Normally I wouldn't have posted this here, as not a lot of people seem to read Sonic X here (or they didn't comment in those old threads), but because this is supposed to take place after Sonic the Hedgehog #196 and lead us into Sonic Universe #1, I thought I'd create a thread for it.

SONIC X #40
"The End": A peaceful gathering of Sonic and his friends remains anything but when Shadow the Hedgehog and Metal Sonic crash the party - literally! Even Dr. Eggman is reeling in horror over the souped-up Metal Sonic, but that doesn't stop him from forming an alliance to attack the blue blur. Meanwhile, Shadow remains inextricably linked to Metal, the only one who can help him find his correct place in the universe. It's a mélange of friends, foes and overlapping alliances... and Sonic and his friends are caught in the middle! This issue's title is only the beginning, as it leads into a brand-new series called SONIC UNIVERSE that promises to chronicle the outcome of the Shadow and Metal Sonic conflict, as well as the further adventures of the entire Sonic-verse!

I love Shadow's expressions in the last panel of the fifth page and when he finds out that they think he's dead in that Zone. This issue shows a lot of promise actually.

I agree. Shadow's reactions to this world is great.

Still a bit iffy about the whole crossover thing, but it does seem amusing.

Issue seems interesting...don't care for the art style...

Yeah, some of the art seems kinda bad. Not as horrible as Ron Lim, but I wish Tracey or Fry or someone had been able to do this issue.

I'm hoping we get the S.O.N.I.C.X. storyline tied up, too.

i know this is slightly off topic, but since when could shadow jump zones? he just showed up in the new STH, i understand that he and metal could've jumped to the SX universe due to that engine but still.

Well, Chaos Control can be used for teleportation, freezing time, using spears and blasts, and ripping holes in the space-time continuum so being able to teleport to other dimensions doesn't really seem that far fetched now does it?

And given that their entry into Chris's world was caused by one massive Chaos Control accidently induced by Eggman, doesn't it make sense that Shadow would end up there the same waY?

The Chaotix Detective Agency is awesome, and deserves their own spin-off book! >8O

I hope I can post my comment here. It's about how I liked the final Sonic X issue. If not, I apologize. So I did like it. The issue ended on good terms. I won't go into details.

I may be slow on the uptake, but was that version of Shadow that was from the Sonic The Hedgehog series?

To answer Johnny's question, the Metal Sonic and Shadow were from the Prime Verse. I agree with Toby, I wouldn't mind reading a Chaotix themed comic book.

Well, I gotta say, whereas I expected this to be something I'd have to read to be in the loop for SU #1 (which isn't a problem for me, I get Sonic X anyway), I'm surprised to say it isn't mandatory at all. In fact, you don't really need this at all to be in the loop for SU#1.

As for the issue itself, I liked it, it was a nice bookend to the series. We got to check in with a lot of the characters who have appeared (like Big the Cat, S.O.N.I.C.X., Sam Speed, and Topaz to name a few) and get references to things that happened in previous issues (the Gran Gordo costume, some other Eggman costumes, the giant Leprechaun robot, X bot and a Dark Chao). One funny thing was Shadow's growing annoyance at everybody asking about the fact that he was supposed to be dead. It was actually also nice to see a glimpse of Shadow's kind side as he comforted Chris when he was crying. It was nice to see all the characters and those references. Eggman's ego is as big as ever, as well as his penchant to cause trouble (as he tries to sic Metal Sonic on Sonic and Shadow). Decoe, Bocoe, and Bokkun's fear and reaction at seeing Metal Sonic was pretty funny (in this Universe, Eggman has never made a Metal Sonic). It was interesting to see him so surprised to see Shadow and that he had the capsule containing Shadow in his base. I liked that Rouge wanted to see Shadow and was upset she didn't get there in time before Shadow used Metal to warp away. Lastly, the farewell on the last page was nice to see (though there is the promise that it won't be gone forever and that we might see it in future Sonic Universe issues).

Cheers to everybody who has worked on the book, it was a good light hearted read.

On to Sonic Universe news however, we are promised that SU #1 will finish the Metal Sonic and Shadow story when they get to Blaze's world and that the first four issues will be about Shadow and his escapades. We are also promised that Sonic Universe #5 will be about Knuckles and uncovering some mysteries about him.

Also, in honor of it being the last issue, I'll leave the complete summary to Shigamado (one of the books biggest fan, if not the biggest), as I know the summary and reviews were his specialty and something he liked to do.

Thanks, Bsonic10 for clearing that up.

Yeah, I was too surprised to see shadow in a capsule. I had no idea what had happened to that shadow in that zone until the very last issue. I felt the ending though, was good. It was sort of an "exit stage left" type of ending, sort of familiar during "Mobius: 25 Years Later" arc (I mean during the issue #144). But the crew sure does know how to sum things up. So, I too, was glad and to thank them for the sonic x storylines.

"The End"

Written by: Ian "Finito!" Flynn

Art by: David "Alfiedersien" Hutchison

Cover by: Patrick "Sayonara" Spazniate

As Jim Morrison sang, "This is the end, my only friend, the end." We are at the final issue of what has been a long arc for a series that was just supposed to be a short four issue run that turned into 40 issues!

STORY: Well, you know has happened in the first six pages. Shadow and Metal from the prime universe show up right in the middle of Cream's Tea Party. Metal gets away. Sonic decides to help Shadow find Metal, and shows him around his world. They visit the Chaotix rebuilding their house, and then meet up with Chris.

Upon seeing Shadow Chris gives him a back breaking hug hoisting him into the air. The expression on Shadows face is hilarious. (I've got to scan it later.) Shadow tries to comfort Chris. Telling him this is just a quick visit, but he'll be back again someday. (Yea right!! Frosty told me the same thing! "SNIFF!" The filthy liar!!)

A knock comes on Eggman's not-so-secret base. Bokkun angrily answers, but immediately flys off in fright of Metal Sonic. Deccoe and Boccoe run off as well. Eggman get's angry at them making noise while he's "Scheming". (Is that what he calls it when he's looking at pictures of Ella?) Metal Sonic bows in front of Eggman, and lets him know he's from the prime zone, and what orders he has for him. Eggman is very happy with this good fortune.

Meanwhile, Sonic and Shadow (who's having to explain again that he's not dead) are talking to Sam Speed. S.O.N.I.C.X. are spying in on the action through a camera peeking out of Sam Speeds car. Once, they see that Shadow's there, they decide to scrap the current plan they were working on.

During this time, Eggman is giving Metal Sonic a guided tour of his base, and explaining to him why he's such a genius. (Using the term "Genius" as often as possible.) He then takes off with Metal Sonic to try to finish Sonic off for good.

We then see Sonic and Shadow at the beach having a peaceful chat near Big. Sonic' asks if he'd like to stick around. Shadow says that it's tempting because it's more peaceful, but that he was created to protect his own world. Just then, Eggman and Metal show up. Shadow grabs Metal and uses Chaos control again. In a flash, Shadow is gone and Eggman is left all on his own with no Metal Sonic. He then says "Just Kidding!" and turns tail and flys away.

Crashing his little ship back to his base, Eggman makes a panicky run to the lower depths of his base, and finds the original Shadow of their world still in suspended animation. "You're still here.... then what did I see out there?" He ponders.

Sonic's running back home when Tails, Amy, Knuckles and Rouge catch up with him. Sonic explains that everything's okay, and that Shadow has left to return to his world. Rouge is a bit upset that Shadow never said hi to her. Chris, looking a bit sad, asks if Shadow's gone again. Sonic reply's "Yeah, onto another adventure! And come tomorrow, so will we!" Chris says "Yeah!"

The final page has All the mansion residents and Rouge and Topaz (On Tanaka's arm.) With Sonic and Chris saying "To the next adventure!"

REVIEW: An all around funny and light-hearted story. Ian ends the series by giving you a tour of the comic's wacky characters, back stories and light-hearted themes though the eyes of Shadow. It's practialy and ad for the back issues. Like, "Hey kids! Look at the wacky stuff you've been missing out on!"

The expressions on Shadows face through the whole issue were hilarious. Especially when Chris grabbed him like a rag doll and hugged the crud out of him! I also liked the "Calvin and Hobbes" style ending where it's and end to a series that doesn't feel like it's the end. With SU around, maybe it's not. Some things in the book were not resolved. Like who the true leader of S.O.N.I.C.X. was.

The art however, was Hutchison's worst. His heart just didn't seem to be in it. When characters weren't off scale, they just looked static. Like a kid who makes scenes out of colourforms. (If anyone remembers those.) He did fine with expressions though. Mostly Shadow's funny expressions, but he did a good job with Rouge who did look emotionally hurt.

The coloring was poor as well. Vanilla's dress was the wrong color trough the whole ish, and some areas were too dark like Charmy's closed eyes. You can see the line were they close in these bright, online pages, but in the book, it's all black.

The cover by Spaz was one of the best he's done on the book, and would make a great poster.

OVERALL: 8/10 Not the best issue this year, but it was a fun and satisfying end to the series..

I'd like to thank everyone who's read and enjoyed my reviews. I've been doing these since I was reading the Mobius forums. It was mostly because no one else seemed to take much interest in the forums, so I saw it as a way to drum up interest in the book and have something that was my own thing. I don't do reviews of the STH series because by the time I'm ready to write a review, the issue's been talked and reviewed to death by everyone else.

Oh, and one last thing. MORE FUN WITH MS PAINT!!

Blech no. The Chaotix of the mid-nineties, oh yeah definitely, but not this new Detective Agency one. I much prefer the old team of skinny walkman-equipped Vector, non-ninja cool-shoes Espio, no-nonsense Mighty, old-school no-faced Heavy and Bomb, and adolescent vestless Charmy. And MAYBE Julie-Su and Ray. Maybe.
