's iron fisted policies and the vanishing of Manic and Sonia into nobodies.

But the tragedy nobody seems to think about in the Shadow Mobius 25 Years Later is that in the original timeline, Lien-Da's son did wonders for her, likely being the primary cause of her reform. When the timeline got altered to the world of King Shadow, not only did the timeline patch up job cause Shadow to become Black Doom Jr, and the 'never were even alive' of Manic and Sonia (Sonic and Sally's kids): it also reverted Lien-Da back to the awful woman we know and loath in the current timeline.

If you take a look at one panel in the Mobius 25 Years later comic after the time revisions, you see her son taking a peak at her, and looking at her like he doesn't even know his own mother anymore! While logically he'd have no way to know, it's possible that somehow, while he can't say why, he KNOWS emotionally that his mother isn't supposed to be this vindictive creature!

Or maybe Lein-Da in this timeline is wondering how her son suddenly turned into such a soft hearted weakling (the humane and civilized child she raised in the original timeline), since this version of Lein-Da, wouldn't have raised her with tender love and care I think.

I can actually see him begging at her feet to 'change back' to be the mother he 'knows' she's supposed to be, with predictably violent results. Of course he doesn't think his mother would strike him, but this monster isn't his mother.

Erm. Lien-Da seemed anything but nice in the original M:25YL. I'd say the furtherest you could stretch it was she was playing nice in order to get ahead, but I really doubt she was ever the figure of reform you talk about.

Instead of over-analyzing M:25YL, I'd rather pretend that it never happened.

Didn't Lien-Da use the same kind of device as Tails to protect her and those around her from the effects of the time change? I don't think she was really different - just revelling in the fact that thanks to the revamp, she was in power. Since she hadn't been able to obtain that previously, Rutan was probably unnerved by how she acted when she finally "won" in a way.

Her going homemaker and being friendly to Julie-Su seemed way OOC anyway to not be a front. Even if she had reformed somewhat I can't see her ever "forgiving" her half-sister. Her character is pretty much driven by her feelings of being unjustly snubbed and not getting what she felt she was entitled to in life (Kragok taking power instead of her, her mother dying and her father remarrying without "her permission" and having another kid, the Legion's banishment in the first place, etc.).

She seemed very much different to me. And two decades and a half CAN change a woman.

I thought the same as Matt actually...

Lien-Da seemed just as evil as she was before.

That said, I think I might be one of the few who actually enjoyed at least the first M25YL saga.

You know what I find odd? In one of his Q&A topics at BumbleKing Comics, Ian said that Lien-Da was incapable of loving anyone, since she was so in love with the "ideals" of the Dark Legion. So how exactly did she get together with someone to have a kid? And more importantly, who is Rutan's dad? It's a perplexing mystery...

She got drunk one night, and the results speak for themselves...

Alternatively Rutan's actually a Rutan and he's only pretending to be Lien-Da's son as part of a cover story.

That seems a little far fetched, even for THIS comic.

The only "tragedy" to fall upon Lein-Da was her choice of fashion! XP

she seemed well adjusted to the new order yes, but the old scheming spirit of lien-da was very much present in the M:25YL arc. she was very cool and calculating all the time, figuring out how each bit of information could benefit her

Lien-Da obviously hadn't changed much by M25YL. I wonder if she even really cared about Rutan, seeing as how she's so obsessed with power. He certainly seemed miserable enough in the alternate timeline. As for how he came about, I highly doubt that it involved intoxication. Perhaps she married someone so that an heir to the Legion could be produced (obviously before the Legion became buddies with the rest of Mobius in M25YL) and then conveniently arranged for her husband's "disappearance." I have one guy I wouldn't mind seeing her with, but both the BumbleKing topic I mentioned earlier and the rules of this forum prevent me from naming him.
