Rumours have been flying around the Internet for years now about a Sonic The Hedgehog motion picture, however, one of these trails it seems may finally come into fruition. Film maker Richard Kuta has been working on an animated film based on the series known commonly to fans as Sonic SatAM, and has recently received approval for the project from Soloakai Animation.

After successful negotiations with SEGA throughout last year, Kuta and his co-writer initially pitched the film to IDT Entertainment, who mulled over the idea before eventually rejecting it. Since then the team proposed the film to Soloakai Animation, who were more than happy to take the project onboard.

With a studio on the project now and the likely green light from SEGA, it is likely that the project will go ahead and we will see the film in years to come. While the writers have been understandably mum on specific details, SONIC NEWS can confirm that they intend to emulate the art style of the original SatAM series in the film. UPDATE: New information indicates the film will be CGI Animation and not an emulation of the original SatAM animation.

With the release of the original series on DVD fast approaching, this could not came at a better time for SatAM fans who have been legion since the shows abrupt end in 1995.

Wtf? This is unexpected. Too bad is CG animation I would have like to see a 2D movie.

I have serious doubts as to whether this is true. And if it is true, then I have serious doubts as to whether it will succeed.

I wouldn't believe anything about this supposed movie until some solid evidence of it's creation is released. Afterall, it's being "made" by Sonmanic, who isn't exactly trustworthy to begin with.

And anyway, why would SEGA give rights to make a movie to someone who illegally sold bootleg copies of SatAM a few years back?

ensure them that SEGA hasnt approved it yet

This has been reeking of college fanboy who thinks that because he can write a script and give himself a "clever" studio name, that he's going to have a movie made; and that quote only solidifies my belief. I'm calling this total horse crap until we hear something from someone with an ounce of credibility.

On a similar note, Ken Penders has been trying to get his idea for a Sonic movie approved for some time now as well. Last I heard from him he was still trying to get it approved. The only piece I was able to get my hands on from Ken himself was a print of some conceptual artwork.

To be honest, I've really been turned off by the fact that this film is going to be CGI, if it ever gets to see the light of day, not saying that it won't, but the last thing we need is another CGI funny animal film. And yes, nowadays anyone can have a studio of their own, located in the comfort of their own home.

Solokai Animation

I'm not calling it fake on the chance that he may do it and I don't have any negativity towards it, but there's Solokai Animation.

SatAm the movie? I'm sorry, but Sega, who is currently been trying to get all subsequent Sonic spin-offs to resemble the new games and their storyline (see Sonic X) and keep everything sort of the same...

...that Sega is going to green-light a movie based on their franchise that bears no resemblance to the current form of that franchise, but instead resembles a spin-off cartoon that was cancelled years ago and doesn't resemble the games one iota?

And they're going to green-light its production by a studio who, based on a quick Google search, are so small they have no website and no mentions of them online except for this story, and that's assuming they even exist? And produced by a guy with no animation experience?

Pull the other one, it's got bells on.

I really don't want to be negative...But all I can be is negative. I honestily feel that the most that will come of this project is a first draft of a fanfic written in script format with maybe a few CGI mock ups.

Ben Hurst couldn't get season 3 of Sonic Sat AM.

Ken Penders couldn't get a Sonic Sat AM Movie.

If the major writer of Sonic SatAM and a professional writer who worked on the Archie Sonic Comic for about a good ten years or so couldn't get anything Sonic Sat AM to float then why would some random person be able to?

I would advise no one to get their hopes up.

Unlike some people here, all I have IS negativity, and I don't mind that one iota. Apologies if that offends anyone, but I seriously don't want nor see the occurrence of a Sonic movie based on a ten-years-dead cartoon series (even disregarding the successful comic book spin-off which still prints to this day), when it directly conflicts with the canon of the main continuity, the game series (even if the games' plots have, recently, been absolute trash at worst, corny as hell at best). It just doesn't make sense; you're catering to what is, for all intents and purposes, the vast minority of Sonic fans, and fan-service on THIS kind of scale doesn't happen to such a small portion. Let alone one from absolute nobodies, particularly when big-name people, like Ken Penders and DreamWorks, have been trying to do the same thing with roughly the same success as I've described.

It won't happen. It SHOULDN'T happen. If there WAS going to be a movie, it should be one based on the primary series (the games), but even then, the writing of that series must pick up the slack before it can happen (because the plots of the games lately are nowhere NEAR the level of a quality movie).

I'd love to see one, especially if it included most of the voice talent from the series. Though I couldn't see Jaleel White being able to reprise the role of Sonic as he is much older now and his voice has changed. I had given hope of there ever being anything SATam related ever again. But, come March 27th we will all finally be able to enjoy the series again without resorting to shady methods to obtain it.

Can I suggest we just ignore anything that Sonic Stadium reports? I get that they want to be the CNN of Sonic, but they should really be a bit skeptical about some of the stuff they "report". How many hoaxes have we had from them in the past year?

I do believe that now would be an excellent time to announce that I'm working on a Super Mario Bros film. I haven't talked to Nintendo about it yet, but I'm pretty sure I've got a green light for it. It'll be live action with CGI, and it's going to be a trilogy.

Stay tuned for more, folks!

About ten years ago or so, I would be excited if it was true that a Sonic Sat a.m. movie was coming out. Now, I am content with what we have and looking forward to the DVD. After all that Archie has done, there are few writers I completely trust with the characters.

I don't belierve anything sonmanic says as far as I could throw the guy. I'm still peeved from last year, when he had to sheepishly admit that despite having his plans for a movie "pre-green-lit" by Sega, he had so little clue about the industry that he was expecting them to stump up the cash.

So - in the absence of $12 miliion in his bank account - he had to go running around every fan site he'd been bragging on - not to mention IMDB - franticaklly asking them to delete the evidence. Annoyingly, they did.

I'd be a lot more willing to be apathetic if he didn't keep fooling people with this pseudo-profesional facade he's trying to use these days.

As per this The GHZ thread, it would appear that Sonicthehedgehogmovie.com is now a registered domain, to a Bob Repas of Elyria, OH, who supposedly was one of the tech guys at Penders' forum.

Just pointing that out.

BobR is Ken's buddy and techie and, from what I gather, confidant of sorts. So that's obviously got to do with Ken's movie proposal. Any way to know when it was registered?
