Just some cliff notes, I hate writing these things.
- Tails and Sonic head to Angel Island to find Knuckles. Sally tries contacting other groups for assistance (to which she gets no replies), while Nicole sends a probe to watch Enerjak.
- Enerjak, meanwhile, defeats the dingo army, casting them into the desert. General Kage demands to face him one-on-one, instead getting disintegrated along with Dingo City.
- As Sonic and Tails head to the Chaos Chamber, Enerjak goes to battle with the Dark Legion, capturing the Frost Grand Master. He finally reveals the identity of the mysterious echidna...REMINGTON. He also returns "his dear friend" to his old self, and "liberates" him of his cybernetic enhancements...along with those of everyone else in the Dark Legion. Lien-Da pitches a fit over the development, to which Enerjak offers to leave her and the technocratic loyalists on Angel Island, while everyone else returns home to Albion.
- Back in New Mobotropolis, Dimitri demands a weapon be built to stop Enerjak, to which Nicole refuses ("I will note devote the nanites or this city to weapons of any kind"). Julie-Su is also flipping out at this point, as Knuckles hasn't been found, and Dimitri leaves, mumbling about "casting his lot with the more powerful side..."
- Sally finally makes contact with GUN, getting Rouge. She lets the princess know that they're sending their "newest and best agent", but is cut off before indicating who or where.
- Back on Angel Island, Sonic and Tails can't find anything at the Chaos Chamber, instead heading to Echidnaopolis. As they leave, Dr. Finitevus comes out of hiding to continue his work.
- Enerjak has already arrived in the village, however, and proceeds to warp everyone off the island to Albion just before Sonic and Tails arrive. Enerjak then reveals that he's been aware of Nicole's probe the entire time, and is on his way to New Mobotropolis.
- While Sonic and Tails fly back to assist, the Freedom Fighters and Chaotix line up to await Enerjak, with Julie-Su convinced Knux has been killed and now quite bent on blasting the demigod. Enerjak enters the city without trouble, promising not to cause harm, but is promptly engaged by Julie-Su, who promises to make him pay for what he did to Knuckles.
- Enerjak, however, finds Julie-Su's argument lacking. He hasn't actually done anything to Knuckles...HE IS KNUCKLES.
(Gasp!)
But that's not all my friends...we're treated to a backup story as to how this came to be, courtesy of Archimedes.
- While dealing with the aftermath of Dr. Robotnik's invasion, Archimedes senses that Knuckles had returned to the island, but arrives too late, as he's already been caught by the Destructix (KO'd by Scourge).
- Knux is taken to the Chaos Chamber where he meets Dr. Finitevus, along with the Remington (who doesn't recognize Knux), and Lien-Da. Dr. Fin then explains that Dr. Robotnik has destroyed 99% of the echidna people, and left Albion is ruins. The Frost and Flame Legions called a truce so that Dr. Fin could give them the power to stop Robotnik, but Knux instead takes matters into his own hands, running up and grabbing the master emerald, to which he quickly begins absorbing power.
- Ignoring cries of betrayal from Rem and Lien-Da, Dr. Fin tells Knux he can help him understand the power he's now absorbing. He convinces him that he must become something powerful enough to control his abilities, to which Knux realizes...he must become Enerjak. The transformation is already occurring as the discussion deepens, and a distraught Archimedes realizes what will befall the world...
