After a brief recap, we revisit Mecha confronting Robotnik, as Sonic and Rotor lie unconcious. A.D.A.M. cannot help, because he is being scrambled by some outside source. Robotnik uses some kind of reset button to bring Mecha back under his control-- seems she was being controlled by something else. Mecha and Eggman rush to escape the army of Metal Sonic Troopers, and Eggman comments on how useful the captured Shadow might be.
Sonic wakes up, but rather than attacking him the Metal Sonics seem to respect him. Sonic and rotor escape back to Knothole as the Metal Sonics state their mission: to destroy Robotnik and his forces, per Royal Decree.
Meanwhile, Eggman convices Sadow to join him, playing off of Shadow's love of Maria (his half-sister) and his hatred of Station Square's military.
In Knothole, Sir Charles, King Elias, Sonic and Rotor discuss the Metal Sonic troopers. During Sonic's absense, the troopers were built by Knothole's Brain Trust in Sonic's image, in order to replace the fallen hero. The project was shelved with Sonic's return. But Charles doesn't know why they activated or why they're ignoring the failsafe commands.
The Metal Sonics go to Knothole, apparently to destroy Hope. Shadow sees this on Eggy's screen and rushes to stop them. Shadow, Sonic and the Metal Troopers arrive at about the same time. Shadow goes into Hope's home, and Sonic attacks the Metal troopers.
Meanwhile, Jules and Bernie discuss their role as parents, and whether they should have stopped Sonic from leaving with Robotnik last issue. Suddenly an alarm sounds. Jules rescues two nearby children who are in danger of being attacked by the troopers.
Sally and Elias gather everyone into the Great Hall for safety, but Elias fears that Knothole will fall because of the troopers (althoug hwhy they're attacking Knothole isn't really clear). Sonic and Shadow fight off Troopers while hope and Rosie cower. Hope gets hit by a Trooper, and then Shadow tells Sonic that if Hope dies, so does Sonic. To be continued.
The backup story is an off-panel 5-pager. There's no Sonic-Grams or anything.
The main story was an okay story. A little confusing. Why the Metal Sonic Troopers attacked Knothole isn't clear. The art was pretty good, slightly above typical Lim fare.
We still have no clue who the villain is in this story. In my opinion, it's probably Anonymous, whoever that is.
Heh. I'm excited. I only read the first paragraph. I'm trying to break my habit of reading spoilers. XD
Off-Panel? More of that? **shudders**
Anyway, did Knux & co. or the other FFs not mentioned in your spoilers even make cameos as part of huddling/hiding/whatever?
Other than the characters I mentioned, nobody appears in the main story. Knuckles has a one-panel cameo in the off-panel story, as does King Max.
Honestly, this bothers me. No Knuckles at all, very little Tails or Amy, and instead of Ian's Chao story we get the Dulcy story and this Off-Panel thing. I hope that issue 160 marks the beginning of an upward climb for this book.
so the metal sonics were designed as the replacement for sonic? (sort of.)
that's interesting.
Yes. And, by the way, Sir Charles and Mecha both say at some point during the story that the new model is superior to any previous model.
Which begs the question of why Sonic is able to hold his own against several of them, when previous "inferior" models surpassed his abilities.
Wasn't Ian's first story meant to be in this issue?
Ian's first story, "See ya Later, Chao" part one, was supposed to run in issue 155, with part two in issue 156. Obviously, that didn't happen and we don't know now if or when it will run.
I'm sure Ian's "Birthday Bash" will run as scheduled, though, in issues 160-161.

To my knowledge isn't Maria supposed to be Robotnik cousin?

"This Side of Parodies" was yet more water-cooler self-indulgence from Mike Gallagher, written either under severe frustration that he's throwing his life away working for adamned comic book or because he actually thinks that the book is about him and his co-workers (News flash: it isn't).
Seriuosly the Off Panels sucks. Stop writing them into pages that could be use for the main story.

Psuedo-Sonic: Twas a joke, just caught sonic off guard once.
Metal Sonic {Sonic 25 and on..}: Powered by a Power Gem, hence excess power.
Silver Sonic: ..Was a big friggin robot partially powered by the Death Egg.
That Sonic that protects Station Square {Silver Sonic Mach II or some crap?}: Emerald
The second coming of Metal Sonic {ish 88?}: Emerald.
Umm am I missing something about them being inferior with some damn ace that makes them seem better, but ultimatly suck?
Oh and then the true Mecha-Sonic {39..}: Pwned all. Pretty sure that Sonic would pwn all those new robots running around.
I don't have this issue, but do these new Robo-Sonics look like the model for Mecha Sonic in that issue where Sonic and Tails were roboticized by those aliens {They turned Snivley and Robotnik human-if that jogs anyone's memory. 106 maybe?}
No. The Metal Sonic Troopers are based on the Metal from Sonic Heroes.
Got the issue by mail and all I can say is, I think I've gotten to not care about the comic SO much that nothing is making any sense to me.
So, since when did they decide to make Maria Eggman's half sister?
And another Off-panel? Well, I'll give it points for being better then the last one, but I like Off-panel when it's just those 3 panel little comic strips shown in the Sonic-Grams.

Just keep chanting this: "Issue 160. Ian Potto. Issue 160. Ian Potto."
You'll feel better.

Ironically, my subscription ends at #159 and even though Ian Potto makes me less uneasy, I don't feel like resubscribling again. I'm gonna actually wait a while, see the people's reaction and if they're generally positive, I'll probably get back to readin' 'em.

You're going to listen to others? You should judge it yourself. It's all opinion-based.
Yeah, but if you're not willing to spend money on the comic, then you have to listen to what others say. It's not any different than deciding to watch a movie or something after someone else gives their opinion on it or recommends it to you. Of course, you'll listen more to people who tend to agree with you in terms of taste than disagree.
Those new robots look pretty bad. I was hoping more on the lines of something like Mecha Sonic. Their spines are too long and they just don't look very threatening...

PLEASE tell me that this sequence isn't as lame as it sounds! One more threat/non-threat, like G-B-U's electrocuting stasis chamber or the terraforming whatchamacallit in "Sonic's Angels." This is just ...
Deus ex machina?
No deus ex machina; just stupefyingly bad writing.
You know I keep telling you all this that Sonic! Is not the hero he once was and cuz of it. He's going down hill fast (That what I think about Sonic maybe or maybe not?) if he don't stop soon his 15 year anniversary could turn into his self destruction! (Just like the Ultimate Warrior) now cuz of who he is Hope might die. Just cuz of his dumb showing off like he's done before in the past. Not only that but if the Comic keeps going down the path it's on now. Then this is a big if or maybe then we might or could see Tails and Sally hook up as a couple. Even if it's for a short time or not. (Cuz I could really picture Tails more as a King then Sonic witch as we all know he doesn't want to be the next King) Just intell Sonic does give up on being the dumb jerk that he's acting like right now!
Actually, Robotnik using an override to bring Mecha back under his control sounds like the first -smart- thing he's done in ages. I mean, if I made a robotic bodyguard, one of the first things I'd have built in is a way to reassert control in case anyone tries to turn it against me.
wouldnt control of this overide be transferred to whoever took ove the bot?

You got all that just from Sonic having a few problems fighting an army of robot duplicates of himself?
Quote:

How? He's getting a brand spanking new game (or several) and the arrival of Ian Flynn as writer during it, that sounds like a big step up.

No, Hope might die because an evil robot hit her. Sonic was trying to fight them off.

Which it won't, as our man Ian is taking over in a few issues and bringing two of the 3-B's with him.

Three words- age of consent.

Neither does Tails. And, sucky as it may be, Elias is reigning monarch now and any sprogs he has would be the next in line.
Quote:

Of course not. The override is just a simple remote that sends a signal to Mecha. It's actually not connected to Robotnik's computer network, because that would be silly.
i for some reason was under the impression this was a four part story, and im happy to see it's concluding next issue.
------------------------------------------the-Krayon
1 The villian from the Sonic/Image Crossover
2 Snivley, probably found out about the plans of the Mecha-Sonics
3 Tails who wants to impress someone (not saying)
4. Maybe someone new.
5. The villian from Shadow's video game
But that's all Am going to say.
Because we'll just have to wait and see on the week of the Feb. 22nd to find out who it is.
i'm really counting on it being Anonymous. it'd be nice to see the plate cleared a bit more before ian takes over. give him a fresh start.
Yes, but saying that it's "Anonymous" doesn't clarify things any further because we don't know who Anonymous is.
I really hope we find out who's behind this latest plot. Too often on this book we're left guessing for so long that we just stop caring.

THAT is ultimately why I bailed. Writers are supposed to make the readers care about what happens. When that doesn't happen, you get ... well, you get comics like Archie Sonic.

If, IF everything goes as planned (from this very moment), the Anonymous Conspiracy will be wrapped up by the end of the year.
One of my goals with being on SONIC is to wrap up alot of the loose ends out there while telling my own stories and moving things forward.
Patience. Optimism. Good things are a-comin'

I'm gonna hold you to that, Ian.

Ian, just curious but, do you have plans for villains BESIDES Robotnik?
Not including shadow,M,or tentatively snively?
Shadow technically doesn't count, also are you going to stray from overusing Shadow? (Penders Overused him way too much.)

IF everything goes according to plan, Shadow will have a fair amount of play in 2006. That's just how some of the stories came together. I can't really speculate on 2007 (let's not get too far ahead of our selves here!) but I don't have alot of plans for Shadow then. But that's way, way in the future. Anything's possible.

This is one of those moments where I can only cackle in knowledgeable glee and say "Wait and see." The solicits for S#162 (due out...Feb. 20th, maybe?) will give you a clue.
But everyone you named on your list, yes, will be addressed as well. I feel comfortable saying that.
I just wanna know what happens to Remington...Wow, I haven't said that in a while!
~Neo
Curious about that.
Eggman: Every morning when I wake up, I always have a fresh glass of grapefruit juice; squeezed daily from real echidnas. It's echidnalicious!
Fleetway called me...they said they wanted their Metallixes' back...Ian, there's ALOT of fans that are counting on you to turn the tides of this comic man, we're counting on you, no doubt about that, just do your thang man, lol outshine Penders if you have to
Those Were Sonic Heroes designs, not fleetways.
Those Were Sonic Heroes designs, not fleetways.
True, but the Metallix (Metal Sonic) army concept was from Fleetway.
I had a feeling you'd say that after i posted.
but you're right nonetheless.
Who be releved as the one behind the Mecha's.
more than likely Anonymous boy. or Uncle chuck.
I'm just going to repeat what I said earlier:

but we DO know that Anonymous is the character from the earlier story, so while we dont know who it is or what they look like, we do know what they've done previosly, which amounts to something more than "anybody"

"Anonymous" is, in this case, basically a synonym for "anybody." If we say it's Anonymous, it still could be anybody. All we know is that the same person is striking again.
By the way, I doubt it's Anonymous at all, because, based on information revealed by Mike in SX #5, the System Shutdown culprit will be identified in StH #159, while Ian says that the Anonymous conspiricy will probably be wrapped up by the end of the year. With that in mind, I doubt his anonymity will be blown in the next issue, before Ian's run on the book even began.

It's Magneto in disguise.
Well, it worked for New X-Men...
