I was a huge Sonic fan as a child, and I own issues 12-63, but my passion died out as I grew older, but for whatever reason, my love has been rekindled, and I REALLY REALLY want to get back into the comic, but I don't know where to start up again. On archie's website you can buy back issues of '99 (66-77), '02 (103-115), and '03(116-128) . Should I invest in any or all of these, or just restart my collection now? Sorry if this has been done many times, but I am DYING to get back into sonic. Thanks.

For the sake of being a completionist, I'd say go and back order all of them. Just don't expect anything too great between #108-#121. The main stories basically sucked and Ron Lim's artwork at that time was even more horrible than it is now.

Welcome to the Mobius Forum, violentmog!

I would say to definitely pick up the '99, and maybe even the '03 back issues...I'd say issues 75 and 125 are pretty big ones that you wouldn't want to miss...ebay is a great place to go if you really want to find old issues...you might have to wait a few weeks, but someone will usually sell big lots of old sonic comics...

The comic section of SonicHQ.org might help a little...and if you don't mind reading someone else's commentary on the comics, I would suggest Dan Drazen's Reviews (found here). Once you go to that site, just change the number (70 was the earliest I could find, to look at the later one, just change 70 to 71 and so on...)

Wow, a fan from way back in issue 12...wow, I didn't know the comic existed until #38...and only really started collecting from issue #66 on...I would say (WARNING!! this is my personal opinion) that the comic is at a low right now. But that is the way things go, it seems to go through an up and down cycle every 50 issues or so...anyways...once again welcome and I hope you enjoy!

How much will I miss out in the gap where there are no back orders available? Say I get all the back orders available and get all the new issues, will everything begin to make sense?

Based on what you've posted, most everything would make sense with 1999, 2002, 2003, and the latest issues. The only twists and turns you'd have missed without 2000 & 2001 are the Sonic Adventure adaptation, the reviving of Queen Alicia, the beginnings of the Sonic/Sally/Mina love triangle (though you'd have the middle & end), the beginning of the Sword of Acorns saga (though you'd have the end), and some Knuckles stuff--but I don't know how interested in that you'd be.

I just ordered '99, '02, and '03. Hopefully the other years will show up sometime... Anyway, thanks for the input guys.

If you want to get them all, then just call up on the phone number on any back-issue ordering page in any issue. The person on the other end just asked me which ones I was missing, and I got them a few weeks later. And they were a few from 2000-2001! By the way, whoever was amazed at meeting someone who collected the comic from #12, read my user name a little more closely.

I picked up at issue #20. I bought every single issue since then, except Sonic in your Face, Super Sonic vs Hyper Knuckles, and Sonic Blast. I wish I had those... =(

Anyway, I REALLY recommend the 2004 set, whenever it comes out... And make sure you pick up issue #155 at your local store, and especially #156 next month. You may even want to get a 10 issue subscription like me! ;)

How many "shameless plugs" did I just say? XD
