I'm gonna try something new on this one. I'll be doing a seperate story review and art review. I'll add my opinions during the story recall instead of after.

"Switcheroo!" (AKA Majicadoola, Mysticapoola, "Bippetty, Bippetty, Bipp")

STORY: Ian "Brainiac" Flynn

ART: James "Freaky" Fry "Day" (See what I did there?)

COVER: Patrick "My own worst Enemy" Spazniate

STORY REVIEW: As you have seen in the first 6 pages, In an attempt to rescue the president, Sonic has had his brain swapped with Eggman. Sonic, (as Eggman) is trying to figure out what to do next (tapping his foot Sonic style), while Eggman (as Sonic), gets pampered on the couch by his not-so loved ones. Sipping lemonade while being happy to be served by his crush, Ella.

The news comes on and they recall the events. Chris and Amy laugh at Eggman's failure while Eggman (as Sonic) sneers at them. Telling them that it was an honour to fight Eggman and not to take him too lightly. Tails comes in with bad news. The prez has been attacked again, This time being kidnapped by Hector Drag of S.O.N.I.C.X. "Sonegg" (my new name for him) says "who?" and the gang has to remind him. Sonegg decides to try to be the hero (plus, he has to keep up his appearance so the gang doesn't become suspicious) and go after Drag.

Here's where the funny starts to come in. SonEgg's main problem is, he can't control Sonic's speed and keeps ramming into every wall and post trying just to get out of the house. It's a hilarious little gag that plays through the whole comic.

Meanwhile, "Eggnic" (my other new name) is watching the news from the base. He figures maybe this will work since Eggman can't make any world conquest ideas while not in his body. That idea goes out the window, when he sees that Drag has kidnapped the president. Not only that, but Sonegg is in hot pursuit. Hitting every conceivable pole and car along the way. The bots comment "Whoa! Ouch! He really bounced off that wall!" while Eggnic winces at the sight of his own body being battered. Eggnic tells the bots to get ready to save the president "To teach that upstart a lesson!" (Also, to keep his own face from getting too smashed.)

It should be noted that during that last scene Eggnic is running in place (then sweating profusely) with the crazy sound effect "Bippetty Bippetty Bipp" underneath. That's got to be one of the nuttiest sound effects I've read! This must be Phil Felix's contribution. Also, I think Ian missed an opportunity by not trying to have Eggnic forget he's not Sonic, and try to run as fast as he can to the scene, only to stop at 20 feet and clutch his chest in pain and collapsing. Realizing he's in a 40 year old fat man's body. Maybe give a short lesson in why it's important to keep fit. Ah, but that's just me.

Next, we see the President in Drags car. Drag tells him he wants him to sign into law that Sonic and the other furries are illegal aliens, and to declare them enemies of the state. The president says no way, but before the srgument can go to far, Eggnic almost hits them with the Egg Mobile, which he can't seem to pilot. Eggnic, and Sonegg fight it out, but neither are getting too far, since Eggnic can't pilot well, and Sonegg can't run straight. Bokkun and the bots see this and put two and two together. "We can do really good on this one" says Bokkun, as he and the bots grin and clasp their hands menacingly. Eggnic finally finds the mind-changing laser and starts to shoot at Sonegg. The two crash into each other, and into the limo. Drag ejects out of the scene. Ironically saying "You haven't heard the last of S.O.N.I.C.X.!" Which is kinda sad cuz' in three more issues, we will.

The president climbs out of the wrecked limo unharmed and thanks Sonic for saving the day. Sonic and Eggmans minds are back to the right bodies, just as the bots nab Eggman, and take him away. There's a completely padded scene with Sam Speed. Why have him there? It adds nothing.

Speaking of padding, Sonic comes home to a very padded mansion. Chris greets him with a baseball catchers uniform also heavily padded. Meanwhile the best scene is saved for the last page. The bots in full film noir police detective uniforms, are interrogating Eggman, thinking he's still Sonic. LOL! They even got handcuffs on him, a bright light right down on him, (Hey! three "ight" words in a row!) two slips of paper and a pen. All it needed was a cup of ice water just out of reach to complete the scene. Eggman tells them "When I'm though with you, there won't be enough parts for a blender!" Classic! I'd love to have this splash page to add to my comic art collection.

ART REVIEW: James Fry does it again! His style is just perfect. He starts with a splash page and ends with a splash page. When it comes to 3-D angles, he's dead on. I also liked the facial expressions on both Sonic, Eggman, and especially the bots during this whole issue. His work does look like more of your standard comic book than anime style, but I prefer it that way.

OVERALL: 8/10 Not the best issue of the year, but still a lot of fun. "Sonegg" smashing into everything in sight, and "Eggnic" watching and wincing in pain at the sight of his body getting battered were great spots. The bots were done particularly well too. It's a shame I will no longer have my funny book in three more months.

This has been kind of a Sonic X day for me. Not only did I pick up the latest issue, but also "Shadow and Chaos Sagas" on DVD. (BTW, if you are only gonna pick up one Sonic X DVD, this is the one. You get both Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 adaptions. You can't beat that.)
