Um, hello...
I used to read the Sonic comics three or four years ago. I have comics #106 - 130 and 146 - 155 and just now picked up Sonic #195. I'm planning on subscribing because Ian Flynn and Tracy Yardley seem to be doing a fine job with the comic. But where is Steven Butler, J. Axer, Spaz, Art Mawhinney and Dawn Best? Where are the short, five-pagers in the back of the book that did such a fine job of developing specific characters on the side?
I also looked at archie's sonic comic blog and realized that Ian Flynn was also writing Sonic X. Goodness! He writes everything! It seems to me like it would be hard for him to pump out quality stories when he has to write every single story for both Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic X. And Yardley needs a break, too! For lack of a better cliche...what is this madness?!
Feh, bring back Penders, Galan, Bollers, Mawhinney, and Butler! Though i must admit Ian is doing the finest job on the comic since 1999....props!
Ian Flynn is doing an awesome job writing and Tracy Yardley is an excellent artist. They still back up stories ever so often and Sonic Universe is coming up. Spaz is still around doing the archive covers.
My favorite writer that I've read is Karl Bollers, but I must admit that I love Ian Flynn already, as well. Plus Yardley's art style seems to fit Flynn's writing style perfectly.
The only thing I question is if they are working themselves to death. It would be nice to see some other writers and artists once in a while, too, if only in the form of back stories.
Two comics is nothing, most DC and Marvel writers and artists have 3 or more books at a time going(Geoff Johns).
Woah! I wonder if they do a good job on them, though?
No matter. As long as Ian and Tracy keep up the hard work, I suppose I won't care too much. I'd still like to get a break from them in the form of back stories, though.
We gonna have a new artist in 198 named Renae De Liz. Oh, btw, if you want, Ian has his own forum you can go to; he even answers questions from fans every month.
Blue 42, everything in my opinion that Geoff Johns has touched in recent years has been GREAT!!!! By the way Im assuming your a HTD fan.
But where is Steven Butler, J. Axer.....
J. Axer is a freelance artist. His time ended with the comic a couple of years ago and has moved on to other projects.
You can see some of his current art at: http://jayaxer.deviantart.com/
The last issue Steven Butler penciled to date was issue #181 in the secondary story. I don't think he's totally retired from Archie yet.

Holy crap! Her art is beautiful, especially this.
Thank you very much for the information and links! I'm excited to see a new artist to give Yardley a break!

Yes, I am a HTD fan. I'm glad someone got the reference.
But I'd no idea who Geoff Johns was until I wiki'd him. Are you saying he is one such fellow who was able to do a lot of projects at once continually without sacrificing quality?

Thanks for the link! I wonder how Axer left Archie...leaving the door open for future work...? Or...is the door slammed shut?
You're welcome and I do hope you check out the Bumbleking forums in more detail.
Well, I doubt Axer is ever going to come back so I'd say the door is slammed shut. I think it was the same for Dawn Best. Her time with Archie ran out too.
De Liz should be spectacular sonic penciler! I can't wait for issue 198!
"Her time with Archie ran out too."
LOL, the way you word it makes it sound like they were working for Jabba the Hutt or something.
I am checking out Bumbleking right now. I'm lovin' it already!

Yeah I liked when Jimmy was the vocalist, but now we have Trenches and HTD is still pretty good. Yeah he was doing Green Lantern, Flash Rougues Revenge, Final Crisis stuff, he was doing Infinite Crisis...he is always busy. But as I said alot of writers and artists work on many projects in most other comic publishers. I dont do any other comics except Sonic anymore though because college is more important, but nothing can stop me from getting Sonic.
I just noticed that Steven Butler is currently one of the main pencilers for the Sonic X comic.
Hopefully he'll make the transition to Sonic Universe too then.
Yeah! I really hope Steven Butler keeps penciling Sonic for a long time!
Steve Butler and Art Mawhinney were the best penicillers! I hope they both take part in the pencil work in Sonic Universe.
