Does anyone know how she was created? By this I mean who looked at the Archie Comic (or the TV show, whichever came first) and said "Hey! We need a chipmunk/squirrel Princess here!"

I've tried looking it up on wikipedia but all it talks about is the ficitional history?

Anyone?

Probably stemmed from "Princess Acorn" from the pre-SatAM concept stuff. SonicHQ has a page on it, IIRC.

I figured she was based on the squirrels that would pop out of Eggman's robots in the games.

Originally, Sally Acorn was the name of said squirrel in the West.

I'm not sure whose idea making her royalty was later, though.

She was based on this squirrel: membres.lycos.fr/spinatta...uirrel.jpg

She also had that look: membres.lycos.fr/spinatta...stery3.jpg

And then she has been pink with black hairs(as seen in "Head or Tails" or the early comics) and blond with brown fur (before the pink one I think)

Although the look in those cartoon prototype pics was never actually used in any series.

Have to agree with Dan Drazen that the chemical bath thing was a bad plot device for explaining Sally's change in fur color. I would be interesting if she made herself a brunette or blond again, just to try something new. Though since I've now said it, Archie can't use it.
Let this be a lesson people.

Yes, because you own the create rights to hair dye.

Also, the chemical bath thing was more of a tongue-in-cheek reference for the old fans; it wasn't a huge part of the backstory. Let it go.

There's no need to try to be clever, Matt. Alex is right, more or less.

People like Karl and Ken deliberately avoided reading any fan pitches sent to them, because they don't want to be accused of plagiarism later on. Even if they read something just out of curiosity, an idea could creep in later subconsciously, after they'd forgotten where it was from.

Does anyone else remember that whole debacle over whether or not Mina was actually Archie stealing Mimic the Moonrat, whose creator'd never pitched to them but was convinced that someone'd stolen her character from online references?

Reading fan ides isn't standard practice. Ian and Tracy're something of an exception.

No, they're not. There's a fan-creation thread at Ian's board specifically so that people could share their fan-made stuff with other fans and keep it out of the threads Ian and Tracy (or anyone else who's popped up) frequent. People have been told more than once to not throw their pitches (haha) towards any of the comic staff there (intentionally or otherwise), hence the creation of that thread.

I know that that's how it works there (I have an account there, although I tend to lurk). I was referring to SHQ specifically, and how, in trawling threads here and maybe tripping over things accidentally, they're exceptions.

I should've made that clearer. It was a long day yesterday...

Ah, okay. Just a matter of phrasing. =P

No problem. Again, I shouldn't have been quite so vague. 🙂

It doesn't help, either, that Ian was a fan-fiction writer himself.

I won't pretend that, as an Other-M fan, I wasn't watching Sonic/Fiona (it being Ian's Other-M pairing since before the real Fiona was even an Archie character) with interest, wondering if he'd take it along similar lines or diverge.
