Title explains all. I did a similar topic for Sonic and Shadow, and I'm always hearing topics around the net about which version of Sonic people appeal to. So why not pop the question with princess Sally?
Which universe of Princess Sally do you like the best?
I've watched through SatAM many times, but I've read through Archie-Sonic many MORE times. Plus, Archie has lasted quite a bit longer, and I've followed it devotedly. As a result, when I think of the Sonic charecters, I think of the Archie versions.
Therefore, I'd have to go with Archie's Sally. Don't ask me for the pros and cons of the two, though-- I'm so much more familiar with Archie's that I can barely remember what the SatAM version of Sally was like... (I do know I like the way artists such as Spaz, Butler, and Axer draw her, quite a bit-- and of course, that style has evolved into something quite different from the way she was drawn in the show.)
They are both the same to me, it's just that the Archie version has gone through different times, after Robotnik.
I personally prefer SatAM Sally for the simple fact that she was able to be a much more sympathetic, action-oriented, and likeable character without all the royal red tape she's surrounded by in Archie. I'm not a big fan of the royals and all the bowing and scraping they inspire in the other characters.. you can call me anti-authority (no, really you can, because you'd be right! ^_^) but I just don't like that particular facet of the Archieverse.
She was a much deeper and better written character in SatAM IMHO. I am fond of how she's been drawn in the comics as of late .
I prefer the Sat AM Sally, but she looks more cute as a kid.

Hello, ma!
I like Archie sally better sat AM sally seems to bossy
They're both bossy and really have no affinity for that character at all. Other than that I really didn't notice much of a difference back when I read the comics, maybe thats changed.
I don't really like Princess Sally but if I had to choose..I'd almost have to say SatAM Sally. Why? She seemed tougher and some how seemed less... bossy than Archie..at least to me.. at least compared to some of the older comics. I don't like that Archie rendered her almost useless and all emotional.
But on the other hand Archie doesn't have to deal with annoying voices and well... the SatAM voices..ack... I may have liked them when I was little but..ack...
'tso bad about the SatAM voices?
I didn't mind them when I was little..but now.. they disturb me. I prefer japanese voices anyway. I mean these voices...*shudders*
But that's just me.
Japanese voice actors are overrated in my opinion. Everyone says the same thing about them.
I like how shes drawn in the comic these days. lol Um, as far as which presentation of the character I prefer, I'd have to think about for a while. It doesn't help I haven't seen a nice portion of the SATAM episodes for years. I don't think you should hate on here just becasue she is royalty. For some reason I seem to like the princess characters from other series, like say Slayers and Tenchi Muyo. Don't know why though. Posibly coincidence. But Sally doesn't act like a stereotypical princess at all and it not at all dependent on her title.
Archie only because she's gone through more situations in Archie to flesh her out as a character.
I agree with Lord Exor that she's really the same in both versions. The only difference I see between them really is that in Archie Sally is allowed to kick and beat up on robots, which she didn't do in SatAM--as no one other than Sonic, Bunnie, & Dulcy were allowed to do that in SatAM whereas everyone can in Archie (unless it's a super-bot in which case then only certain characters can hurt those bots).
I'd have to say I like the satAM version better. I used to view them about equally, and since "Heart Held Hostage" I'm starting to again, but for a while, I think Archie made her too mcuh of the typical "weak female" character. In my opinion, they did that with Bunnie a bit too. I always like strong female characters (like Lina Inverse ^_^)
I think the major difference between the "two Sally's is that there really ISNT any. SatAM Sally wasnt really fleshed out besides the fact that she was strong willed and wasnt a stereotypical princess and thats it. However, Archie Sonic took that SAME SatAM Sonic and gave her more faults choosing to build on both sides of the coin - the stronger aspect (where she fights more as a part of the team) and her weaker aspects (bowing out to her family and finally feeling the duties that a princess and heir to the kingdom is supposed to have).
By herself of course SatAM Sally is going to feel stronger because she didnt really have the time to be developed and built upon and multilayered as Archie made her out to be - sacrificing a little bit of that super strong willness to make her more vulnerable and I think thats also why people tend to compare the two in posts like these when they really are kind of the same.
I will agree with one person though who said that there was a long period in the comic where she became TOO vulnerable and passive to the point where she was always depressing to read in the scenes she was in. However I would have to say Archie because they kinda took what made her work in SatAM and expanded upon that to show that she wasnt just your "not so typical princess" so to speak. As long as they dont make her all morose and "woe is me I cant do anything fun ever" all the time I dont have any probs. Though I'm tired of the luvvy duvvy stuff too ^^
Although I don't mind the "lovey-dovey stuff" at the moment. It makes a change and after 123-125, it's relevant to the plot.
If it comes to dominate the action too badly, I'll complain, but at least they act like a real couple of lovestruck teenagers in the meanwhile.
As with the people who said that the comic was too gloomy and then complained about ending up with the likes of Meanie In a Bottle: be careful what you wish for, folks.
I think I like both the Sat a.m. and Archie Sally. Lately I have been thinking about why I have not come to hate Sally, and have come to the conclusion that I see enough of the Sally I saw in Sat a.m. in Archie for me not to be so bothered about how she acts in the comic, plus I understand that the situation she is in is somewhat different from Sat a.m. What I believe Archie might want to work on is balancing all the sides of Sally; her strong, vulnerable side, and the "lovey dovey" side; it might help her be better written.
well i kinda view them as the same charcter... really all the comic has done has devolped it more
Well I can't really contribute much to this discussion seeing as SatAM is the Sonic cartoon I saw the least of and I've never read Archie (yet), but personally I like the Archie version better. In SatAM she didn't seem like a strong character too me (That's my opinion though, not a fact so don't flame me for it) just a character who was put there to be Sonic's girl friend. In Archie however we see her character become more developed, having to deal with the Freedom Fighters AND her royal family, I'm suprised the poor girl isn't suffering from depression.
But that's just my view and in truth I don't like Sally very much, so she's not a character I've looked into a lot.
They both are not real...
Dont let my name fool you...
It's not what it means...
...Sally is in a world where no fan can go for a purpose,...
...tho she probably has the whold squad teamed up with her and Sonic is only on Sega now,...
...maybe she'll plan to hijack.
I dont know, nobody does, it's just a guess... just... a... guess...
