I have to admit.

Sonic X's new direction perplexes me. I have no idea what they're going to be doing with that one.

So Silver finally makes his debut, ace...

I'd love to know just how Ian works him in without all the time travelling aspects he mustered in 06, never been a Sonic X fan really but the new direction intrigues me too. It's very similar in title to my own Sonic universe fanfic adapatation, lol.

Sonic Universe? Sounds cool. I take by the title there will be the different aspects of the different versions of Sonic. Btw I haven't being keeping up with Sonic X for a while when was Shadow introduced ?

Who said Silver doesn't time travel to get to the Hedgehog battle?

Does poor Sonic X have to change it's name to expand it's storytelling capabilities? My over-organizing OCD side is causing an eye twitch. But I'll deal, lol.

And after this... Sonic In Tokyo! *Tenchi joke ftl!*

Silver comes to end this arc, heh.

I think Ian would know better than to throw in Time Travel as well into all the Inter-Dimensional goings on at present, I don't see Silver being a time traveller in this somehow...

As far as I know, Ian thinks that Silver is from two hundred years in the future, going with the Sega Sonic canon. He might make it different than the Sega Sonic canon, but if he's going to go with that, you can probably guess that Silver will be from the future.

Well, I suppose it was bound to happen sooner or later. It'll be interesting to see Silver in the comics, though I'm hoping more that this signals Blaze's imminent return. It's good to see good ol' Rob survived what happened to Albion, though they'll have to explain that-why would Eggman destroy Albion but spare Mercia's inhabitants? Anyway, I'm also kind of ticked that the real Omega isn't going to show up before Silver (if at all) but it'll be nice to have some new blood. I just hope Black Doom, the Black Arms, and Mephiles are gonna show up-the Rogues Gallery needs an update from the Sega-verse.

I'm confused. Is "Sonic Universe" the title of a multi-story arc, or an entire comic series?

It's a completely different comic series. We don't really know much else other than something in SX triggers the new series called Sonic Universe.

Enerjack, you never know when Omega will show up. It looks like his anti is coming up, so he might appear anytime between 192-195. He could also show up later, we don't really know at this point. As for Mephiles, I think that Ian is going under the assumption that Sonic 06 happened in the comic, so I'm pretty sure that Mephiles no longer exists in the comic as well. Also I'm sure you know this, but the Black Arms and Black Doom have shown up int he comic, they just haven't fought Sonic and crew (as I'm sure that's what you meant). Although, I don't know how long it will take them to finish off their war/battle with the Xorda. Regarding Mercia you can follow this link, it might shed some light on what is coming next http://bumbleking.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=815 .

So glad to see Rob again =D

I'm very interested in the Sonic X shakeup too. Am I right in assuming that #40 will be the last issue of Sonic X and the new series will take its place? Or will X, Universe, and the regular comic all run alongside each other?

It hasn't really been made clear at this point, Ian hasn't really said anything and the preview doesn't say much itself. All Ian has said is that Sonic X is over. http://bumbleking.com/for...p?t=923&start=0 So I'm guessing that Sonic Universe is starting at #1, and it sounds like it picks up by finishing the Shadow and Metal Sonic battle and possibly picking up at whatever happened at the end of the Sonic X comic. Again though, we don't know much and Ian seems to be keeping it a secret at the moment.

Judging that the name of SX #40 is "The End", I would think so. You can also read it from Ian http://bumbleking.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=923 . Basically, they're breaking almost all of their rules for this final issue, and he states it's the final issue too.

I think Sonic X has had a tough time of it, trying to wedge itself canonically within the confines of what the TV show had laid out. I believe Tenchi Sonic Universe (dammit, NelStone *shakes fist*) may be an attempt to break from that and create an alternate "Sonic X". Ultimate Sonic, essentially. It may very well lead to more direct tie-ins with the games (the main comic always has difficulties adapting game plots into its narratives... I don't know how it would deal with an "Unleashed" Sonic).

But those are just my random thoughts.

Let's see...

Knuckles lasted 32 issues...which was a spin off of Sonic's most popular rival (at the time)

Sonic X lasted 40 issues...which was a spin off based on a TV show.

Sonic the Hedgehog was based of the SATAM show and early video games and is STILL going strong (1-195 onward).

Maybe it just goes to show that any spin offs from the main sonic comic don't last as long as the original? Granted there has been been only two so far as the Sally and Tails miniseries never took off.

I wonder why Sonic X was retired at 40. Considering that this issue 40 brakes any and all rules regarding the series up to this point, I wonder if Sega realized that the "stuck storyline" was a bad idea. But it doesn't seem to make sense as the show Sonic X is still airing? Why cancel a comic series if the show it's based on is still being broadcast? There is only two things I can see of this 1) It wasn't doing too good. or 2) Sega wants to try something different.

If everything was going fine, and the show is still on the air...why cancel it?

I'd imagine because of all the rules, Archie was running out of steam on ideas.

Just checking sonicblaster, but the way you're talking you're sounding like you think the anime is stiill airing new eps; you are aware that the show itself is over and that the eps airing are reruns, right?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Ian say he was keeping Shadow OUT of Sonic X because the angst hedgehog was -not- in the spirit of the light hearted attitude he was trying with Sonic X?

As for Silver, he has yet to find his proper place in the Sonic franchise, (his first adventure being erased from the timeline and Rivals not giving him a role in things yet since he still only show when Eggman Nega rears his ugly head). In a warped way, this can help Archie since Sega won't have as many ruthless dictates to give to the comic company regarding the character.

I wonder, what is the obsession with Sonic fighting all his clones? The idea sounds kind of dumb(to be honest). If there are some changes, I hope they are good ones. Also, I am a little disappointed by a seemingly lack of Sally in upcoming issues. Although, she may be in the issues, but not in a major role.

Spin Dashin' across the universe,
Wearin' super speedy shoes so blisters will not burst.
Spin Dashin' across the universe,
Changin' our voice actors so they can't rehearse.

Also whoever mentioned Mosaic, as cool as little strips from continuities and obscurities here and there would be, that works better as one page things, it wouldn't do as a mag. This definatly sounds like Ultimate Sonic. (Although Universe is an interesting name since thats the name of the transformers toyline where they stick toys that don't fit in with any established continuity =O)

Oh yeah, I know that the anime is over...but the show is "still" on the air. Reruns or no, the Sonic X brand/label is still being broadcast.

I'd imagine because of all the rules, Archie was running out of steam on ideas.

Well, if that was the case, I would simply get across to Archie/Sega and try to get those rules changed. Which Ian did for 40. But thats it, the comic series is over. Way not just continue under the Sonic X brand?

Sonic Universe? Who is going to buy that without the marketing push that Sonic X had. It had a TV show!

Is there a game coming out called Sonic Universe? Is there a new show being worked on called Sonic Universe?

I just don't think that by dropping the Sonic X label, that Sonic Universe is going to pick right up where Sonic X was...in marketability and readership. To me, it sounds like a Sonic Super Special run where it really has no real outside support and is a standalone issue. But I'm sure Archie and Sega have mulled over the possibility that marketing Sonic Universe would be different from the main series and Sonic X.

Do you think Sonic issues 193, 194, or 195 will include a adaptation of Sonic Unleashed?

Ian has already said that a adaptation has been made, but he's not sure when it will come.

All I need to know is who's outstretched hand is that? Some new villain perhaps or maybe someone who is a neutral being watching over the events at hand? I see this Scourge's war on Mobius arc is still going to last for a bit.

Yes. Infact it was a gameshow called Knuckles the Echidna. It didn't last long though because he never asked particularly hard questions =D

No, but he did have his own game. Plus he was riding off the success of S&K and Sonic 3. He was the MOST popular character besides Sonic, at the time. Now, Knuckles isn't even in the top ten of most favorite sonic character. Shadow took that spot...and I wouldn't be surprised if he got his own comic series now.

I'm just making a case for continuing Sonic X (as it had toys, books, DVDs, plushies all of which have done pretty good marketing wise). Sonic X was a spin off of the current sonic games...which is now being replaced with Sonic Universe. Which is a spin off of a spin off.

So a spin off is replacing a spin off as the next sonic book comic title. And it will add yet another sonic universe to the mix to keep track of, and Sonic Universe is such a fitting title...on that basis alone.

It's not that easy to change the rules. Sega wants to have the comic fit it into the Sonic X anime, so they can't just change the rules. Ian already commented that he is getting a little bit more freedom for the final issue.

I think Sonic Universe will sell very well, if only because Sonic will be in it. People continue to buy Sonic comics, and I'm sure that Universe will sell well too. Sonic Universe has the push of Sonic, and that will probably be enough. Not to mention it sounds like it may continue whatever happened in the end of Sonic X, or at the very least, the Shadow vs. Metal Sonic battle.

Intentional reference to the physics engine used in the very game Silver premiered in, or merely coincidence?
