I've always wondered what furry characters eat. Are they all vegetarian? Are there animals still used as a food source, and if so what's the edict? Would pigs eat bacon? Am I the only one who's ever wondered this?

They've shown distinctions between Mobian!Animals and actual animals - for example, Sleuth Dog or whatever he's being called these days; and Muttski. I imagine they eat the "animal animals", since "Mobosapiens" are basically anthropmorph humans.

I wonder how Bunnie would feel about Antoine cooking rabbit for dinner. Coyotes eat rabbit...

I'm pretty sure he was classed as a coyote at one point.

But back to food, I'm sure they'd have their own personal eating habits. Sonic's a hedgehog, and still eats chilli-dogs, amirite?

A good question would be "What's in a Mobian chili dog anyway?"

That's an interesting point, actually.

The topic of "What would a society of anthropomorphised animals eat?" has been tackled a few times before, most strikingly in a comic I have laying around somewhere in my pile but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called! I shall have a good old rummage and see if I can dig it out.

It wouldn't work in the Sonic universe, but it's an interesting study of the concept regardless.

Post-rummage edit - It's "Open Season" by Kjartan Arnorsson, featured in issue #3 of the American Journal of Anthropomorphics. A brief synopsis is here - furry.wikia.com/wiki/Open_Season

WARNING - Don't click on his VCL archive if you still want your eyeballs intact, he also draws rather a lot of, um, more adult material, apparently.

*wanders off to wash his eyeballs out with soap*

*returns later to edit that link which wasn't working due to an errant full stop. :P*

Oh, and before I forget - COYOTE! :lol

Answer is they eat whatever they can get their hands on. Too bad Tommy was pulverized... good turtle soup. I mean I haven't seen Hamlin the pig anywhere lately, so he must've been made into Christmas ham or breakfast beacon.

In SatAM Sonic fished and made mention of eating fish sticks or was that Rotor... But they do eat fish.

^Oh no! What would the Forty Fathom Freedom Fighters think?! Try saying their name 10 times fast.

I would really have no idea what would they eat. They are clearly Americans; due to the map and Mobius being the new Earth which made everything more confusing as to how they are both related to eath other, showing that they would possibly eat anything Americans eat with their slimy, fatty foods they can get their hands, paws, tentacles, or whatever else they have, on. Phew! Long sentence. And yet, it dosen't qualify as a run-on.

Coyote what?
Oh great, Sonic # 4 has a great pic from what you are talking about Darkwolfe-and my scanner is broken!

"You don't understand. I've got proof. They need proof. I've seen it. I've seen it happening. They've gotta tell everybody."

"Tell them what? The forest's dying. Tree's dying."

"It's Chao. Uncle Chuck's Homemade Chili Dogs are made out of chao."

Sad, but fairly true for Americans. I doubt that that would be what they ate, however, seeing as we haven't seen all that many obese Mobians around, if any.

Then again, don't foxes eat hedgehogs?

Sometimes, Sonic likes to chow down on a Flicky sandwich.

Thanks to Toby for that drawing. He did it for me a few weeks back.

AHHH! Chao are too cute to eat!

Wait, if they aren't made out of chao, then would they be made out of Mobian cows?
I'm still perplexed about this topic. What would a tribe of Anthro. animals really eat; seriously, if you thought about it enough? Maybe it's just one of those things that people aren't meant to know. It's just an improbable conundrum. Or am I just trying too hard?

First off to Exodus666, you're not the #1 KnucklesxJulie-Su fan; I AM. Anyway, that being said, Mobians eat the same things humans do. They're basically human, except for the fact that they have animal characteristics and they're all way short. Of course, some of them may be more prone to vegetarianism, as displayed by Knuckles; showing a little loyalty, I guess.

Knuckles tried to eat Archimedes.

Knuckles only tried to eat Archy because he was desperate for food, and possibly because he evolved from a species that had once eaten ants. Besides, Archy got spit out pretty quick, and it may not have been just because he breathed fire in Knuckles' mouth.

Oooh! You've won this round, Exodus666, but the war goes on! Just wait until I get my molecular transmutation chamber done: I'll turn myself into[/] Knuckles and when I eventually get a girlfriend I'll turn her into Julie-Su!

A brilliant idea my newly found rival, if only I thought of it first. But let us end this feud now, can anyone really measure the love they have for Knuckles and Julie-Su? Let us turn our attention to our true enemy.... Rouge the Bat!

Hmm...I wonder what this thread was originally about, oh yeah, Mobian's food. Well I guess the eat none humanoid animals, but I wonder if some is taboo. Pigs eating bacon, yuck!

Yes, let us end this feud, my newly found rival. Tell you what; let's do as Knuckles and Sonic have done, and relegate our rivalry to a few potshots every once in a while.

Ah yes, how could I have been so foolish! In directing my fury against you, I've forgotten the true enemy that is Rouge! Here's some advice for Archie: get Rouge away from Knuckles! I know I'm not supposed to talk about romantic relationships, but Knux is Julie's in the comics!

...

Gee, we really did get off topic. Anyway, when you really think about it, the only times you really see anyone eating are back in the good old days when Sonic ate chili dogs (man, even that's been ruined). I personally stick with my opinion that Mobians eat just like humans, except not so many animal products.

Gundam0079, whether or not you're joking, I don't think that Mobians are cannibals.

Why not? There are a few animals that eat their own kind after all. I think I read somewhere that if a new hedgehog mother is disturbed, she'll eat her young.

True, Sailor Unicron, but those are non-intelligent animal species. Mobians have all the intelligence of humans (although that doesn't seem to be all that much sometimes) and thus they're too civilized to do anything as barbaric as eating their own kind or young. At least, in the modern storyline they are; maybe there were a few cannibal tribes around when they first evolved, but there don't seem to be any more.

Not as interesting as you might think. Does anyone else remember the SatAM episode Fed Up With Antoine, with its cannibal hyena bikers?

I was wondering if anyone'd use that as evidence of cannibalism.

Yeah, I suppose you're right about that Samanfur; I happen to have that episode on DVD (watched it once, never going to again). Okay, so maybe there are a handful or so of groups of Mobians that eat other Mobians, but that's the only evidence we've seen, so it doesn't look widespread. We haven't really seen much evidence of livestock on Mobius, and to be honest, we really don't even see the characters eat that much. Except for Sonic's favorite-chili dogs-and a handful of other instances, you just don't see the characters eating. But I stand by my previous opinions in saying that I'm pretty sure the Mobian diet is identical to the human one, more or less.

This reminds me of the old 'how does Bunnie Rabbot go the bathroom' thread.

And I think it's safe to assume there ARE non-sentient beasts on mobius still.

A better question is if Sally's theory is right and Mobians are hyper-evolved animals due to a bug of the Xorda gene bombs being used on a planet whose DNA they knew nothing about, or weather it accidently mixed humans' DNA with that of animals (ie, turned humans into furries), this would explain why the Xorda picked up human DNA in the mobians and thus marked them for death by guilt by relation. (The Japanese did it, the punishment for treason was execution of you and your family seven generations removed.)

Well, judging by how Bumblebee does it in the new movie...

Funny comparison SU, but the real answer is: we don't really know. It's like in all those movies/TV shows where they don't show women in the bathroom unless they're taking a shower or at the sink. Presumably, Bunnie probably does go to the bathroom somewhat like Bumblebee did in the new Transformers-with a more ladylike approach, of course.

The presence of unintelligent animals on Mobius has been known for a while, but we just don't know if the Mobians eat those animals.

I'm guessing they are all vegetarians. The chili dogs that sonic eat are probably some sort of soy product. In one issue I saw a box of cereal and Mina eating a salad.

Okay, this is getting a little out of hand. These are civilized beings we're talking about, people; as has been said numerous times, they may all be vegetarians. Of course, I can't see Sonic eating anything like soy, and there's been nothing to suggest that those chili dogs are anything but the real McCoy. If Mobians eat meat, then aside from a handful of cannibal tribes such as featured in SatAM-and that one instance in which Knuckles was desperate and delusional enough to try eating Archy-they probably eat unintelligent livestock just like humans do. Besides, I seriously think that if Mobians ate meat, the whole Devil's Gulag thing would have been totally unneccessary and Mammoth Mogul would now be clogging the arteries of half of New Mobotropolis' population.
