------------------------------------------------------------

I'm starting this topic as a discussion as what you would like to see in issues #175, as well as #200.

Before I fire the gun, I'll refer to the previous landmark issues:

Sonic #25: Sonic vs. Mecha Sonic. It's a nice bit of action. This has positive feedback, mostly. (One-Parter)

Sonic #50: ENDGAME. This was origonally planned to be wrapping up the comic. It turned out that the comic was just beginning... (I would rate this as one of my favorite landmark issues.) (Four-parter)

Sonic #75: YOU! This probably had the best feedback of all landmark issues. For 25 previous issues, a mysterious character was behind the scenes, planning HUGE trouble. Finally, he is revealed as ROBO-ROBOTNIK. There is a battle, resulting in the rescue of Sonic's parents, and the creation of the new EGGMAN. (Seemed like a six-issue-long story, but was probably a two-parter)

Sonic #100: This was a bit of a dissappointment. The 100th issue was planned to be something huge and incredible. Because of SEGA's demand for a SA2 adaptation, the scedule was behind, and things were ruined. Ah well. (Sort-of a two-parter)

Sonic #125: THIS is landmark. GIANT! Xorda space aliens pose an ultimate threat on Mobius, and it is up to EVERYONE to team up to destroy their secret weapon. The best writers and pencilers of the comic team up to make this comic a masterpiece. (2-parter)

Sonic #150: After all of these landmark issues, everyone had high expectations set for CHAOS EMERALDS ARE FOREVER. Perhaps expectations were set TOO high, because this issue had worse feedback than #100! This issue seemed like a question, rather than a conclusion. First half of the issue was all about ROMANCE. Fortunately, we had a big battle for the backstory. Unfortunately, that battle didn't mean much, because everything was restored back to the way it should have been. (One-Parter, with Two-Parter backstory.)

SO, now that we have the previous landmark issues fresh in our mind, let's talk about what's in store for the next ones.

A couple things to discuss are:

-How many issues long should the next "Landmark Issue's" story be? The FOUR-part Endgame turned out wonderfully, but The GOOD, BAD, and the UNKNOWN wasn't that much of a pleaser.

-What about the writers and the pencilers? Who should write? Who should pencil? What about a teamup?

-Backstory, or no backstory? I think a whole-issue story would be a good choice, just like #125.

-Big battle? Or, ROMANCE? (Ugh)

I'd like to hear of your suggestions, and I'd also know what the writers of the comic have to say. (That's you, Ken. That's you, Ian.)

By the way... What do I have in mind?

I'd like to see a return of the Super Emeralds, the Master Emerald, and SUPER SONIC. (Yes, I love those SEGA ideas.) I'd also like to see a battle between SONIC and EGGMAN. (Or, should that be saved for #200?)

All right. Let the discussion begin!

EE

I'd like there to be a sort of two- or three-issue arc before #175 that sets up an arc that gradually reaches its climax in a five-parter at #200. Remember the days of, say, #35-#50? It felt like the writers had this great plan, and were gradually revealing the story to us? Or #50-#75, where we got tantalizing hints to Robo-Robotnik, and it turned out most of the events in those issues were orchestrated by him? That's the sort of thing I miss from the comic. With the exception of the useless Sonic/Sally/Mina/Bunny/Antoine/Rouge/Everyone/Etc, there's almost no continuity between one issue to the next.

I think Milestone issues should only be every 100 issues or on a significant anniversary of the comic or the franchise.

Here's my personal list of things that I might like to see happen in a milestone issue:

  • A semi-regular who we previously thought was untouchable should die (I'm thinking Rotor). And die permanently.
  • The Ancient Walkers should finally die, and out of their death something significant should happen.
  • Snively should go renegade and take nanite-Tommy with him.
  • Something significant about Shadow should be revealed

Just a couple of ideas.

What, you want the Great Battlekukku XVI's armies to go and start taking over the lands?

Or, maybe, a Sonic who's got absolutely NO clue as to what's going on shows up; he doesn't recognize his family, Sally, or anyone in Knothole save Tails and Amy (or even Knothole, for that matter), is much more reckless when it comes to taking down Eggman's armada (and amazingly is very successful about it, too), doesn't recognize "Mobius" but instead responds to "Earth", and then turns out to be the game Sonic (or one much more similar to him) stuck in the comic universe?

Maybe Black Doom Prime could come on for a visit? If that isn't happening already.

Oooh, I know. Chris and Tommy Turtle special extravaganza! That'll make everyone thrilled, I just know it! 😀 😀 😀 *shot*

Every issue up to #200 will get progressively worse in terms of what it does to the overall Archie universe, culminating in a 4 book arc of "epic" proportions.

Then the final page of #200 will reveal everything post-Endgame was a dream! Oh, how exquisitely delicious!

It should be a two parter. It should be set up like #75 and #125 was. It should have something moving, and change some aspect of the universe drastically! Like how Robotnik died in #50, Robo-Robotnik rises and becomes more powerful than Robotnik in #75, Sonic's supposed death in 125 to come back from space to find that everything has changed! Something like that!

Bottom line issue 175 Sonic and Sally will get back together. Its bound to happen. But I want to see them talk things though with each other for example

Sally: Im sorry for hitting you and dumping you Sonic
Sonic: thats ok Im sorry for shouting at you
Sally: I promise things will be different, next time something bad happens to you and you still want to fight Ill stand you no matter what happens cause I love you
Sonic: Sal youve made me the happiest hedgehog in the world and I love you to (cue the hugging kissing etc etc).

But knowing Archie it will be the clichd story line used so many times in the past before.

Girl gets kidnapped
Guy goes to rescue girl
Guy saves girl
Guy and girl make dramatic exit
Guy and girl look into each others eyes
Guy and girl say to each other I love you
Guy and girl kiss
The end

Issue 200 I dont know. Maybe the Black Arms aliens from the Shadow game make an appearance or maybe someone dies (please let it be Tommy) or maybe Robotnik brings goes ape s**t from his plans always being foiled by Sonic and plans to send a nuclear bomb to the planets core and blowing it up killing every living thing on the planet. Even himself.

Those are just a few of my ideas.

Woo! I really can't wait for 175 to come out! It comes out around the time I graduate from High school.

Well as far as the Sonic/Sally/Tails/Fiona deal goes, Ian once told me on his forum, that it will evlove and be settled around next year, so you (SonixFactor) might be right about it happing in 175, then it again it might happen before then, let's not forget they got back together in 123, two issiues before 125 in one of the major stoies that led up to 125, so that might be something that happens before/leads into 175.

And who knows, maybe 175 will be invloved around M25YL. you never, so for me, I'll just keep guessing and wait until we a lot closer.

I do want Sonic and Sally to get back together eventually, and I agree with Sonicxfactor that it should not be done in a dumb way. The good thing is that, so far, I think I would trust Ian with this story more than I would Ken or Karl. I am not sure if it should happen in a landmark issue though, because I am leaning toward wanting a story that is more action focused for 175.

Also, I think I would like landmark issues to be apart of a mini-series or two parter and it should not have a back story, so more story could be told. As for what else I want to happen, I want what I always want in the comic; a good story.

1 ) If M:25YL is involved, maybe someone from the future (or a lot of people from the future) could come back into the past and either
a) try to fix the timeline
b) try to alter the timeline
That might prove interesting, especially if it turns out to be someone's kid.
Manic: Hey Mom and Dad!
Sonic: O_X
Sally: o_O
Max: What the hell is this...?!
Jules: ...I knew it...

2 ) Over the issues, I actually think that it would be interesting if Sonic separated from the Freedom Fighters, either to fight on his own for a while or to join someone else in the fight. A milestone issue could be the issue where he comes back, hopefully changed (more mature, perhaps...?)

I agree with you, Questern, if Sonic does spend time away from the Freedom Fighters, he should come back changed for the better. Often, when Sonic is away from the Freedom Fighters it seems like he is sent away just for the sake of being away from them, I hope you understand what I mean.

One thing that could lead up to 175 or 200 could be a story that tells how Tails and Mina became more than friends (see pervious M25YL Stories for details)along with the usual action/adventure story.

*bangs head on desk*

And this is one major reason why I'll never forgive Penders for Desperate Echidna Housewives: 25 Freakin' Issues Later.

Not only was it a vanity project whose production values gave it a narrative as smooth, pacey and free-flowing as molasses - Penders ignoring and flat-out contradicting the editor when he said that it had NO RELEVANCE to the main continuity because it's an ALTERNATE or POSSIBLE future has people convinced that the main continuity still has to tippy-toe around it.

I'm not saying that people can't hope for things like Sonic and Sally getting back together, but I'm sick of M25YL being used as some sort of evidence that it's going to happen.

The future isn't written and it's definitely not prescribed.

Preach, Sam.

And yes, DC, I understand what you are saying, but what I was thinking of was Sonic leaving on his on accord, not a royal command or Freedom Fighter assignment. Resigning from the Freedom Fighters would also qualify.

(On a relatively unrelated tangent, I wonder how long Sonic's new knightship will last...)

About Sonic's knightship, I would want it to last(to help make him start to be more responsible) but I doubt it will. Sega and Archie don't seem to like Sonic to get along with anyone for too long. I would probably be ok if Sonic resigned from the FF's for awhile, as long as Archie made it clear that Sonic's relationships with his family and friends would end up being stronger when he came back. I guess I am just tired of Sonic's relationship with others being strained often.

About M25LY, I wish Archie would have left it alone. I had my problems with it under Ken, and from the previews I have read don't like the direction Ian is taking with it. How it ends might change my opinion though. Lastly, speaking only for myself I understand that it is only a possible future, it is just that there are some things I do want to end up happening for certain in the future.

Ian should celebrate the next milestone by scrapping the universe and starting over, DC-style.

Yes that is true, but IP said he was taking everthing Ken did in M25YL seriously, so one can never tell, besides what a great alteritive for Tails to fall in love with, I mean Mina and Tails used to and I guess still do like to hang out with each other, but like I said one never knows and like you said the future isn't written.
