One more preview for awhile; it's the Free Comic Book Day issue for this year. It's a retelling of the Naugus Games from Sonc Super Special #15; so if you didn't like Many Hands art and whatever here's a second chance for you to actually like the story.
who the hell is 'many hands' anyway
Just what it says "many hands" several artist threw in to get it done and in.
Pretty sure someone confirmed the identity of Many Hands. Or did I imagine it?
Well, I think that's what they said on BK but then again, my memory ain't the best in the world, either.
Search brings up a claim by Dan Drazen (in one of his comic reviews) back in '06 that Many Hands was actually Justin Gabrie, the former Sonic editor. I don't know how reliable that is, but he certainly believed it from what I read.
I thought Karl admitted to being Many Hands, though I could be wrong.
Karl Bollers was Benny Lee, though he wasn't the one to let the cat out of the bag.
It was hinted that "Romy Cachron" was nothing but a pen name as well.
Drazen did suggest that Many Hands, Romy Chacon, AND Jay Oliveras were Justin Gabrie according to Google.
There's a certain amount of support to that from a search of their names at the Mobius Encyclopedia. Each of them was involved with very bad adaptations of SatAM episodes, and they are of similar talent levels. That and it would suggest that Many Hands was responsible not only for Naugus Games but also the abomination known as TITAN TAILS.
The pen name was revealed by Ken Penders in a bout of petty internet territorialism against Bollers.
Speaking of Ken Penders, didn't he also deny ever writing the original Naugus Games despite him being credited on the first page?

Yeah, he did.
Can anyone explain why Karl would start writing under a pen name for the comic when he was already the lead writer? Seems pretty redundant to me...
Yeah, he did.

I don't get why the FCBD is such an inaccessible story. It can be an effective "hey fans, here is how much we've improved!" but how will a new reader react to a ridiculous looking wizard in a book with a Sonic 1 style cover?
WE ARE MANY HANDS!!! You're all wrong! But all seriousness aside, looks promising. Of course I can't read it until I get caught up, but still I like what I see.

The revelation came from Penders, who obviously wasn't too happy with anyone who dared suggest that Echidnas: 25 Freakin' Issues Later wasn't a canon future (despite the fact that the comic's editor was doing the same thing), thus failing to appreciate his genius and daring not to do as Penders told them to do.
What that twit sells, I don't buy, I shovel. He's about as credible as sonmanic/Rich Kuta.
Apparently, Karl took on the pen name to write under a different style to see what kind of response it got. His "Benny Lee" stories were generally light-hearted and sillier compared to his usual work.
Well got the issue today. The story and art is definitely a step up from the small amount of scans I saw of the original issue. Steven Butler was also a lot better this issue than any of his recent stories on STH. Might be attributed the the new colorist and inker that seemed to work better with his work, maybe. Also, new letter as well.
The story itself was alright, though. Nothing to write home about, just a fight with against Naugus, and Sonic ends up tricking him to get past him to get the pile of rings that was behind him to transform into Hyper Sonic to send Naugus back to the Zone of Silence. Seems to be all in a flashback, with the current stuff taking place between 224 and 225 as Sonic reminisces on his recent adventures for the new readers to catch up on.
There was also some character bios, including: Sonic, Ixis Naugus, Eggman, and the Freedom Fighters then and now; there is some new retconing of a few things in order for some of the old material to make better sense. Finally some pin up of some guy named Evan S., I think.
Overall I liked it.
I missed thsi issue and to be honest, I'm really mad at myself. I would like to view this issue, see the bios and all >>.
