Mmmm kay, so the first few pages have already been posted: Sonic, Scourge, Metal Sonic and Metal Scourge attacking each other while Eggman drops the info on Dimitri that the entire Legion is nothing more than walking explosives. Dimitri won't be happy about that. Among other things...

Anywho, after Fiona shares her concern for the King's well being and he tells her to stuff it. Sonic comes to the King's rescue, only to get attacked from behind by Metal Scourge, you can see where this fight is going to go! While Sonic continues to play noble boy, Stalin (Miles) and Boomer watch. Stalin takes note of Sonic's selflessness, despite whoever it involves. The others remind Stalin what happens when you cross Scourge (Patch notes that his scar is no longer a worthless decoration, ha). Stalin shrugs it off and notes with Sonic around, it wouldn't take much to tip the scales of war in either direction. Hmmm, little schemer.

Dimitri heads down to the barracks to have a talk with Lien-Da. He drops the info that they're all walking bombs and she tears into him. Dimitri reminds her it wasn't he who came to Eggman, on bended knee, selling out the Legion while she was at it. She asks if he's thinking of turning to the weepy Guardian but Dimitri shoots down that idea after a pause, saying he'll think of something.

Meanwhile Scourge and Sonic are not having an easy go against the bots. The King demands Sonic come up with a solution and Sonic reminds him the only way to combat these foes and use something they weren't designed to withstand. Of course Scourge doesn't want to hear that but sics the Suppression Squad on the bots (In a reversal from the uber battle with Eggman).

In a short time, both Metal Sonic and Metal Scourge are destroyed thanks to the help of the Squad. Stalin notes they work quite well together with Sonic, and Blue can't disagree. Scourge asks Sonic again about his offer but Sonic shoots it down, saying he was so disgusted that he had no words. Scourge laughs it off and asks if Sonic is willing to try his luck, again. Sonic is no dope and tells the King that his lease will last a bit longer.

Back at Mobotropolis, Elias isn't too happy about Sonic's little excursion. Sonic tells the prince to shove it, saying when he's in the right, he isn't going to listen to ANYONE (What else is new?). Elias wonders how Sally dated him for so long while she remarks his stubborness has its appeal. Sonic's punishment happens to be...leading the next big mission?! And what would that be? Sally says that since Scourge took over their HQ, it's only fair to return the favor. Next stop, Moebius!

Side story is done by our own WB...

That aside, Scourge sneaks into Mobotropolis one night and runs into Jules, who he mistakes for another Metal Sonic. Scourge tells Jules that he's here for some late night fighting but Jules shoots that idea down, saying he'll do whatever it takes to keep Sonic safe. Scourge is a bit amused that Jules isn't afraid. Jules remarks that he doesn't fear Scourge because at his core, he's a coward. Mainly for doing his part to ruin the world, rather than uniting to fight for some great cause. Scourge isn't pleased and reminds him he's a world conquerer but again, Jules could care less. Scourge tells him how his dad united the world in a time of great peace but ten years later, everything had fallen apart. Scourge views himself as a violent savior, which gets Jules' goat. Scourge tries again to intimidate Jules but Jules reminds him that he's sneaking around at night and trying to intimidate a war veteran (Aka stop trying). He then says that there will be much to pay if Scourge destroys Jules (Aka Sonic is going to go World War Hulk). He asks if Scourge wants THAT on his head and Scourge decides not to bother, leaving with watery eyes, saying Jules is no different from his father (Denial!). Bernie shows and ask who he was talking to and Jules says no one.

Well, I suppose it's hardly surprising that Miles wants to bring down Scourge: his Prime counterpart has shown a desire to upstage Sonic in the past, and it was only his friendship with Sonic that stopped him from doing so. Metal Scourge strikes me as a completely unnecessary plot device: he's a robotic duplicate of the alternate version of the main character, or is it an alternate version of the robotic duplicate of the main character? Either way, it was pointless to introduce him if they were just going to smash him after two issues anyway. It would have been better if Metal Sonic had gone Metal Madness or something like that.

Dimitri seems to have a tendency to get in over his head, and in all likelihood either Knuckles will have to save his keister again, or he'll end up making a deal with a different devil to get out from under Eggman-and I hope that it's Finitevus or the still living Guardians (though the latter would only be a devil from the Legion's viewpoint). Scourge sneaking into New Mobotropolis strikes me as preposterous: Eggman's tried to get in for how long now, and Scourge did it no sweat? Still, I like the sound of the confrontation between him and Jules, and that little exposition of Scourge's history sounds fascinating. It's also nice to hear Jules getting a somewhat more impressive role: with his little "let's all pity the robot who'll never be alive again" shtick, you tend to forget that he was a soldier once. Maybe since he can't get back into his organic bod he should look into some upgrades and join the Freedom Fighters or Secret Service-that extra firepower could come in handy.

Should also be noted, but skipped by me that in the panel where Scourge's dad is standing majestically, Scourge is standing behind him, tugging his coat and looking very sad.

Hmmm

Not everything needs to be an Epic Battle of Epic Proportions. I thought the idea of Metal Scourge was great and I never expected him to live out this issue (although I'm surprised Metal Sonic got destroyed so quickly, especially given the solicitations for #195). Metal Scourge - like Octobot - was a bit a joke, and that's acknowledged by the characters in the comic and makes it pretty cool in my book. It's a bit of subtle humour for the comic, and it's perfectly fitting for Robotnik's character too.

I do agree that I never thought Metal Scourge or Metal Sonic would survive this issue. I was a little suspicious about Metal Sonic when I saw the cover and read the solicit for #195, but as Dimitri stated at the beginning of this issue, it only took Eggman a couple of hours to build a Metal Sonic and Metal Scourge, so he shouldn't have much trouble making another one really quickly. Also, I don't think I would have liked Metal Madness or Metal Overlord for this story at all. As Matt said, not everything needs to be epic, everything would get old quick if it was. I don't think Metal Scourge was pointless and Metal Scourge served the purpose of showing the Suppression Squad more of Sonic and his code of honour and gave them the idea to possibly recruit him or have him help them get rid of Scourge.

The exchange between Elias, Sonic, and Sally does sound interesting. I am glad that even though Elias is upset at Sonic for going off on his own again, he is going let Sonic do his job instead of grounding him like last time. It is probably the best way for Elias to deal with Sonic, if trying to get Sonic to see his way doesn't work just let him do his job, grounding him didn't work the last time and the hero is always right of course(I think there is rule somewhere). In the back story, I am happy that Jules got some action in the comic. I just might get this issue.

Eggman's attempts have blatant, huge, attacks from above, and Nicole repelled that with her shield, which takes a lot of energy for her to maintain.
Scourge probably just slipped in through one of the many doors in the city wall - something that wouldn't suit Eggman much. After all, we saw how Sonic left the city in the previous issue, and it certainly seems like the mobians are free to come and go. I doubt Nicole locks everyone in at night, and if Scourge was being quiet about it, why should anyone notice him immediately?

The good guys are obviously benefiting from having an antagonist in Eggman who would rather, how to put it? "Kick down a wall than use a door?"

It'd be interesting to see in what ways thing have diverged, not just for Scourge, but for the other main cast. Nice to see Ian flexing his creative muscles here.
