I was wondering, supposed Sonic and the Secret Rings was announced to be the last Sonic-related game? Could the comic (both varieties) survive or with the death of the Sonic game franchise, would the comics die too. Do you think they could keep on going?
I don't see why either of them wouldn't survive if the games stopped. When you think about it, both series got their base off of television shows, and Archie's original has been going for about 13 years since SatAM was canceled. From what I've seen, aside from being the reason the comics exist in the first place, the biggest impact any of the games have had is the creation of a few adaption stories that have not really altered the main plot line in any way with the exception of the continued inclusion of Shadow. Before that, the biggest effect was introducing Amy from Sonic CD and before that was Knuckles. Granted, he got his own series (which didn't last long from lack of reader interest:"> ), but he's been around so long that I think it would be hard to find anyone who can imagine a world that has Sonic, but no Knuckles in it.
I highly doubt it would contiue.
For oe thing, if Sega decided that they didn't want to contiue producing games, they'd probably stop licensing products. That means no more comic.
If the comic did continue, it would eventually be unable to attract a sufficient number of new readers and it would lose money. Then Archie would cancel it.

i have to disagree there. since Sonic is archie's top seller, there's no way they'd cancel it. Archie Sonic probably won't get many new readers, but it's not gonna lose enough to warrant cancellation. besides, i think sonic X will give them enough game influence while Archie sonic will continue doing what it's doing.

this i do agree on though, they would more than likely stop licensing.

Archie doesn't care about its "continuing readers" like you and I, who make up a very small percent of its comic book sales. It depends mostly on "impulse buying:" nine-year-olds who know the character and see the book in the supermarket or bookstore and want it, while theor parents figure, "what the heck, why not. It's not even three bucks." these folks may buy a couple more issues or they may never bother again.
Personally, I started as an impulse buyer. I bought #35 on impulse during a road trip when I was seven. I ddin't even really think about it again until I bought #48 a year later and then stayed on.
If the games stopped, impulse buying would drop dramatically. If that happened, the book's sales would fall enough to axe the thing, which Sega would probably encourage anyway.
It's kind of sad to think about the way the Archie comic still depends so much on the game franchise although it is, imo, a far richer and deeper universe
Wasn't there some attempt by KP to have the story turned into an animation by Dreamworks some years ago? I think doubt over the rights to the Archie-sonic universe killed that.
According to Ken and BobR, the movie was in the pipeline until Sonic X was announced and became the mainstream animated Sonic continuity.

Not really, since it's licensed from the game franchise.
Oh, suppose. I thought you ment it was the last game. You had me scared.
No,no, no, rest you little head UDC!
