Sonic #175? I'll just let my confusion and horror go on that one. But the real meat of the story, if you can call it that, is what happens when Robotnik actually starts playing his Sonic game. (I apologize for the poor quality of the attached picture, but that's how it came to us) If you can't read it, Robotnik exclaims

It's not my fault! The controls are horrendous! I should've spent more time in development.

lol, sad but true 🙁

As I've said before: what you get when you hire fans as your creatives are people who actually know about the franchise...

That's hilarious. :p I love little things like that, kinda like an inside joke.

It's pretty bad when you're being mocked inside something akin to your own department.

And that right there is why it's awesome to have fans as writers.

What the hell have they done to Robotnik =(

It's been like eight years since I saw the comic, and I remember him not looking like this.

FIX IT.

They switched to Eggman...just like Sega did eight years ago. The old Robotnik is dead, and this poseur is his replacement.

I laughed out loud. How could Sega switch to Eggman, when he's always been Eggman in the games?

He's always been Eggman in the games in Japan, but he was Dr. Robotnik to the US until Sonic Adventure.

Erinaceus made it sound as if Eggman is a different person in the games now, which he is'nt. Also, I always called him Eggman for some reason, although I'm not sure I remember how I knew his name was actually Eggman at the time.

Dr. R changed to Egg on issue #75. God I miss those days. I remember that Archie said that they would never make Tails yellow in order to stay consistent with the series. This was in 96.

Now

Sonic with green eyes (the reason was obviously a cover up)
Different Amy
Tails IS yellow
Eggman
Shadow and Rouge :nono
Snively dresses like Eggman
Bunnie and Antoine are now married! (who saw that one coming)

It's not what it used to be.

What I meant is that SoA and all liscensees outside of Japan switched to Eggman with the onset of Sonic Adventure. I know all about the whole Eggman/Robotnik schtick...so don't bother.

SA2, actually.

And you previous statement made it sound like there some difference in personality between the two names when it's not true. Especially seeing that he was Eggman since 1991. :-p

That's like saying Toadstool and Peach are two different people when the only thing different is the regional name.

And about the OP, you know the games are bad when even the comic mocks them. LOL

There is a difference in personality between the two...as far as the comic is concerned. The original Robotnik that existed for the first fifty issues looked and acted as more of a threat. This guy, on the other hand, is as goofy as he is in the games.

And it was Sonic Adventure where the name change occurred. Sure, it was just used as a derisive nickname to ease the switch, but both the character redesign and the name change came with SA.

Prove it. Because in my opinion, it's false.

In any case, why is this in South Island anyhow?

Was thinking the same thing Dirk. On the one hand, it's making fun of the games; so it could belong here. But on the other hand, it's from the comics so it should actually be in the other forum.
Don't know how to word that better, but it SHOULD be in the Knothole Forum.

Simmer down, people.

I let it stay in South Island because it referred to the games and the attitude quite a few posters here have. If people have a problem with it being here and it's turning into a discussion on Archie, I'll move it.

You're welcome to make suggestions, but please don't tell the staff how to do their jobs, ChaoRcute. I know that you mean well, but we don't earn the right to be in our positions by being incompetent... 😉

Sorry Sam. I'm a bit of a perfectionist if you noticed that already. n_n

You didn't have to move it if you did. I was just trying to point that out.

Well at the time i asked various people of the chat and mods if it should be posted in SI as it was really a dig at the games instead of a discussion about the comics. And since not much comic discussion was or had be occuring in this topic (since i believe there to have been a free comic book day mention in knothole already) ...

It's shadowed in SI, so people should still be able to find it from either forum. I did that because I thought that it was borderline between the two, myself.

I was wondering why this topic was moved, oh well.

Eh, I thought you were talking about the video game version of Robotnik/Eggman in the first place. And the video game version was a threat despite his comical appearence, or have you forgotten about using the animals as batteries, Metal Sonic's debut, the Death Egg and its resurrection, the Doomsday zone, etc.

Heck, I rank fighting him(and Mecha Sonic) at the end of Sonic 2 as the most threatning thing ever related to the character, if only because you never encounter any rings, and the fact that I wasted so many lives and continues when I first got to that area and still failed to beat him. :lol

I did eventually beat that game some weeks later, good times! :)

i like how eggman looks so evil and demonic on the sonic 2 boxart but he's that same ol goofball we all know and love.. Now if only we could get Ian to make a gag on his resembelence to Teddy Roosevelt and get Eggman to dress like theodore and shouting "bully!!" while shooting at sonic with a shotgun or a rifle...

Well, unless the dialogue was changed between Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut, Eggman/Robotnik was referred to both as Robotnik AND Eggman in Sonic Adventure. In Sonic Adventure 2 and all later games he's referred to almost exclusively as Eggman. So Sonic Adventure was the "transitioning" point. Though as someone pointed out, he was always Eggman in Japan, someone just switched it to Robotnik in the United States and it was later changed.

And Tails definitely isn't yellow in the comics. I'd say he's orange/yellow with more of an emphasis on the orange.

In the comics though, he didn't switch to Eggman in issue #75, he was just changed to "neo-Robotnik" (or whatever the heck you want to call him, I just came up with that on the spot) and was still called Robotnik (or RoboRobotnik, or Robotnik Mach 2, but still Robotnik). Then, like Sonic Adventure, he later was referred to as both Eggman and Robotnik, and now is, like the games, referred to almost exclusively as Eggman.

By the way, anyone have any idea at what point he was referred to as only Eggman in the comics?

Ashide, there is an easy tip to defeating "Silver Sonic." (As he is sometimes called) Stand facing left, right under his face and spin dash roll. When you hear 4 hits, release. I found this out the first time I got there. I never had a problem with him. :]

When I said that he changed to Egg, I was talking about his apperance, not his name. He was still named Robo-Robotnick at that time, but I don't when he was renamed Dr. Eggman.
Don't know if this is true, but is he just called "Eggman" in Japan or is it Dr. Eggman? He was called Eggman before Sonic Adventure over there, but now i'm not so sure.

I've always perfered the Robotnik title. Although Eggman kinda goes with the beatles track. "I am the Eggman, I am the walrus koo koo ka choo."

Doctor Who: Evacuation Earth for the DS. It is a pretty basic point and click puzzle game. It's voiced by Matt Smith and Karen Killan, though the happiness of having The Doctor and Amy actually voiced by The Doctor and Amy is tempered by the fact that the voice clips get repetitive. Well, outside of the story narrative, anyway.

The puzzles are fairly simplistic, even the ones that give me the most problem only do so because I hate that particular type of puzzle. But having a PEGI rating of 3, it was clearly intended for a younger crowd. Some times the game does a horrible job of telling you what you are supposed to do next. And, for a point-and-click puzzle game, the point-and-click portion of it does not seem especially accurate.

Graphically, the game is just alright. Some of the characters look like they are de-rezzed photos, while others look like de-rezzed photos of a head on a clearly drawn body. To be honest, the best looking characters are the ones that they clearly drew from scratch. Some times Matt Smiths head and body are out of scale with each other, and Amy is almost always out of scale.

If you're a Doctor Who fan, you might be able to justify buying this (that's why I got it). Other wise, if you're into point-and-click puzzle games, you should probably stick with Layton.

So I finished The Third Birthday. And, er, hmm. The presentation was fantastic, the gameplay was solid enough, but the story...? Jesus Christ the story was terrible. FF13 levels of terrible. Can't SE make a decent story anymore
