Does anyone know whats happening with the release of a SATAM DVD box set? I live in the uk and I was on Anchor Bays website and I was on the forum and I saw a post asking for them to release SATAM DVDs. the post scored a lot of hits from people begging for them to release the series, the last post on the site was that Dic gave Anchor Bay all their rights to release their Sonic cartoons. Anchor Bay did after all release a Sonic Underground DVD box set over here in the uk but their has been no news on this and the forum post hasnt been updated on the subject so I just want to know if anyone from the uk or anyone at all can shed some light on the subject?
Here is the link to the forum post for you to take a peek at.
Well, it's possible that the Underground set did so poorly Anchor Bay felt relunctant to do the same for SatAM.
oh please, oh please...I would do almost anything for this set...i've found some low quality stuff on the web, and they're better than nothing, but i want something that i can actually make out what's happening...I've got my 30 bucks right here, Anchor Bay! I may have to go without eating for a week, but i'll be so focused on SATAM, that i won't care! I don't even care if there are any extras! It would be nice, but something is better than nothing!
Wouldn't they have the same rights issues that basically caused the most recent SatAM DVDs to be recalled? Rightly or wrongly, I'm under the impression that no one will be making any SatAM DVDs unless something changes in terms of ownership rights.
I also think that's the same topic that basically caused at least the Sonic HQ News page to semi-retract the news because some fans were being a bit annoying to the company.
With 26 half hour episodes, they could easily fir this all onto four DVDs. You think, with Sonic becoming somewhat more popular lately (not to mention Underground getting a release), they'd be keen to do this. Stupid companies.
Myself, I'm looking forward to an AoStH box set as well. =p
Well it would be nice if either box set came out.
But until it happens, I'm not going to sit around complaining until it does.
I myself wouldn't mind if they made a DVD release of Sonic Christmas Blast either. ONLY because it's a holiday special and I'm a holiday nut.
well since Anchor Bay are based in the uk do you think that the ownership rights will be different over here in the UK then in the US?
Sega europe dident seem to mind a Sonic Underground DVD boxset so maybe if Anchor Bay went to Sega europe and asked if they can release a SATAM DVD box set maybe they would be a lot nicer then Sega America and give them the green light for it to happen.
on the anchorbay forum they said that sega wouldn't let them make it because dvds weren't around when the show was aired.what kind of lame excuse is that
Half of the shows out there on dvd are ones that were created decades before the dvd was ever invented. Whio ever madethis excuse is essentially talking a lot of bull @#%$.
thats what I thought. I mean I have a friend who knows a guy who puts old vhs tapes on dvd and from what he says, its easy.
Putting VHS on DVD is really easy...my computer can capture live tv, or anything else that uses a Stereo AV Cable or an cable tv hook-up...Now, doing a high quality capture might require some more expensive software that what i have right now, but building something that could handle a task like this would cost well less than $2000, maybe around $1000...
Well I know they made a couple VHS releases, maybe we should just convert them to DVD.
Though I would love to see all the episodes at once, not just a few selected here and there.
Guys, SEGA isn't the problem, Disney is. Disney has some ownership of SatAM, and when they get their mousy paws on something they cling and never let go, ever.
There was a SatAM DVD released in America but it was released without Disney's consent, so they had it recalled and won't let any more be released at all. I believe the same applies to AoStH, but I'm not sure.
With regards to Sonic Underground, they either have no ownership of it or don't mind its release. I believe it's the former.
Disney must be one can short of a six pack. dont they realize their sitting on a gold mine.
They aren't, actually. I don't think the SatAM DVD sold extraordinarily well.
The SATAM DVD might not have sold well, but that isn't an indication that there is no demand and that the DVD set won't sell. First off, the DVD didn't have a very wide release. Second, there was little to no advertising about it. And thirdly, given the episodes that appeared on the DVD, most SATAM fans wouldn't have bought it. There are so many better episodes of SATAM, but none of them have seen release so far...If Disney or Anchor Bay or whoever has the copyrights wants to make some cash off of this, they will invest a little bit of money building up a little hype...you know, advertise it in a couple of big store ads (Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, <dare I say it> Walmart... at least here in the states).

I believe it was available at all major DVD retailers in the United States. That's fairly wide.

That's often the case. Although SatAM wasn't heavily advertised by any means, there were some ads.

I expect most SatAM fans would have bought it just to support the further release of the DVD, as I did. And besides, I love Sonic and the Secret Scrolls.

I'm not sure SEGA will want a lot of high-profile exposure for a series which they (rightly) feel is not representative of the current image of Sonic.
~If this is true, then I'd LOVE it if Anchor Bay could get itself in gear and make with the DVD shipping!
Sally & Bunnie were so awesome! And I loved all the mayhem that Sonic always got into. What about the rest of you guys? Any fond memories?
I may not remember much abotu SatAM, but jeez, its been TEN fricking years!
Whoever is charge of licensing and whatnot is very very stubborn to not let the SatAM fans here a DVD box set of the Blue Blur.
If they were going to create this DVD box set they should be courteous to the long awaiting fans by giving the first and second entire seasons along with bonus matierials from "What Could Have Been In Season 3."
At least thats what I would do but this waiting and waiting is driving me nuts!
Welcome to the MoFo, rikorillaz.

Very true. As I said above, it's apparently Disney. And that's the way Disney likes to operate. Unfortunately for the fans, it usually works out pretty well for them.

That would make for an interesting featurette. Although nothing was ever produced, there were ideas, so they could include interviews with Hurst and others.

Although you should never say never, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a release which doesn't look like it's ever going to happen.
Sonics 15th Anniversary is coming up I think if a SATam box set was released alongside the next Sonic game (in this case the new one thats coming out for the PS3 and Xbox 360) I think it would sell really well. Hell I would buy 2.
off topic questions 1) is a pg-13 the amerian version of a english 12a?
2)i just want to know if SatAM is suitable for a 12 year old.
3)and if it is pg-13, why?
Okay, I have no idea what an English 12a is, but PG-13 stands for Parental Guidance suggested for ages 13 and below.
<this was ripped from the Motion Picture Association of America's website (www.mpaa.org)>
I don't think (actually I know) this rating doesn't apply to Satam...These are ratings for motion pictures, not television shows...Television ratings didn't become required until after Satam's life was cut short, but in its reruns on the USA Network (here in the US at least) it earned a 'Y' rating, which is basically means no one should find it offensive/ suitible for all ages.
So in other words, there is no way Satam would recieve a PG-13 rating. I hope this clears up any of your confusion, Shendu.
SatAm is definitely kid-friendly.
I seem to recall a politician or two thinking differently back in the heyday of the show.
Not that that counts for anything.
Kid friendly?! But... she's... NAKED!
WONT SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?!
I would love to see another box set released. I recently bought Sonic Christmas Blast, it was released on DVD here in America. I also just ordered the Sonic Underground boxset from an import site. I'm waiting for it to arrive, hopefully it gets here this week.
grow up craig and try to be a little mature 1) shes an animal 2) it doesnt show anything. I even remember watching it when I was 13 and I never thought anything bad about it,neither did anyone that I knew.your thoughts on this issue reflect the same thoughts of the politicians that want to try and stop some cool things by labeling it something that its not.if this cartoon offends you then movies showing real animals should offend you too since that they are both the same as stated at the beginning.
Although I don't have an exact sales figure, the SatAM "Super Sonic" DVD did in fact sell well upon its release in early 2002. As a result, DIC planned to release another one and claimed as much on some prominent SatAM websites via email. This was before the show became entangled in its current legal mess.

I can't wait to see Craig's response to this =D
lol,its true though, think about it.How many cartoons can you name that had an animal in it,that had no more or less clothes than sally and they released it on vhs with no one (none that I've heard of anyway)complained about it.I can think of at least 10.duck tales, chip n'dale rescue rangers, that one show with the bear flying the airplane, etc.those are old cartoons but I can even tell you other shows just like it on cartoon network.another thing,i've met a couple people like craig with his opinion about sally but my question is why they are so fixated on her alone.sonic, tails, antione, rotor, dulcy, etc don't wear cloths either or not much but nobody ever mentions them.
You're so right. That naughty, naughty Craig just has a fixation on naked female squirrels. For shame, Craig. For Shame.
I can't help it, the naked squirrel made me uncomfortable in a way or a place that's NO GOOD!
The man with the black shirt and white collar splashed me with water which burned and daddy whipped me until I stopped looking at naked squirrels.
No child under 13 should have to endure that.

All due seriousness, I was joking around. SatAM has nothing in it which countless shows haven't had for countless decades, even if Rookie would scream blind that a character dying and the main character shedding tears would make it adult prize winning material.
If I remember correctly, even the 60's Spider-Man show had that, and I'd fall off my chair laughing if that got any form of Parental Guidance rating.
ok good lol for a minute I thought you were serious
the show was being screened over here in the UK on the kids channel POP i taped some episodes from it a while ago but i think they stoped showing it and are just showing re-runs of AOSTH so i dont know if its still being broadcast
thats why i want a SATam dvd boxset come on Anchor Bay, Sega, Dic anyone make it happen. PLEASE!!!!!!!
Someone needs to kick Disney in the ass and get them rolling on this. I know it is most likely them causing all this legal trouble. At the very least they could allow someone to release AoSTH on DVD. Or at least put it back on Toon Disney so I can record some of the episodes.
You can get the box set on eBay for about fifty bucks. I won mine yesterday. There are quite a few for sale, but link removed to at least one of them. I wanted to make sure I won my bid before telling anyone else about it. I'm just so cool like that.
Oh... and commence newbie bashing. :nn;
True, but who knows when they'll be pulled for being completely bootleg/illegal.
Ah well, good luck on them if you want em. I'd personally want an official release but thats just me = 3
Newbie bashing...?
Hey Miss Vellapo, let me/us know when you get your set...I want to know what the quality of these episodes are like...If they look like crap, there's no way I'd buy them, but if they look half way decent, they might have found another chump...
Well, that guy has zero user ratings. lol I did notice though that there is another guy claiming to be selling them. While he doesn't have a pile of ratings, all 62 are positive. I dunno though, I'd rather have them legal like. With the MPAA passing out lawsuits for people making/buying these I wanna be careful.
hey i ordered a SatAM dvd off ebay a coulple of days ago.
its legal, what they do is they video the show. plus i only pay $45 for mine.
EDIT: here is a line from family guy the movie.
Stewie goes 30 yrs in the future and asks his older self qu.
Stewie: did they ever unfreese Walt Disney?
old stewie: Unfortunately.
Walt is in a container with the door open.
Sciencetist: Welcome back, Mr Disney.
Walt: Are the Jews gone yet?
Sciencist: uh, no
Walt: Put me bac in.
walt closes door
Quote:
its legal,
No. It's not.
Take a look for yourself this is what i brought (theres 1 left!)
looks legit enough.Too bad im broke right now, otherwise I would buy it. I remember about a year ago someone bought satam sonic dvd off ebay but it had both seasons on it.
Yeah it looks legit to me as well but how do we know if its a hoax or something?
And if it were real, why haven't i seen a great amount of bids on it?
probably because not many people know its even there 4 sale (i didn't)or just skeptic about its quality.
yeah, if that's legit, then where are the barcodes? Where's the trademarks and Copyright info? And why haven't we seen a bigger release of these things? It's not that difficult to make a fake DVD cover...That image of Sally on the back and the image of Sonic on the front aren't even from the cartoon series...they've been ripped from the comic...
The price is a little high, especially for something that just about anyone could make for 5 dollars...
To those that are totally unaware, those are NOT real.
A link with one of many examples (that was the original, there have been copy-cats since).
Don't waste your time advertising those DVDs on this board, because I will remove the link once I spot it.
There's only one SatAM DVD. That's all that is legal. Do NOT post information concerning any other SatAM DVD.
I hope it the final four epsiodes of SATAM put together as a full-length movie.
What...?
Sorry bout that link true red.
