HARE-UM SCARE-UM!!
Written by Joe "I ran out of knicknames" Edkin
Art by David "Thanks for the awesome sketch" Hutchison
Cover, as always, by Spaz.
This issue has two seperate stories inside, so instead of going scene-by-scene, I'll just go into both stories seperatly.
As we left off last issue, Sonic defeated the Alien robot which Tails and and Agent Westwood emerged from. The scene makes the evening news. A reporter on the scene asks Westwood whats going on. Westwood refuses to comment and stops Tails from commenting as well.
At the White House, the president watches all of this unfold on T.V., and has come to the stupid conclusion that the furries may be working with Eggman to take over the world. (This might have some sort legitimacy, if it weren't for the fact that Sonic has fought Eggman many times, and he was the one that stopped the robot in the first place.) He officially becomes the 2nd dumbest president I've ever seen. (You KNOW who's first.)He orders Sonic, Tails, and Westwood brought in for questioning. Westwood lies to GUN and blames everything on Sonic and Tails. Sonic and Tails say Westwood is lying, the GUN decides to go with Westwoods story, and Sonic and Tails wind up in prison. (Despite the fact that they only ages 10 and 15, and could not be tried as adults.)In jail, they walk by Eggman who couldn't be happier with the situation.
Meanwhile, at Chris's mansion Vanilla is concerned about the dangers her daughter Cream has faced being around Sonic and his friends. Cream and Chris try to explain to her that Cream is needed to help stop Eggmans schemes. (No, she's not. She's really, really not.) Cream explains that if she is in trouble, Emrl can help her. (Uhh, Cream, there's a little Chao on your shoulder that has saved your sorry butt more times than you can count. Which, being a Kindergardner probably isn't much.)Vanilla wants to take Cream far away from Station Square. Before the argument goes further, Chris' mother arrives and invites them to her summer home. So, a few pages later they arrive at the summer home at an island Chris' dad owns. Chris and Cream decide to check out the local town while Lindsey (Chris' mom)and Vanilla look around the house and chat.
Chris and Cream go to an abandoned Ice Cream parlor. Since Chris knows the locals, he decides to help himself and make a sunday with Cream. He notices it seems abandoned everywhere. It's quiet...tooo quiet.
To make a quote from Dead Rising "Almost as if.....everyone's already dead?"
Meanwhile Lindsey is showing Vanilla some of her movie props. One of them, a plot device from an episode of the anime that she should have left behind. AS they look around, they are oblivious to the faint voices in the background saying "Join us. Join us!" But at the Ice Cream parlor, C&C are not so oblivious as they see the possed townfolk coming thier way. They have appearently been possesed by, ummmm what was his name? King Boo? Big Boo? I forget. Thier solution to the oncoming zombie onslaught? Throw ice cream at them. (Cream knows all about throwing things like how she throws Cheese at her enemies. Yea, Cheese, who does all her dirty work while she sits on her fat can?! Well? Where's your precious Emrl now hunh? You ungratefull little......)AHEM!!
Anyway Chris and Cream run home only to find that their mother's are wearing the makeup that seems to be the hot trend on the island. KING BOO'S MAJORLY CREEPY FACE!! Bumm, bummmm, buuuuuuuuummmmmmm!!!
To be continued.
Hey, can someone post a scan of Vanilla's possesed face? It's pretty cool.
Review: Looks like the backstory that's been brewing has become center stage. The only problem is, my belivability factor is being stressed to the hilt. There's no way Sonic would be imprisioned. (Tails maybe, there's no imprisonment rights for Foxes that I know of.)
1. He was the one that stopped the robot.
2. He has Sam Speed, a police officer, as his aliby.
3. Neither he nor Tails can be tried as an adult at thier ages.
Plus they barely press Westwood despite the fact that he was in the robot as well.
That's not to say that there's not a good story here, but the small details are falling apart which could corrupt this whole story that Joe's been on for months.
As far as the second story goes, I hate to say this, but for a story that mainly involves Cream and Chris, it was actually pretty good. Unlike Sonics' story the plauseability factor is higheer since Chris mom would be dumb enough to take the seal that encased King/Big Boo to her summer home. Thinking it's just a prop. So, after she comes back a little while later the whole town is possesed. Makes for a good halloween story too.
But mainly I enjoy the fact that we finally get some character development around here. I was always wondering why Vanilla would let Cream go on those dangerous quests. I especially wondered why she would let her only daughter go into outer space. Looks like next issue Cream will have finally earned her mothers trust. (And then some! I mean, outer space? C'mon!!
David's art was well done, and Spaz's cover was awesome as always.
OVERALL 7/10
There were a few places in David's art that irked me, like the scene where Chris and Cream are running out of the ice cream parlor, and he seems to have trouble with the furry's facial expressions. They looked like zombies before the ghosts showed up.
I thought this was an okay issue, but compared to 'I Never Promised You A Chao Garden' and No Thanks For The Memories', sadly this was kind of a snooze fest <=
They actually had a flash-back with the possessed amy rose!XDD I was hoping that would be in there.
Man, shig, you beat me to reviewing this ish; that's what I get from procratinating writing it. Anyway, this issue was okay, but I could've done without the ghost possession.
I thought this was a fairly good issue. But MAN, I wish Mike would be a little less sloppy with the editing. I like the direction he's going in, but "Emeryl" and similar errors really get annoring, especially since we're led to believe that it's pronounced "Em-Ell."
Hutchinson definately struggles with Cream, but i thought his Sonic and Tails were FANTASTIC. Their body lnguage was very pronounced and much, Much improved over Tim Smith III. i really enjoyed this issue, though cretainly not as much as "No Thanks For The Memories."
Not a bad issue. It was nice too Vanilla visibly having something resembling a conscience, and a little return visit to the fact that when Cream believes she's doing the right thing, she can be pretty gutsy.
