Sonic: (sees Sal on bike) Hey! It's the Marvelous Queen!
Sally: I'm still just a princess, but thanks.
Sonic: I let you have that one.

If Sally's going back to her up-herself SatAM self, then I'll be doubly unsentimental if she meets with a more permanent accident.

I'm another member of the school who doesn't understand the fuss about more game references, though.

Sonic's target demographic's actually young enough to not remember SatAM even airing, and the games've had a rebirth in popularity. Evolution towards a form of Sonic that won't seem like a foreign language is pretty natural in those circumstances.

Actually, Eraniceas, those figures where wrong. Secret Rings in fact sold 83,000 copies. They where updated on several sites the next day.

The game is selling at a faster rate then any other 3D Sonic game. It's doing good.

Well good for it. But how's it selling in Japan? Does anyone know? I mean, I know it only came out five days ago over there, but that's the audience Sonic Team seems to be trying to win back with their RPG-inspired story elements in games like Sonic '06 (and it was to no avail).

But I only hope that it doesn't end up being the direction Sega decides to take the main series should it prove successful. On-rails gameplay gets pretty old pretty fast.

And why do people keep spelling my name wrong? It's Erinaceus...Latin for "Hedgehog".

on rails or not, its pretty bad that our rodent has to have his boundaries because he's too fast for his own good, I loved secret rings I hope that they release a sequel to it, as well as another DS title, Nintendo is all sega can release good Sonic games for it seems, since the games are crap when they come out for Microsoft or Sony..

Sonic games for it seems, since the games are crap when they come out for Microsoft or Sony..

Sonic Heroes for the original Xbox was pretty solid...and the 360 version of 2006 was superior to the PS3 version. Sonic Team only seems to have an aversion to Sony platforms.

And it makes no sense for the comic to root itself into the modern games, either.

Adding vehicles/characters from the video games is not making the comic "rooted" to the video games. If adding something from a Sonic universe made Archie "rooted" to it, then Archie would be rooted to every Sonic universe under the sun--and it isn't. Acknowledgements to other Sonic universes (particularly considering Archie IS a Sonic universe) isn't changing Archie from what it is--it's own unique universe.

Sally can't go back to her SatAM self. Sally has developed into a far deeper character in Archie than she was in SatAM (same goes for the other SatAM characters). Sally has never lost her attitude from SatAM though (same for the others). So, that should be expected to be seen whether one likes it or not.

The only "SatAM characters" that can be at times a little more difficult to place are Sonic & Tails, and that's only due to Archie's original mixing of SatAM/AoStH/Sega personalities within those two--and even those two I feel had their SatAM personas adapted into the comic and expanded upon than their AoStH or Sega personas.

What I meant, Red, was that she was going to start showing those traits again. I know that she's developed - I've actually quite appreciated the way that we've watched her go through a nervous breakdown and depression in all but name.

But if she's going back (superficially, anyway) towards the arrogant little girl that she was in SatAM and rather than learning from her experiences in that respect, I reserve the right to still dislike her. 🙂

Erin, I really don't see what the big problem is with a few references from the games here and there, so long as the comic doesn't try to stick too closely to the games' storylines like they did with the Sonic Adventure adaptation, which was sadly a bit of a trainwreck...

It's not as if they can give it up entirely: Sonic is STILL Sega's property, after all, and they'll get annoyed if they don't get some product identification now and then.

The way Ian's doing it now, just a few quick references and "Chao cameos" like that, is perfect so far.

i disagree, i really liked the SA adaption. i was one of those guys that didn't find a reason to buy a dreamcast to play it, so i liked being filled in by the comic. i played SADX later, but i still thouroughly enjoy the comic adaption. and everyone has to admit that Sonic Vs Chaos ranks among the greatest fights ever in the comic.

I am glad Sally is getting some spark and attitute back, after all one can't and shouldn't be depressed all the time, as well as there are signs that her relationship with Sonic is starting to rebuild. I didn't find her banter with Sonic annoying in Sonic Sat a.m., I thought it could turn playful and fun at times.

It is back on. I love how Sally's hair is done in this issue. It looks natural. I laughed when Sonic said to Bean, "Where is your off-button?" and Bean replied, "Please consult your owner's manuel". I just find that line funny! At first, I was distracted by the choice of coloring, but then I realized it takes place at sunset and under moonlight.(Which is evedent with Sonic and Bean's fight siloueted under the full moon) Overall, I'm impressed with what I saw on the scans.

Okay, I went to the local comic shop and found that they had the issue in, so I bought it. Here's my review:

The Good: Yardly! made Nack look totally awesome, and Jensen picked out the right eye colors: Nack: red, Bean: red,and Bark: light blue. Exactly the eye colors I would have given them. Bean was hilarious, and the games refrences were present but not too much. Nack's tail bounce was also a nice touch.

The Bad: Nack went down WAY too easily, and he wasn't even shown getting beaten, Sally got the better of Nack for the gazilionth time, the other villians also went down too easily, Eggman hired Nack despite saying in "Songoose" that he had "failed his test", the Marvelous Queen bike came out of nowhere (it wasn't reffered to as that anywhere else, save a small mention by Rouge), and Nack is now going to jail AGAIN.

The Unknown (I mean ugly): Nack's "lazer weapon" still looks like a jetpack. Julie-Su's gun looked better than that, and that was alllowed. This whole no-gun policy is the stupidest...

Nack's been shown as easy to beat up throughout his entire run. Triple Trouble, Mecha Madness, Heart Held Hostage, etc. - he's never been a good fighter, and it wouldn't make sense for him to be. Why are you complaining about it now?

Well by looking at the scans, I have to say that it looks pretty good, but one thing that I find funny is the fact that Amy will never learn, I mean when you look at the cast at the bottom of the 1st page, Ian calls her (The Would-be love interst)and on the 1st page she ask Sonic, with a sly look I might add that If Ant's proposal to Bunnie is giving him any ideas, and in which repiles "Not a One, Amy."

I mean has that girl forgotten that although she may older (around Sonic's age) in apperance that in this comic book world of Sonic, that mentally and mature-wise that she is still that 11-12yr old fan girl who first appeared in the late 20's-up to-the late 70's issiues.

Now before any of you say, "Well hey she's a freedom fighter and has proven her worth and matureity". , that may be true, but it seems when she's around Sonic she reverts back to her old-self, I mean we all saw the real reason why she wanted Julie-Su to personally train her.

I hope Ian points that out in a future issiue.

But otherwise I can't wait to get this issiue, looks really good!

Ps. if want more Bunnie and Antione go to my youtube site and find the AMV When I First Saw You , I made it espeaically for them. ;)

I don't see why the guy was compaining about the Sega stuff when this ish had more SatAm fanservice than the last year combined. I mean, you had all the freedom fighters on a mission. What more do you want?

Rouge's plan was very implausible IMO.

My favorite scene Julie-Sue was all ticked for having her dreads used to power the satellite, while Vector is laughing off camera.

Sonic calls the Chao Chronic? Has Ian not seen the "Chronic the Hemphog" T-Shirts.

I like this new "Sally" character. Maybe they'll keep her on the team.:p

Oh, I dunno, you think it may have something to do with the fact that this is like her actual personality and character traits of every single piece of media she's been in EXCEPT the comic, where she had no personality or character to speak of? I don't understand what you're complaining about, besides the fact that it's not SatAM.

I don't see why not, Vec. Since that scan works best in conjunction w/ an earlier scene, I have combined two pages. So bear in mind in won't look precisely like this in the comic. It'd be fairly easy to seperate the panels if you prefer.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I realize Photobucket does not 100% work but it is the best free site I've found for imagehosting. P'raps SHQ would be intrested in hosting some?

Rogue=delusions of grandeur. I guess it goes without saying that they will continue to push this Knux/Rogue/Julie-Su love triangle...so like when will Tails get one...:p

And this is like the funniest page I've seen in some time. Now if I can only find the comic...

well i got the issue, it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be, but the setup was extremely weak. i mean come on, Rouge steals the master emerald. that just wouldn't work, for the obvious reason of the destructix, locke, and dr.finitevus.

now i know that locke could beat her if he had to using the chaos force, I'd find it hard to believe that she could take on all of the destructix, and The only things we know about finitevus is the fact that he didn't even REGISTER on Hunter's machines. so yeah i just doubt that it could happen.

all's this issue seemed to serve is that bunnie and ant are getting married, and the possibility that sonic and sally are a tiny bit closer (making SATAM fanatics go insane and numerous crappy topics come up on message boards all over the internet)

Are you sure you read the issue? Rouge didn't get the ME, and if you saying the FFs shouldn't have believe Rouge because of the Doc, Locke, and Destructix protecting the ME, I'm not even sure that they realize they are. As far as I know, the only ones that knows about the Destructix being free are the citizens on Angel Island.

Well, maybe, but then again villains like Nack and Double B probably would realize that she couldn't get it, but I would think Mogul would realize that unless the removal of his powers resulted in the removal of some of his intelligence as well.:p

Well, Nack, Bean, and Bark were under orders from Eggman to investigate it, and Eggman knew it was a trick. Mogul probably showed up in the hope that he could get some of his power, thinking that if it was a trap, his magic and natural strength would have got him out. As far as the plan goes, it wasn't the best way to do it, but then again, Rouge doesn't have the best strategic mind. She's intelligent enough, but doesn't strike me as a tremendously skilled planner.

I've been becoming more and more accustomed to Yardley's artwork over the last few months. He seems to really be taking an interest in how to draw the characters correctly and how to actually make the drawings and the narrative work together. I don't know about anyone else, but I found this issue's main story some of the prettiest leading work since Dub left.

Story-wise, this did come across as utter SatAM fanservice, with everything short of some FF equivalent of "'Cos we're Sonic Heroes!" being yelled in the subtlety stakes.

Quite a bit of stuff that's been left hanging since 134 seemed to be being worked with here. It was nice to see anyone - let alone Ant, who I've warmed up to more and more ever since Upgrade - finally talk Sonic into seeing the bigger picture and realising his own shortcomings.

Although for me, the most affecting panel was Sally having independently figured out the same thing. Just the subtlety of those tears dripping from under the binoculars expressed so much more private anguish than any amount of pity party-throwing gnashing of teeth.

That made Sonic and Sally promptly going back to banter and the same sort of immature crap that's dogged them both (in the form of that Marvellous Queen exchange) sort of disappointing.

I class the following as commenting purely on the storyline at hand and stating an opinion, since the storyline involved how all of the FFs related to one another. I don't expect to start a relationship discussion out of it.

What's getting me is where this might be heading. I've actually enjoyed having something resembling a break from the Sonic/Sally train wreck of watching two largely unsympathetic smart-mouthed teenagers smarming at each other.

From Sally's expression in that classic SatAM pose in the last panel, I wonder if she's genuinely uncomfortable or quietly enjoying herself. And even if the two of them did realise that they'd matured past the sarcasm, took Ant and Bunnie's advice and grew up a bit, I'd find the comic voluntarily returning to that will-they-won't-they on-off rut a massive step backwards.

no offense or anything, but do you mind not advertising your video topic in other topics? it doesn't add much to the current conversation.
also, again not trying to be offensive, i don't really feel like watching videos of someone talking about a comic, i think that is what we've got this message board for.

Sorry!, Just trying something different, anyway it was a very good issiue, I mean this is what the comic should be, a fair mixture of all the Sonic Media (SatAM, Sonic X, Sonic Games, and orgianl stories)combined into one story for everyone to enjoy, don't you agree? Anyway I give a 10/10

No I do not. While I enjoyed soem aspects of Sonic X, it is too diff'rent a universe to mesh with the large cast and by-now layered backstory of Archie Sonic. Which is why it has it's own seperate comic. I don't think the comic can, will, or should be a "fair mixture of all the Sonic Media". Even if such a lofty goal coulda been reached this issue would not be the example I'd choose.
Yes, I thought it was a good but not for the reason you stated. I liked the art: the soft pastels set the mood nicely and established the time of day,the quirky JulieSu sightgag made me grin, an it was nice to see characters interact without becoming "talking heads": a good balance in my mind between action and introspective. Will everyone like it? No. And those who did enjoy it most likely have diff'rent reasons than mine.

"That made Sonic and Sally promptly going back to banter and the same sort of immature crap that's dogged them both (in the form of that Marvellous Queen exchange) sort of disappointing."

I felt the exact opposite. To me, it was Sonic and Sally showing they were both over the tension of the break-up, and comfortably back to talking to each other and trading quips.

I thought the issue was very good for a great many reasons, mostly because the tensions between characters has definitely been softened. As a fan of swashbuckling movies, I do not find banter at all immature. Would you consider the quips traded between Will, Jack, and Elizabeth in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies immature? I think that it adds to the comic.

Their relationship is part of the issue, so we shouldn't get in trouble. While I do like Sonic and Sally's banter, I understand why some people, like Sam, would find it immature. I, too, want Sonic and Sally to both realize their mistakes so they can make their relationship grow. On Sally's part, I want her to admit to Sonic that she errored in asking Sonic to quit the FF's. Also, Sam I have come to like the more mature Antione too, and "Upgrade" really sold me on his relationship with Bunnie. I was just as upset when they broke up as I was about Sonic and Sally. Sorry, if I got too much into relationships on this post, I probably would have saved it for the sat a.m. message board(assuming Sam post there)if it didn't go funny for April fools.

Lastly, I looked though the issue last night at the bookstore and almost decided to buy it. The only thing the kept me from buying it was the art work, it did seem strange to me.
